Meanwhile, Eli had carefully settled beside Bella on the bed, making sure not to accidentally bump into her. His earlier excitement had not disappeared but he was trying very hard to behave himself now that he had been allowed to sit near his mumma and his new little brother.
Both of them were looking at the baby boy lying beside Bella.
Unlike his little sister, who seemed determined to make everyone in the room follow her personal rules, the baby boy was perfectly content. He lay wrapped in his soft blanket, his tiny eyes moving as he looked at the faces around him without making a fuss.
Eli leaned closer, studying him with the utmost concentration.
For several seconds, he said nothing.
Then his little eyebrows drew together.
"Mumma..."
Bella turned toward him with a tired but affectionate smile. "Yes, sweetheart?"
Eli pointed carefully at the newborn.
"Why is he so small?"
Bella couldn't help smiling at his serious expression.
"Because he's a baby, Eli."
