Chapter 238 - 238 -Drowning pace

*

The hero and Heavenly king of this world, Aster Keliuvinia. A being that transcended species, the only one... Of this world. Do you understand? I evolve too. The only reason humanity has broken out of this full blown assault from external Trace forces, was because someone else got involved.

"... Yggdrasil, the world tree. An envoy that assumes the name of the whole? Why are you here?" (Vinia)

A deity from outside the world's framework, or an offshoot of one. There's no telling the truth of the matter. Because...

" I was born here. Isn't that enough? " (Yggdrasil)

Vinia would say no more, information was her right to keep. Yggdrasil knew that much, she understood she shared this name because Lastia emulated the world tree to birth her. Did her relation with the world tree go beyond a name and a toy like reconstruction? None of that mattered, at least not right now.

She had been holding her great sword for so long, it felt like part of her body. In a single moment, her blade pierced the air three times. The tips approaching Vinia. Ending with a diagonal slash, magic collides with magic, the usual screeching like nails on a chalkboard scream out. Like metal scratching on metal, or a diamond tipped saw working its weight. When her actions finally become visible in reality, their weapons were trussed against one another.

Moving beyond visible speed had become secondary to their fight, their fighting had forced each other to grow at a tremendous rate that they weren't even sure if they were still the same species as they were before the fight. Parry, they swing their weapons outwards and escape the deadlock. The ground between them receives a horizontal cleaving, even if they were floating at an unfathomable altitude in the air. Their figures blur into the air before focusing, their weapons locked in mortal combat.

Yggdrasil grits her teeth and throws her whole body, her foot swings at the opponent. Vinia swings her elbow, smashing into the sole. Yggdrasil spins her entire body outwards, dishing a spinning wheel slash with her great sword. Before her blade could reach, Vinia throws her own kick and slammed it into Yggdrasil's head mid spin. Her great sword was facing the other side, and Vinia managed to hit a precision kick that disrupted it. With a single thrust, she skewers Yggdrasil's body.

The tip slides into her skull like butter, profuse volumes of blood spill out without restrain. Yggdrasil can tether her existence to this world without her soul dissipating into the cycle of reincarnation, like anyone else normally would, only because she has a vessel. She is a spirit-like being but still required a mortal vessel like any other. Then the answer to defeat her was simple, one can roughly treat her as an S or SS grade threat, but once her body is completely vaporised she'll die. Other SS grade beings might be able to persist without a body, but not her.

"It's over. Oblivion Magia." (Vinia)

To finish her off, she opens her arcane realm inside her opponent, with her katana skewer as the starting point. They're climbing towards SS grade, but these two weren't truly deities. Deities didn't have. A limit to the speed at which they grew, after all they are infinite in the expanse of their own being, and growing to them was more like unleashing power that they already had. These two were gaining what they never had and breaking new records of their own. In other words, they are S grade without a doubt.

At such a level, decapitations aren't lethal and a sliver of skin can regenerate an entire body. So within the body where there is no magic resistance, her Oblivion Magia erased her opponent.

"... Oblivion... Magia!!" (Yggdrasil)

She has no cards left other than what she could glean and pry from her enemy's cold hands. A last ditch effort at wit's end, mirroring. The expansion of her enemy's realm stops and she does not disintegrate. Her body is engulfed by microscopic black blades, and then consumed into nothing. All that survived was a single eyeball. It was surrounded by warm dark red light, keeping it safe while expanding its own influence.

"... Truly... Fearsome." (Vinia)

The light of magic concentrates, growing more vigorous and violent. In a few moments, her body regenerated and her combat dress reformed. Relentless, unending. The world's enemy will not stop short of utter annihilation.

"There is no way Eterna could die, even if you kill her vessel. That is just that, her vessel. She will persist regardless, she is the world just as the world is her. For this moment without a will to command the world, a husk without the soul, I'll take advantage of your status as traitor.

Face the charges, so demands the forgotten deity of the origin era. Lost piety, Kaori. " (Vinia)

Vinia steps away, bits and pieces of her body gradually turned transparent and dissolve into thin air, until nothing was left but a world of white. Vinia didn't walk away. Yggdrasil was brought here, outside earth. Was this where Traces originated from? Without the same eyes or brain, she's unable to comprehend it in the same way they do. She can only see white here, but perhaps they see much more. A lavish cityscape, a soft azure expanse. Technology beyond one's dreams... Whatever the case, they wouldn't risk wrecking their own home by bringing a belligerent party there.

"... This is not the land outside, more like inbetween." (?)

A bodyless voice, it reminds Yggdrasil of herself. For as long as she relied on a vessel to anchor her existence in reality, she won't be sent to heaven, at the same time she cannot become heaven. Apotheosis is impossible in this state. On the other hand, Vinia sent her here. Then what's happening on the other side? Is Vinia terrorising humanity?

Has the earth collapsed and people went extinct? What was her goal in the first place? After she kills Lastia and Yggdrasil, then what? She understood that their rivalry was the first thing on Vinia's mind, the highest priority was Vinia's grudge. Arin's body died and it didn't stop the fight. Any longer than a day, and Yggdrasil might have lost. The vessel adapted to high magic energy concentration, after all Yggdrasil had mastered at controlling the energy and prevented it from harming herself.

What Yggdrasil did was violating the laws of the arcane, the law of magical girls. Perhaps, that's why Vinia said she was the enemy of the world. Once Eterna woke up from the dead, Yggdrasil would have been crushed by the world itself. In a sense, sending her here had saved her. Just what was Vinia's goal? Or was it...

"You're an enemy aren't you?" (Yggdrasil)

Her finger shivers under her blackish purple gloves, sticking close to her clothed tummy under her combat dress. Her breathe freezes as she looks on ahead.

"... Brave, aren't we? That's right, I've been pulled from the river of time to punish a little traitor." (?)
