Two days later, just as Wayne was directing the assault team to cross the enemy's outermost defenses, a courier suddenly rushed up to report: "General, Mayor Wilson of Natchez has an extremely urgent matter and needs to see you at once."
Wayne couldn't help but frown.
Natchez was once Fort Rosalie during the French colonial period in Louisiana, and it is the largest American settlement along the lower Mississippi River.
