The portal opened and to my surprise what left it wasn't a strange monster at all but a Seraph of some sort. Even a blind man could see that this was no ordinary Seraph though. It's body was larger and far more intricately designed than any Seraph I had ever seen. It was mostly a bright shiny metallic silver with many purple swirling lines of energy pulsing across it and had four arms. It's head was very human in shape but with several twisted spikes coming off it's top like some statue esque depiction of light coming off of it.-
Oddly the Seraph didn't immediately turn hostile like I expected from a vault monster but looked around apathetically as though unconcerned with me who had released it from the vault. I didn't drop my guard though as I watched the thing carefully. Thanks to this I reacted the moment it carelessly waved one of it's hands in my direction sending a supersonic spike of energy at me. I swung my hand in front of my body in that instant and backhanded the projectile away finally getting a reaction from the thing.-
"That was very rude of you, apologize." I said with fake sternness as I fought to keep the grin off my face.
The bots own face went through as series of expressions in a short period of time that were beyond amusing to see. Shock, confusion, realization and finally anger as it's no doubt extensive language translators let it understand exactly what I said. It held out it's long arms and from the still open vault portal four weapons came hurtling before landing neatly in it's out held palms. An Eridian gun of sorts that I immediately called dibs on in my head, a plasma sword, a long metal spear with a red glowing blade head and an honest to gods shield.-
Without hesitation the thing raised the gun and pulled the trigger while pointing at me. A pillar of pure electrical plasma burned through the air towards me. I merely grinned at that and held out my right palm towards it. The pillar struck my palm and like light meeting a blackhole was sucked in harmlessly. Just to really fuck with the thing I patted my belly while burping. Credit where it's due the thing only briefly twitched up near it's eyes from the mockery but moved on to trying to stab and slash me with it's melee weapons and straight up smashing me with the shield.-
The fact all of this did absolutely nothing was not lost on the bot as it finally seemed to understand how hopeless it's situation was. I'd like to say it put up a good fight but I'd be fucking lying. It was a one sided curb stomp once I actually started to fight back. Naturally I took my time finding out how to shut the thing down without destroying it irreparably as I VERY much wanted to reprogram it to serve me.-
Don't get me wrong Atlas was my magnum opus and in my opinion surpassed this bot in every way that mattered but this thing was built for dominance. It was obvious at a glance what the Eridians were trying to accomplish when they made it. This thing was the perfect soldier. Attack at all ranges, defense, high tactical adaptability and even a degree of self awareness. That last one was clearly where the problem came in as well. The thing was smart and had absolutely no regard for life.-
The Eridians who made it probably found out the hard way that this thing couldn't be left around or it'd go on a slaughter spree the likes of which would leave the universe reeling. Because it was a thinking being however they didn't want to kill it and so sealed it in this vault. In my opinion the alien fuckers were hypocrites since theoretical eternal imprisonment was WAY crueler than just ending the monster they made. Still this act benefited me in the end so I was quite satisfied with it. Once I figured out where the central processing unit for the bot was I disabled it before stashing away the limp form for further study.-
That naturally just left my "prize" from the vault itself to claim. I walked into the glowing purple portal and to the pocket space that held the vaults contents. It was a dark place with only the orange light from the Eridian statues illuminating it. Like usual there was a set of chests at the very back and a single large statue holding the "prize" in the center. This time the prize itself was a small cube no bigger than a basketball and looked similar to an Eridian data module.-

I was VERY fucking eager to claim this prize and rushed over without hesitation. I didn't make the mistake I did with the previous Eridian data module though and carefully phase locked the cube before storing it in my inventory without touching it. As nice as the idea of having that races entire knowledge pool of the universes mapping stuffed in my head I really would prefer to put it on a computer instead.-
Still with the cube in hand I popped the chests and grabbed the guns that showed up before heading out the portal only to freeze at what I found there. One fucking Hyperion goon prying the vault key out of the hole it was in. The fact the vault portal closed the moment they succeeded left me seeing red, or maybe that was the blood in my eyes from ripping the man in half? It was hard to tell with the sheer overwhelming wrath I felt at the mere idea of almost getting trapped in a vault.
