On the way to Paul, Leah led the two companions she rescued across the battlefield.
(On your right!) Leah yelled, tackling a vampire. (Finish it quick; more are coming.)
The two timber wolves worked together to end the fallen vampire and swiftly rejoined Leah, who showed no signs of slowing down.
When a pair of vampires showed up in front, Leah threw her body sideways, knocking them both over. Rolling through them to her feet, she quickly snapped her jaws back at the nearest one, taking its head as the other two wolves arrived to take the other.
(Good job, let's...) She was interrupted by a powerful blow, sending her tumbling away.
(Leah!) they cried as the vampire responsible turned his attention towards them.
(Tch, another vampire gifted with strength, be careful,) warned Leah as the two met his charge.
Staggering back to her feet, she braced for another group of vampires heading her way. At least they weren't swarming like the Newborns did. It might have made things harder given their better training, though it seemed to have failed them when facing giant wolves.
Ducking one's punch, she was amused at the brief surprise on its face. They could never get over how a massive wolf could suddenly duck one of their blows. Upon lowering her head and crouching her body, she sprang forward, clamping her jaws onto its side, then pivoted and flung it into another.
Unable to finish them as two more arrived, she snapped at one causing it to flinch back, then bit the other's foot off as it kicked at her. Knowing it was time to leave as more started surrounding her.
Dodging past them and narrowly avoiding their outstretched hands, she took off as a couple of vamps ate dirt trying to tackle her.
(Are you guys doing okay? I've lost sight of you,) said Leah, looking around while avoiding her pursuers.
(For now,) one of them grunted as the gifted vamp punched a hole in his side, but had to retreat as his companion came in at it from the side, forcing it back.
An unexpected vampire dashed out in front of Leah, ready to take her down, when she lowered her head and flipped it over, using her hind legs to kick it back into the others behind her, toppling them over.
(At least it doesn't want the others to help it,) said the other as the two continued their fight alone with it.
(Ah, I see you now. I'll be right there,) said Leah, taking a turn. (Get ready.)
(Now!) she yelled, and the two moved as one to tackle the vampire, trapping it beneath their bodies.
"What's the point of this? Your teeth can't get me from there, nor can you hold me long," said the vamp as the two lay on top of him, claws digging into the ground to hold him still as he called upon all his strength to lift them off slowly.
"David! Watch out!" cried one of his fellow vamps whom he forced to watch during his exchange with the two wolves.
Moving his eyes up, he could just make out the upside-down growing form of the light gray-furred wolf coming back at him. He was confident in fighting two alone, but a third was a bit much.
"Damn useless fucks," he cursed for the last time as his vision was soon filled with the beast's many teeth.
The two wolves then moved to guard Leah's back as the other vampires came in.
In a savage exchange of snarling bites and hissing hits, the three managed to escape and return to their mission of finding Paul.
.
Paul wasn't having a good day. First, he had to leave his girlfriend, who was at odds with his friends, to fight an ungodly number of vampires. Then said Vampires killed the reason for their odds, making it almost certain that not only would fighting be hard and terrible, but when he returned home, it would be just as bad.
As the initial clash began, he couldn't even begin to focus, going through the motions of helping those he could. It wasn't until later, when the first pack members went down, that he started to wake up.
It was these bastards that started all this, that made everything so god damn hard and complicated. With this thought driving his mind, he went to work taking out more and more, and still more. Then the gifted came, and he knew he had to act.
Running frantically around the battlefield, he pushed himself further than he'd ever had before, going from one pair to another, helping as best he could, and then this bastard showed up.
Dodging another furious strike from the Porcupine vamp, he looked for a way to get at the fucker without getting stuck, alongside the newbie he saved, who was still a bit traumatized at his friend's demise, his corpse still dangling from its back.
Taking Paul's advice, the newbie channeled his anger to fight back and was hanging in there, lashing out at vampires that tried to ambush them while Paul dealt with the porcupine, knowing he wasn't ready to face it.
Paul, running around the prickly fuck knew what he had to do first, and with a fake run towards the vamp, he came to an abrupt stop as it turned its back and took hold of the fallen wolf's corpse, pulling it free.
(You got him!) cried the newbie at seeing his friend's body safely recovered.
(Yeah, yeah, don't let your guard down, nothing's over yet,) Paul said, brushing away his gratitude.
True to his words, each had to dodge another attack as the newbie scrambled to avoid another vamp, and the Porcupine resumed his efforts to stick him.
He almost snorted when a one-armed vamp showed up to the party, but quickly lost his amusement when he realized who it was. He charged and went for the trade, letting it land a solid blow so that he could finish it, but was suddenly sent flying.
(Fuck me, of course, he's gifted, why fucking not, why not send them all, I can take it!) he growled as he eyed the two wearingly.
(Stop your whining, we're here to save you,) said Leah amusedly, leading her group into battle.
(Save me? You brought more of them!) Paul nearly shouted as the ones chasing also arrived.
(Quit grumbling. Half of them broke off to fight Seth and the others. Seems his group is doing a good job. It's time we stepped up,) said Leah.
(Any bright ideas?) asked Paul, avoiding the Porcupine, who was now acting like he had a grudge against him for some reason.
(Yeah, you keep spike boy here busy. These two will take the strength-based one. He only has one arm, so you guys should kill him fast, while I help your partner keep the surrounding vamps off us, and then we'll all deal with this asshole together,) said Leah confidently.
(I want that one-armed vamp dead; he's the one that killed Jake,) said Paul, amping them up.
(We're on it,) said one of the wolves determinedly, and they took off, launching their attack, putting pressure on the one-armed vamp, and forcing it to keep retreating through their coordinated moves.
(Don't follow him too far. If he retreats far enough, let him go. We can just keep an eye on him,) said Leah, carefully watching them.
Leah and the newbie worked hard keeping the rest at bay, each taking numerous wounds as the battle intensified.
Paul ran around baiting the porcupine as he attacked other vamps until everyone was ready.
(He isn't leaving, but he isn't attacking,) said one of the wolves who chased the one-armed vamp.
(Okay, we'll ignore him for now. On my signal, two of us will have to grab his arms and keep him stretched out while a third goes for the head, while the other two will keep the rest off us, and keep an eye on that one-armed gifted,) said Leah as she backpedaled a strike and launched one of her own at a vamp.
(You and I will get its arms while the newbie here takes his revenge. Are you ready for this newbie?) asked Paul.
The newbie perked up. (Absolutely, I am!)
(Alright, on my signal, get ready. Let's clear a bit more away from us, and lead him to the center Paul,) said Leah.
When everything was about as good as could be, Leah yelled, (Now!)
She went in first, since its sight was set on Paul, making it easy to slip around and bite the right arm. And when it turned to strike her, Paul was there to bite the left. Then they pulled it together, stretching it out, leaving its head vulnerable.
The newbie didn't waste any time, angrily charging the thing that took his friend's life and finished it.
(Alright Newbie! Good job!) Paul congratulated him, smirking inwardly at his wagging tail, still holding the head between his jaws like an excited dog showing off.
(Now let's hunt down that one-armed bastard!) said Paul.
