"Chuchu is actually following my instructions! Is this what a Pokémon battle feels like?"
Watching her Pikachu attack, Yellow experienced a very peculiar feeling in her heart. She was still afraid of Pokémon getting hurt, but at the same time she felt excited about having the courage to give commands to her partner.
Chatter chatter!!
Rattata observed the arc of electricity coming toward it, and suddenly a silver flash enveloped its body as it dashed forward at high speed.
Boom!!
Thunder Shock struck the ground, but failed to hit Rattata. The purple Pokémon rushed toward Yellow's Chuchu at tremendous speed. Since Chuchu had just launched her attack and hadn't recovered yet, she was struck directly by Rattata.
Pika chu~~~~
Chuchu was sent flying by the force of Rattata's Quick Attack, her body tumbling backward uncontrollably and rolling across the ground several times.
"Chuchu!!"
Seeing this scene, Yellow's face immediately filled with worry. Watching Chuchu take the hit made her heart ache. She instinctively thought about saying something—maybe they should just give up!
"I knew it... I still can't do this..." Yellow began doubting her own abilities and was ready to back down right from the start.
"No! It's not over yet! Chuchu hasn't given up! As a Trainer, you can't give up before your Pokémon does! Otherwise, how can you honor their efforts?"
Ash sensed Yellow's hesitation and immediately spoke up, interrupting her self-defeating thoughts.
Yellow was momentarily stunned by his words, then looked forward again. She saw Chuchu, who had fallen to the ground, slowly pushing herself back up to stand. The determination in her eyes hadn't diminished at all.
Pika chu!!
Small sparks of electricity crackled on Chuchu's cheeks as she stared defiantly at Rattata.
"Chuchu!!" Yellow gazed at the scene in amazement. Just as Ash had said, Chuchu hadn't given up yet—so how could she give up first?
Chatter chatter!!!
At that moment, Rattata launched another offensive. Quick Attack activated once more as it rushed toward Yellow's Chuchu at lightning speed. Yellow felt somewhat overwhelmed when she saw this.
"Pikachu don't only know Electric-type moves! Think about what move you need to use when dodging attacks!"
Ash observed Yellow's confused expression and continued offering guidance. After hearing Ash's words, Yellow's face changed slightly as her mind raced.
"Chuchu! Use Agility!!"
Actually, she had done some studying before her journey, but had never put it into practice. She quickly understood what to do after Ash's reminder.
Chuchu acted immediately upon hearing Yellow's command, her body darting back and forth rapidly. With the speed boost from Agility, Rattata's Quick Attack missed its target as the momentum carried it past Chuchu's previous position.
"Your opponent's vulnerability is the perfect opportunity to counterattack. Use Pikachu's speed with a move that can seize the moment!" Ash saw this and continued his coaching.
"Speed?" Yellow pondered this, then her eyes unconsciously focused on Rattata.
"That's right! Use Quick Attack!!"
Yellow called out immediately after figuring it out. Chuchu stopped her evasive movements, then charged from behind Rattata, silver light gleaming around her.
Boom!!!
Seizing the perfect opportunity, with the acceleration from Quick Attack, Rattata failed to react and was knocked away by Chuchu's strike. This time it was Rattata's turn to go flying.
"When you find an opening, launch an attack that can decide the battle!"
"Chuchu, use Thunder Shock!!" At this moment, Yellow listened to Ash's words and reacted instinctively.
As Rattata was knocked back, Chuchu immediately unleashed Thunder Shock. This time Rattata couldn't avoid it and was struck directly by the electrical attack.
Chatter chatter!!!
Rattata's eyes bulged as it was engulfed in the electric current, letting out a pained cry. After a moment, the electricity dissipated and Rattata lay on the ground, its body slightly singed and breathing heavily.
"Now! Throw the Poké Ball!"
Seeing this, Ash spoke up at the crucial moment. Following Ash's instruction, Yellow fumbled slightly as she pulled out a Poké Ball, then aimed at Rattata and threw it.
Boom!!!
The Poké Ball expanded in midair and opened with a flash of light, then Rattata was drawn inside. The Poké Ball fell to the ground, glowing and beginning to shake.
Yellow watched this scene with bated breath, unconsciously clenching her fists. This was her first time trying to catch a Pokémon, so she felt extremely nervous. She knew that capture attempts didn't always succeed, and she worried about failing on her first try.
Ash had coached her so patiently throughout the battle, and she didn't want to disappoint him.
"Don't be nervous. Even if it fails, you can always try again."
Ash spoke calmly and reassuringly. Yellow relaxed slightly after hearing his words, and the anxiety in her heart began to fade.
Click!!!
Suddenly, the light on the Poké Ball disappeared and it made a pleasant chiming sound. Yellow froze, then stared at the now-still Poké Ball on the ground in front of her.
It wasn't moving anymore, and Rattata hadn't broken free. Yellow could hardly believe what she was seeing, and spoke with a slightly trembling voice.
"Did I... did I really succeed?"
"Yes! You succeeded! Congratulations, Yellow!"
Ash smiled warmly. In fact, if he hadn't experienced all his own adventures, he might have reacted the same way when catching his first Pokémon.
"We did it! Chuchu, we actually succeeded!"
Yellow excitedly ran forward and scooped up Chuchu, who had just finished battling. She lifted her partner high above her head with a radiant smile on her face.
Pika chu!!
Chuchu looked equally delighted, celebrating their first successful capture together.
"Congratulations, Yellow!"
Brock and Misty also stepped forward to congratulate Yellow on successfully catching her first Pokémon.
"Thank you so much! And especially you, Ash! Without your help, I definitely couldn't have done it." Yellow set Chuchu down and held her close, speaking with genuine emotion.
"No, this is something every Trainer experiences eventually. Even without me, you would have managed it on your own someday."
Ash shook his head modestly. He had only intended to help build her confidence, and it seemed to have worked perfectly.
"Even so, if it weren't for you, Ash, I wouldn't have had the courage to take this step!"
