Through the day the run was thoroughly calm. When you are tense and on guard there will be no attack. That is the general expectation, and the tendency. Today was a day that stayed that way. They will not come attacking in daylight, I thought, and still went on holding the thought of if. That tension was a world apart from the easy road until yesterday. At rest times no one let their guard down, and most faces were stiff.
