In a two-story house, inside the dim bedroom, a young man lay in bed thinking.
"Where should I go for an affinity test?"
The room was dim because he couldn't open the light as it needed magical energy to turn it on.
"What a useless thing! When I learn to create things, The first thing I'm going to make is a voice-activated light bulb" he grumbled as he shifted sideways to sleep.
...
As Chen HaoYu went to sleep, Chen Liying went inside a study where Chen Zhongwei is working on some paperworks. Chen Liying is the mother and Chen Zhongwei is the father of Chen HaoYu.
"Dear, I feel like Ah Yu seems to be absent-minded today. Do you think something happen to him?" Chen Liying said as she closed the door and brought the tea she was holding to Chen Zhongwei.
Receiving the tea, Chen Zhongwei said, "Maybe it's just that he can't find a job that doesn't need magical energy."
Sighing, the mother sat down, "If it didn't happen to him then maybe he could've still enjoy everything."
"It already happened, there's nothing we can do about it even the healers we have invited are helpless. What can we do except for giving in and letting him do what he wants?"
Chen Zhongwei continued, "Don't stress about it too much. We should just help in whatever he wants to do, okay?"
"Okay..."
~~~Next Day~~~
After Chen HaoYu finished his job at the library, still standing for 4 hours, he went home to ask his mother of this world about where to do an affinity test. He had already told them about his job.
Since he didn't know where to go and asking strangers would seem weird, considering most people undergo an affinity test at the age of 7, not 20. He decided to familiarize himself with this family since he's going to be living in this world anyway and they are also kind and supportive.
Entering the house, he greeted his mom who was taking the laundry out the backyard, "I'm home mom!"
"Oh your back! How's work?"
"Good! But my legs are sore hehe!" Chen HaoYu said while helping his mom.
"Why are your legs sore? Did you have to carry many book around all day?"
"No, no, it's just that I can't sit for some reason and it's also regarding that, that I have something to ask" he smiled.
"What is it then?" Finished putting the laundry out, she turned to look at him.
"Well... I want to do... A magic affinity test."
Not receiving a response, he glanced at his mother and noticing the troubled expression on her face made him contemplate on certain matters.
Did something happen to this guy? What is she troubled with? I think I should ask more about what happened.
"Mom?"
"Ah! Um, well, why do you need to do the test?" Putting away her troubled expression, she asked.
Making an excuse, he said, "Well I... I forgot what is my magic energy and so I wanted to do the test again!"
"Ah Yu... You... Don't remember what happened?" His mother asked tentatively.
I knew it! Something must've happened!
"Uh, yeah I don't know why but I don't remember anything." Scratching his head.
"Alright then I'll tell you about it. Let's go inside."
"Okay!" He said as they entered the house and sat on the couch in the living room.
Then his mother began explaining to him about what happened.
There was a magical exhibition at his sister's school, Chen HaoYu went to see his sister and participated in some of the schools program. During on one of the program he participated, eagerly wanting to show off his big brother side and win the reward his sister wanted, he demonstrated beyond his limits on hitting the targets. However, the program next door had a malfunction on one of the magical equipment then like dominoes the other devices also exploded. Chen HaoYu and his sister is just next door and was the second to bear the brunt, in order to protect his sister, he hug her and use his back to absorb the damage. Even though he created some magic defense in a short time but due to the tumultuous chaotic energy and the collapse of the ceiling, it wasn't able to hold on and broke causing him to take the damage. The damage he took was not light and when couldn't hold on from fainting, he used every last bit of his strength to create the strongest shield he could make but because of insufficient energy he could only cover his sister before fainting. This had also cause a strain to his already worn out body which impacted his magic core to break, leaking out his cultivation.
It has already been a month since the event, his father and mother had consulted many healers to see if his magic core can be recovered but all in vain. Thus, they decided to help him and support him in whatever he wants to do as long as it's not evil so that he won't be depressed.
"Do you really not remmember what happened?" Thinking that he may have gotten amensia, she was worried that there may have some unfounded injuries that were bypassed.
"Yeah but everything is fine! Don't worry much mom?" he said to relieve his mother's worries.
Although he was shocked to find such incident, he has at least gotten to know that this guy was someone who loves his family more than himself.
Even though he knows that his magic core broke and all of his cultivation vanished, he s till wanted to do the test as he was hoping that since he was transmigrated here then it might be possible that his magic core could magically be repaired even if there's only a slim possibility.
"Mom, I know that I don't have any cultivation anymore but I still wanted to do the test. You know maybe a miracle would happen? Haha!" He asked while laughing to ease the tension.
"Fine, there's no harm anyway in checking!" his mom smiled believing his child about the miracle and she also hoped too that there might be miracle.
"We have the magic sphere used for the affinity test, I'll get them in the storage room." she continued then stood up to go to the storage room.
Curious to why they have that, he asked, "Why do we have that? Do we do the test on our own?"
In the storage room, his mother's voice could be heard, "Well we are not that poor so we were able to buy it and since your father and I know how it works, we were the one who did the test for the two of you!"
"But... don't the government usually do these as they need for their database?"
"Silly child, what does one's affinity with magic had to do with the government? There are even people who have different affinities that are cultivating or using their oppposite magic energy!" Coming out of the storage room, she could be seen holding a glass sphere.
Looking at the similar glass sphere in her mothers hand with the glass sphere on his bedside table, he said, "Mom, I also have a glass sphere in my bedside table!"
"Hahaha, that glass sphere on your bedside has only one function and it's used for lighting only!"
"Then why was it made ike that? People could mistake it for doing the test!"
"You know there are a lot of imitators and well... your father though that it was the magic sphere for testing the affinity so he got scammed!" his mother laughed loudly.
Looking at his mother who laughed at her own husband instead of pitying him, he didn't know what to say.
After laughing for a while, she sat down and said, "Anyway, come one put your hand on top of this glass ball."
"Okay!" Chen HaoYu replied as he put his hands on top of it.
His mother hovered her hands beside the glass ball then a swirling deep blue energy seeps out of her hands enveloping the glass sphere and his hands.
A moment later, the clear energy swirling inside the glass sphere remained the same.
Seeing no movement of color change, his mother sighed and consoled Chen HaoYu, "Don't worry about it Ah Yu, I'm sure that this is just temporary and it might be a blessing in disguise!"
"It's fine mom! I'm not sad about it, I'm just checking it anyway!" He smiled.
Chen HaoYu didn't get sad about it because he believed that he can fix his magic core especially now that it's him who's here. He promised himself or rather to this owner's body to not only take care of himself and fix the magic core but he will also treat this family like his own.
He didn't have any memories or knowledge about this world but no trouble will stop him from living his second life however he wants!
