"All units!" Prisma roared through the smoke. "INSIDE!!"
With the two giant keeping their position close to Prisma, The three of them moved as a single, terrifying wall of muscle and steel, advancing through already broken remains thick metal gate..
And me? I was left far behind,
It was very hard to moved with the bullets hosted inside your body. Every small move you made counted as tortured. The pain spreading all through your body. and makes your head spinning due to the pain.
Moving with two bullets buried in my flesh was pure torture. Every twitch of my muscles sent a wave of agony straight to brain, making my vision hazy and blur.
Blood was already pouring down my left arm, soaking through the sleeve and dripping down my palm already. And the shoulder? I could feel the hot, sticky fluid pooling against my collarbone..
Just damn it. I hope I don't lose conciousness. or else I could be considered as dead.
Slowly I drag myself forward with the shade as a cover untill I reach the position of the squad.
And from behind I could tell. the four people keeping on standby all this time were awakeners. They specialized in close quarter combat. With each blade on their arms. It was easy to guess.
And one of them stood out—a massive brute matching Prisma's impossible height. Another muscle-trait freak.
Prisma didn't care. She charged headfirst into the four of them, raising her warhammer before launching herself into a massive, airborne leap.
BOOM!
The impact vibrated violently through the surrounding buildings. Crazy. Just How much of momentum that could create a crater on the thick concrete. My breath stopped. Just How much strength was she holding back when she threw me a punch earlier? If she had actually wanted me dead, she could have split me into two. For real..
Just as I watch how Prisma blow landing perfectly. The enemies already seperated and not taking the full brunt. Ofcourse, Who is considered insane enough to contest the strenght with a giant? while avoiding it with minimum effort was so easy?
after the smoke and debris subsided, all I could see was Prisma getting pinned to a standstill by another giant.
Fuck my head, of course it was another giant? shit. did all of these giant devoid of any logic?
The other three directly plunge closer to the other two giants. This is the contest of might. Which awakened is the winner between the trait. The muscle or the reaction?
The watermelon head, with his shield keep blocking the relentless sword combinations of the enemies. While the other one swinging his hammer to the enemies.
But something is wrong. Every single swing hit empty air. The enemies avoided the heavy metal with terrifying ease. Worse, they were reacting to the trajectory even before his swing form developed fully.
Just how? How? Was the myth about sensory reaction traits real? Could they actually see a glimpse into the future? Now way.. right?
"Hey you newbe, We can't get anymore careless. That is just the basic standard on how the awaken fight. Now, I need you to pinpoint those four shooters from the left wall earlier. We lost line of sight the moment the gate blew!"
I wanted to tell him to go to hell. I wanted to tell him I was bleeding out on the concrete floor. But reality didn't give a damn about my feelings. If our squad collapsed, I was dead anyway.. Just fuck. He didn't even look at me while asking me to do the job.
Nevertheless. Wevelenght detection.
I activated my ability. I could detect all the surrounding immediately. To the far right, Nina and Joel were completely locked in close-quarters combat with their targets.
They weren't using their rifles anymore—at a close range range, trying to aim a gun against a sensory-trait user was suicide..
I never thought the scene I basically watched on my phone would actually happening in reality. But why don't they using their rifle? isn't it easy to just shoot them all?
I don't know, just leave it with the expert. I'm not one of them.
And I've been scanning all the time, but.. Why I can't find the four of them? where the hell are they? I changed my stategy. Instead of waiting for for their respective brainwave to reach my detection, I directly use my visualize detection.
I let my mind a drift. closing my eyes. and focusing on visualize all the building layout. With this, even the vibration on the air, even with animal moving. All of the wave signal entering my mind.
Drip..Drip.
I felt the blood flow down my nostril. The sheer volume of signal data was overloading my brain, flooding my consciousness with animal movements, structural frequencies, random debris movement, and even the battle occurance right now.
I can't put my finger on it. I need to be more specific. Eleminate the wave which is not related.
Everyone must be tensed. Their brainwave keep pinging high beta frequency. I should have detected that. It was like they were masked by a Faraday net—their brainwaves weren't leaking into the air.
Just what to do..
I keep increasing my focus. Im so deep already. even the blood already flooding and flowing down my chin. Fuckk. Im dead before i could find them. how? just how to find them.. wait.
They must be approaching us.They have to be moving. That's it!! They moved! with that realization, I focus my ability to the maximum i could muster.
Feel the weak frequency around the air. Even if they're masked, moving through space displaces matter. Feel the friction in the air.. Focuss.. sharp.
Ping..! The frequency snapped.
"BEHIND US!!" I screamed at the top of my lungs.
But I was a second too late.
BANG! BANG!.... BANG!
Muzzle flashes erupted from the shadows of the wall, just ten meters behind our rear. My instinct took over. I jump horizontally side way to prevent the bullets. but to be expected, one of the so many bullets they fired, One of them hit my foot. my right foot.
Three bullets now.
I choked back the groan of agony, burying my face into the dirt concrete. There was no luxury to scream.
The three squad members behind the took the brunt of the ambush, bullets slamming into their armor and muscle. It didn't stop them. but we face a pincer now with the enemy up fornt and the back surrounded by enemies.
Definately in a disadvantage position.
The three of my squad immediately facing back towards the new enemies. Now i'm in awkwad position. in the middle of them at that. Shit..
With arm, shoulder, and foot hosted a bullet each. Just how should I prevent my self to seeing a god in the after life tonight? Not to mention the blood loss I suffer all this time. All the bullets I hosted, they were bleeding continuously. And the nosebleed? Shitt..
I wiped the blood on my nose down to my chin with my sleeve. All basically covered with blood now. The unbalance due to bloodloss slowly appearing. My views not as sharp as before. I could see they moving as double now. fuck.
"You three! Change into close combat. Don't let the rats from behind wreck havoc. We can't lose our position due to their pincher attack. Now GO!! Prisma shouted while trading blows with the enemy's giant.
"Roger!"
The three members ditched their long rifles, drawing heavy tactical machetes from their leg pouches as they charged into the ambushers. Three against four. They were outnumbered.
I have to do something.
With a position already reveal. I could see four of them covered them selves with a cloak. But I could't think of anything right now. A second slip, my head rolled.
I take my Glock with my right hand. and aim as steady as possible. With a trembling hand. I shoot one that closer to mine.
BANG! BANG!
Avoided. I knew it. The distance was so far. more than ten meters. It was easy for Reaction trait awakener to avoid it. Nevertheless, fifteen more bullets in the magazine.
BANG! BANG!..
Another missed.. Shit..
I look at them. At least i could take one of them to focus on me and let the three of them to focus on one each.
As my expected, Trained military were different, Those four couldn't handle the systematic assault by the three of them.
My ability never lie. Their high-beta waves were fluctuating intensely, sparking with the unmistakable frequency of panic and high focus over time. We were winning.
The three members of our squad were systematically tearing through them, their machetes flashing in the dark as they carved deep, bloody slash through the enemy's flesh.
We might win this. slowly the battle shift to our favour. The sharp wounds were piling up. The pressure on my chest suddenly eased, replaced by a massive sense of relief.
It's over, I thought, my trembling hand lowering the Glock just an inch. We actually pulled it off. I survived.
For the first time tonight, I thought everything was finally under control. But..
That split second of hope was my mistake.
When I forced my eyes open, the illusion shattered. Through the haze, the shooter I had shot earlier was staring directly at me.
He was bleeding, while lifting his handgun while trembling. My heart stop beating for a second. He wants to take me with him.
BANG!
A bullet pierced into my right thigh.
BANG! BANG!
One grazed the right side of my stomach. One pierced the left thigh.
I collapsed to my knees, the gun nearly slipping from my fingers. I couldn't breathe. The air wouldn't fill my lungs. Hurt... it was hurt so bad.
Without me knowing. My bladder gave way, warm fluid soaking through my trousers. The intense pain was so hurt, can't even hold my pee anymore. This was it. This was the end of my life
I keep looking at the one who shoot me. Look at him grinning. He tossed his empty handgun aside, drawing a short blade as he broke into a sprint to finish me off.
With the pain keeps ringing, the death of me just a second closer. everything seems slow.
Eight meters.. seven... six... five... four..
I kept my eyes open, forcing every single remaining of my consciousness into his exact running trajectory. My final gamble.
Three meters.
I aimed for his head. He moved his head to the side instinctively, his five times reaction speed couple with a veteran instinct. I already knew he would surely avoid it. But due to the short distance the bullet still grazed his cheek and tearing past his right ear.
You arrogant piece of shit.
I didn't blink. I didn't care about the burning pain in my body or the fluid soaking my trousers. Every single ounce of my remaining life, my rage, and my will to survive channeling into my finger.
Now the real shot. The one he couldn't see coming.
Good bye, bitch!
BANG!
