As the first rays of daylight crept over the horizon, the youths began to stir. One by one, Vorg, Zendo, Michael, and Arthur sat up, blinking against the pale morning glow. Sylar glanced at them, and in that shared moment their faces broke into wide, triumphant smiles.
They had accomplished the impossible—together they had survived the Star Crucible, and even more impressively, they had played a part in the destruction of two Grade 2 enemies.
Of course, it was Sylar who had delivered the killing blow to the True Apostle, but the only reason he ever had that chance was that the four of them refused to abandon him when the mountain collapsed. They had bought him the precious seconds he needed to awaken and rise.
Just as they were about to speak, ready to finally laugh and breathe after everything they had endured, the stern voice of Captain Lancel echoed across the stone fortress.
