Chapter 16 - Episode: 5 [The Secret]

"You came; what took you so long?" Edarward was scrutinising a large, transparent tank.

The tank contained misshapen black balls that floated in it.

"These Black wereworms aren't resonating with any type of energy. They are rejecting it. I have tried more than twelve different types." He was frustrated.

It was reasonable, after trying twelve assorted energies and finding no result, that you would make that hideous face.

Several tubes were connected with the tank, and at the endpoint was a box with one side exposed; that was where they were inserting energy with the help of a glassy orb, placing the orb through the opened part of the box and closing it.

The wereworm would, at first, try to absorb it, but no sooner propelling it out of them, the energy would return back, but the orb would be destroyed.

Edward cursed and kicked the wall. "Why doesn't this work? My ten years of work have gone in vain."

"You already had such an idea in mind?" Bentend asked; he was surprised.

"What else, half-smartass? You think you're the first to think of such an idea?"

I softly touched the tank, and there was a reaction from the wereworms; instantly, a possibility struck in my mind.

"What if you use an energy different from the regular?"

"You mean an extraordinary? Speak of one; there are tons of them." Edarward said, "Whatever it is, we can give it a shot."

"How do you transfer energy from a human to an orb?" I asked.

"There." He pointed at the rectangular machine; atop it protruded two rods. "Hold those rods."

I walked up to them and held them in my hands. On the big screen, nothing was detected. Edarward stroked his head and asked.

"Are you sure you have the sentries or different energy?"

The lights didn't lit up, nor was there any sign of it working. Edarward checked it; he was pissed. I stretched out my hand and absorbed his emotions.

His expression was changing. Others knew what I was trying to do.

As I absorbed it, I held the rods again, and this time. The machine worked; energy was flowing.

The stored energy in the orb was then placed in the box. Edarward waited anxiously, will it work or not?

The wereworms began to absorb the energy instead of propelling it back into the orb. It started to send it to one of the tubes, where it continued to enter a larger pipe, and for a split second, a flash of light appeared in the specific area where their usual artificial wraps appear. It faded.

It was successful; Edarward was delighted; he swaggered to me, eyes filled with confidence and approval.

"Now we need more of that energy; can you produce more of it?"

"I need to absorb a lot more of it."

"Since you take emotions, why not absorb others? There are a lot of people here."

"It's not the problem; each emotion has its own specific energy. If your machine can handle various types of them, I can."

That troubled Edarward, he tapped his forehead several times. "Right, that would be a problem."

I moved closer to the tank. "What are you doing?" asked Bentend.

I had my sword in hand and suddenly raised it high. This made others panic; he shouted to me.

"You idiot, what are you doing? Stop!" The panic turned to a fierce anger.

The blade descended, and as it was about to reach the glass, it halted an inch away. The dwarf came pouncing on me, cursing.

"Have you gone crazy, Black fool? You were about to break my masterpiece. Ten years, ten whole years."

He tugged my coat, daring to look at me with his angrily frowning eyes.

I extracted his emotions; that was the amount and level I was looking for. One strong emotion was better than hundreds of weak ones.

"These will suffice." I said, ignoring him, and I walked to the machine. My eyes curled around the rods, and the energy began to transfer.

The light lit up brightly, and the energy began to flow into the orb.

I took the orb and then placed it in the box and closed it. Edarward was looked at me confusingly; his anger had abated. The process started, and this time, the wrap appeared without disappearing after a second.

"If I had explained, this wouldn't have happened." I said.

The dwarf understood; the act of trying to destroy the tank was a deliberate attempt to make him angry if I had told him beforehand.

"Will I stop getting angry now?"

"For half an hour or so; it depends on your situation. Better start being irate; I will be in need of your anger for my use."

The dwarf blustered, "I'm not your toy; you're mine. Better start preparing yourself for helping me with the wrap."

As I looked at the wrap, there was a clock ticking above it. It showed how long the wrap will remain. 4 hours. Better than I had expected.

"We need to see if it's really connected to the other side." Said the blonde, it was the same one we had evaded before when we first entered this place.

Turned out, this person was a she.

The way she looked with that short, dishevelled hair, there was no telling if it was a man or a woman. Her voice was hoarse, which was due to a problem in her throat.

"I thought you were a man." Bentend said he was being frank.

"What's so difficult about telling?" She said, "Perhaps you are a fool that can't differentiate a man from a woman."

Bentend than pointed out about her face, her hair and… He pointed at his own chest. "Flat as a rock."

This infuriated her. "Let me tell you what's flat, you worm face." Calten held her back while laughing.

"Who said I'm a worm, you rock chest?" Goun held him back.

Every single one of them is an idiot, but this strangely made me smile. What was so good about it?

The director laughed; he was enjoying every bit of it. "Amusing youth you all are. Your talent not only exceeds but also is good with making others smile." He looked at me.

"Now shall we see what's behind that wrap?" Nithim said.
