It was a hard change for a man who had always relied on himself in everything. To learn how to let people take care of him. That feeling of giving away something that everyone has to do when they grow too old.
But it wasn't the age in Lud that made this necessary. It was his status as the king. When it was all a game, it was all something that Lud could distance himself from.
