Chapter 110 - Chapter 109: Singularity

Attendance please...

As the sun was about to set, I stared at the tired Tohru, sprawled on the surface of the sea, breathing heavily.

They had been fighting for hours, launching powerful attacks and skillfully dodging each other's blows. The intense battle drained a significant amount of their mana, leaving them exhausted. Or at least, that should have been the case for Rihito. However, halfway through the fight, he switched from his Mana Core to , so he was still perfectly fine.

Rihito descended to the surface of the sea. He applied on his legs, which allowed him to walk on the water's surface.

"So, are you satisfied enough? Or would you like to continue? " I asked.

For a second, Tohru thought of continuing and trying to move, but then she realised she didn't have the strength to do so.

"I lost," she finally admitted.

"Good, we should get out of here." Rihito let out a sigh of relief. For a moment, he thought she wanted to continue fighting, but seeing her choose otherwise, he felt relieved.

Right then, Mana Sense detected something; something large was moving towards them from beneath the depths of the sea.

He stared below.

[Seriously, why can't I catch a break?] he inwardly groaned.

Suddenly, from all around us, purple tentacles came out of the water and surrounded us.

Tohru, looking at the tentacles, growled, "That thing is here."

"Devourer," he sighed.

The tentacle twisted around us and began to converge on him, attempting to seize him.

Rihito easily dodged around the tentacles; while dodging, he sensed a few of the tentacles trying to get hold of Tohru.

Rihito immediately drew Muramasa from its sheath and swung, obliterating all the tentacles nearby.

"Tohru, how much longer before you recover?" I asked, protecting her.

"Ahh… I think in about 15 minutes I will be able to move, but for complete recovery it will take longer," she said.

"I see." Rihito swung Muramasa, releasing razor-sharp, invisible shockwaves again, obliterating the tentacles, but they kept coming.

"So troublesome."

With another swing, Rihito again cleared the tentacles.

After clearing the tentacles, he detected in about ten seconds the Devourer would surface, so before that…

Rihito placed his hand on Tohru's chest, sensing her mana core, and attempted to channel mana into it to accelerate her recovery.

[Oh, this is interesting.] Scanning her manacore, he discovered something. However, this was not the time to focus on it.

Rihito could sense that the devourer, the source of the tentacles, was drawing closer.

[It's getting near; I have to move.]

Rihito immediately carried Tohru in his arms and leapt into the sky.

Right about 2 seconds later, it surfaced with an ear-piercing shriek.

"KrrriiiiI!!!"

The moment it surfaced, the sea turned turbulent as swirling vortexes of water rose from it, influencing the weather.

Back at Erisen

Hajime gazed from his inn room toward the sunken ruins, his eyes narrowing.

"Hajime, you sensed that," Yue asked, staring in the same direction as him.

"Something is happening there, and I have a very strong feeling that he is responsible for this sudden disturbance," Hajime said confidently.

"Hmm," Yue hummed in agreement.

"What should we do?" she asked.

Hajime took a moment to ponder the thought…

"Where is Kaori?"

"She has gone to meet with Shizuku," Yue responded.

"And Tio…"

Knock Knock…

Hajime stared at the door and saw Tio walking in.

"Oh, by that look on your face, it seems I was not the only one who has sensed that," she inquired.

"It seems Rihito is up to something," Yue said, stating the obvious.

"Should we prepare?" Tio asked. She sensed a significant weather disturbance approaching from that direction... If something is not done about that, Erisen might be in danger.

"No, he is fighting there; by the time we get there, it will be too late. Therefore, we will stay here and protect Erisen," Hajime decided.

"Are you sure about that?" Tio asked.

Hajime approached the window and noticed the wind picking up. "A storm is coming," he said as he tapped a few buttons on a device that resembled a black wristwatch.

In response to that, multiple Ornis enchanted with and cover the sky, maintaining a certain distance.

Noticing they were in position, Hajime pressed another button.

All the Ornis glowed with a green light, forming hexagonal barriers, and the Ornis effortlessly covered one another, leaving no gaps.

After Hajime ensured the barrier was in place, he pressed another button to activate camouflage, concealing everything from people's view.

Tio watched the Ornis in the sky, and the way the barrier activated made her raise a brow.

Isn't that the same type of barrier that Fried used to block attacks in Gruen Volcano? When did the Master recreate it?

"That will handle the stormy wind. It'll be troublesome if something happens to Myu," Hajime leaned into the window.

"And Rihito's boot camp will start soon. Before that, I will enjoy my free time without any interruptions," he said, clenching his fists.

"That's right," Yue nods in agreement.

Tio looked at them, a bit concerned. [What did he do to them?]

"What a pain." Rihito weaves through multiple water blasts aimed at him.

"Kiirrriiiiii!!"

"Stop screaming, dammit; that screeching is hurting my ears," Rihito said, annoyedly.

Rihito's eyes then shifted to Tohru. He was carrying her in a princess carry, and she, in his arms, snuggled in, enjoying the moment.

"Hey, how much longer will you be lying on me?" I glanced at Tohru, who was curled up in my arms.

"Eh? But it's so comfortable in your arms, and I am tired, and it's the first time you've held me like this; I want to stay like this." Tohru whined and latched onto his neck.

"Haa…" Rihito sighed.

[Where did her anger for Devourer go?] he wondered.

He moved again, dodging two gigantic water blasts.

"Come on now, this is not the time and place to have a conversation like this." At that moment, he just wanted to get away from here.

Right then, both of them noticed the wind picking up and rain starting to fall.

[This can't be good.]

Just when Rihito thought that, he heard Devourer screeching.

"Krrriiiiiiiiiiii!"

"Kriiiiiiiiiiii!" The Devourer's surrounding water began to spin around it and rise, completely engulfing it and creating a gigantic hurricane that reached the sky.

"Holy," Rihito immediately made distance from the fierce stormy winds.

But to his surprise, the hurricane started to follow him.

"That thing really has it for me, doesn't it?"

"Master, to defeat it, you must completely obliterate it, or it will just regenerate and come after you again. They are quite persistent, and it seems this one wants to absorb your mana." Tohru glared at the devourer as if she wanted to blast it to bits, but because of her low mana, she couldn't.

"Just my luck," he said with an exasperated sigh.

"Tohru…"

She noticed the slight change in Rihito's voice; instead of grumbling and obstructing him, she stood a step behind him like a proper maid. She has recovered enough mana to move herself with Rihito's help, and her master is now serious.

"Tohru, step back a little," he warned.

"Yes."

He donned his mask, shifting into a battle-ready stance. He summoned a fireball the size of a football in his left hand, rotating it and releasing an immense amount of heat.

"What was that move called again?" Rihito wondered, searching through his memories, and soon he remembered.

"I remember now: survive this, 'Cruel Sun.'" With those words, the spell, Cruel Sun, was released.

It increased tenfold in size as soon as he released the spell, and the heat became so intense that it began to evaporate all nearby water.

Rihito managed the spell's path to the Devourer's location in the hurricane's center.

"Krrrraaaaiiiiiii!!!!"

Devourer, noticing the incoming attack, sneers in contempt at the fire attack: the element least effective against it.

Devour increased the hurricane's speed and chose to confront the spell directly, a major mistake.

The moment the Cruel Sun touched the large amount of water, it exploded.

Rihito predicted the intensity of the explosion, so he immediately bolted, taking Tohru with him.

Boooom!!

The moment he left, a steam explosion erupted, matching the devastation and the sound of a nuclear bomb.

"Do you think it can survive that?" Rihito asked.

"I think so, but I can't be certain," Tohru said with an apologetic smile.

"Don't worry about it, but could you stop moving your hands?" When I pulled her closer and ran, she seized the opportunity to make her moves; her attempts to seduce me became more direct.

"We still need to deal with the aftermath of that explosion." I watched a gigantic tsunami heading toward me.

"I really can't catch a break," how many times has he said that now?

"Krrrraaaaiiiiiii!!!!"

The devourer emerges from the top of the tsunami.

"You again," he was livid now.

"I have had enough of you."

The temperature around him started to drop sharply.

"Frost."

Taking Rihito as the center, a freezing cold wave was unleashed, freezing everything within a five-kilometre radius.

"You are still alive," Rihito stated, staring at the frozen Devourer, which, he guessed, happened because it was highly resistant to magic.

The Devourer's frozen body shattered, and a smaller one emerged from the ice. It has shrunk considerably, from over 23 meters to 9 meters.

"You managed to survive by giving up that massive body. You have good instincts," he said, truly impressed.

"But I've had enough of this. I was supposed to have a good time after that fight with Tohru, but then you came and ruined it." The space around Rihito began to distort.

"YOU ARE IN MY WAYYY!!!" Rihito roared.

Rihito used spatial magic to create a singularity by bending space at a concentrated point. The amount of mana needed for this feat was enormous; however, with his increasing reserves of Archmage mana, he was now capable of such a powerful spell. In his hands, he held a black hole that began distorting space and time as it pulled everything nearby toward it. To control this uncontrollable phenomenon, he created a spatial barrier to contain the magnetic field generated by the black hole.

His eyes then shifted to the writhing Devourer, which was frantically writhing, trying to get away.

It could sense that if it didn't run, it would perish.

The power of a black hole in the palm of his hands. He stared at the new spell.

The spell had flaws and needed a few tweaks, but after that, it would be one of the strongest attacks he would have.

"Be gone from my sight, 'BLACKHOLE.'"

With a flick of his finger, he fired.

The devourer attempted to escape, but halfway through, it was swallowed by a pitch-black distortion, remaining unseen forever.
