Chapter 428 - SK

South Korea's entertainment industry had been on a meteoric rise in recent years, capturing the attention of audiences worldwide. From gripping dramas to chart-topping K-pop, and critically acclaimed films, the country was cementing its place as a global cultural powerhouse.

Groups like Big Bang had amassed a colossal following, not just in their home country, but across China, Japan, and Southeast Asia. Psy's viral hit "Oppa Gangnam Style" had shattered records, becoming the first YouTube video to surpass a billion views.

On the silver screen, films like "Train to Busan" were earning international acclaim and impressive box office numbers, grossing nearly $100 million worldwide. Meanwhile, K-dramas such as "My Love From The Stars" were captivating viewers across continents, showcasing the emotional depth and storytelling prowess of Korean television.

It was clear that South Korea's entertainment industry was not only thriving but also constantly exploring new avenues and pushing boundaries. Yet, as Lucas mused, there were still limits to what the industry could delve into under current constraints.

A thoughtful smile played on his lips as he considered the untapped potential. Beside him, Jennifer settled into her seat as they prepared for takeoff in Lucas's private jet, destined for Seoul.

Outside, a throng of reporters clamored for a glimpse of the power couple, their cameras flashing and questions shouted over the roar of the engines. But Lucas's security team held the line, ensuring the pair could board without interference.

As the jet soared into the sky, the frustrated journalists were left to speculate on the purpose of the trip.

"Where do you think they're headed?" one reporter mused, lowering her camera.

"Probably some secret getaway," another suggested. "You know, a pre-honeymoon of sorts."

"Are you kidding? They're not even married yet!"

"Well, whatever it is, it's sure to make a hell of a story."

The reporters dispersed, already drafting headlines in their minds and eagerly anticipating any scraps of information they could uncover.

"Hollywood's Hottest Couple Jet Off to Mystery Destination!"

"Lucas Knight and Jennifer Lawrence's Secret Rendezvous: What Are They Hiding?"

Little did they know that Lucas and Jennifer's destination was no romantic retreat. Instead, they were bound for South Korea on serious business - the expansion of Netflix into the Asian market.

As a board member, significant shareholder, and creative advisor for the streaming giant, Lucas's presence was crucial to the company's ambitious plans for growth in the region.

Hours later, Lucas's private jet touched down at Seoul's Gimpo International Airport. As the wheels hit the tarmac, Lucas's eyes fluttered open. He turned to Jennifer, gently nudging her awake.

"Are we here already?" she murmured, stretching in her seat.

Lucas nodded, a smile playing on his lips. "Welcome to South Korea."

As they prepared to disembark, Jake, Simon, and Shawn approached, ready to escort the couple off the plane. They chatted quietly, going over the itinerary and security details.

Peering out the window, Lucas noticed a small group of suited figures waiting on the tarmac. Even from a distance, he could see their smiles, their excitement palpable as they caught sight of not just him, but Jennifer by his side.

The moment the couple descended the stairs, the waiting group approached, led by a distinguished middle-aged man.

"Mr. Knight, Ms. Lawrence," he greeted them in accented English, his voice warm with welcome. "Such an honor to have you here in Korea. I am Kang Joon-suk, head of Netflix Services Korea."

Lucas grasped Mr. Kang's outstretched hand, shaking it firmly. "The pleasure is all ours, Mr. Kang. Thank you for having us."

As the introductions wrapped up, Lucas and Jennifer couldn't help but notice the palpable excitement radiating from the Korean delegation. The awestruck glances and barely contained smiles made it clear: they were in the presence of true Hollywood royalty.

Mr. Kang appeared lost in an internal monologue, his heart pounding with excitement. 'I can't believe I just shook hands with Hollywood stars like Lucas Knight and Jennifer Lawrence,' he thought, barely able to contain his thrill. 'I can't wait to brag about this to my family!'

The group made their way towards the waiting cars, but the moment they stepped out of the airport, they were met with an unexpected commotion. Passersby, initially going about their business, began to do double-takes as they spotted the famous couple.

"Is that... It can't be!" a young woman gasped, her eyes widening in disbelief.

Whispers quickly turned to shouts as more and more people recognized the stars in their midst. "Lucas Knight! Jennifer Lawrence! Oh my god, it's really them!"

Within seconds, a crowd had begun to form, people pulling out their phones to capture the moment. Jack and Simon, attuned to the rising fervor, immediately went on high alert.

"Lucas, we've been made," Jack warned, his eyes scanning the growing throng. "We need to get to the cars, now."

Lucas nodded, quickening his pace. But the crowd was already surging forward, eager fans pressing in from all sides.

"Lucas! Lucas! Please, can I have an autograph?" a young man called out, waving a notebook above his head.

Mr. Kang, clearly flustered, began shouting at the crowd in rapid-fire Korean, trying to clear a path. But his words were lost in the cacophony of excited voices and camera shutters.

Jennifer, her eyes wide, clung to Lucas's arm as they pushed through the throng. She had expected a degree of anonymity here, a chance to escape the constant attention. But it seemed fame knew no borders.

After what felt like an eternity, they finally reached the sanctuary of the waiting car. But even as they slid into the backseat, the vehicle rocked with the impact of eager hands pounding on the windows.

"Go, go, go!" Mr. Kang urged the driver, his face flushed with exertion and embarrassment.

As the car pulled away, leaving the disappointed crowd behind, Jennifer slumped against Lucas, letting out a breathless laugh.

"So much for a low-key arrival," she sighed, shaking her head. "I really thought we'd be able to blend in here, at least a little."

Lucas chuckled with a hint of ruefulness, draping an arm around her shoulders. "Guess we're in the same boat. I thought the Korean fans would be more... reserved, like the ones in Japan. Looks like I was mistaken."

Jennifer snorted, poking him in the ribs. "Well, looks like you were dead wrong on that one, mister."

Mr. Kang felt the heat rising in his cheeks, a flush of embarrassment coloring his face. While he knew the Hollywood power couple in his car were global superstars, the overzealous display from his fellow Koreans at the airport had caught him off guard.

"Mr. Knight, Ms. Lawrence, I deeply apologize for the commotion back there," he began, his tone contrite. "I assure you, that kind of behavior is not typical—"

Lucas waved off the apology with a good-natured smile. "Please, Mr. Kang, there's no need. It wasn't your fault in the slightest."

He leaned back, a playful glint in his eye. "If anything, I should have worn a better disguise. A fake mustache, perhaps? What do you think, Jennifer?"

Jennifer laughed, shaking her head at his antics. Mr. Kang, however, sat in awkward silence, clearly not quite attuned to Lucas's Western-style humor. He managed a polite chuckle, but the joke seemed to have fallen flat.

Sensing the need for a change of subject, Lucas cleared his throat. "You know, Mr. Kang, on our flight here, Jennifer and I had the chance to watch some recent Korean films. I have to say, we were thoroughly impressed. The talent in your country's entertainment industry is truly remarkable."

Mr. Kang perked up at this, his embarrassment forgotten in the face of Lucas's praise. "That's wonderful to hear, Mr. Knight. We at Netflix Services Korea are incredibly excited about the potential for original Korean content on the platform."

He leaned forward, his enthusiasm palpable. "In fact, we already have a number of promising projects in the pipeline. Scripts are coming in from some of the country's top writers, and our team is hard at work identifying the most compelling stories to bring to life."

Lucas nodded, his interest piqued. "I would love to take a look at some of those scripts, if possible. As a creative advisor, I'm always on the hunt for fresh, unique narratives that can resonate with a global audience."

"Of course, of course!" Mr. Kang agreed readily. "Your input would be invaluable. After all, your instincts have already proven legendary. I heard it was your backing that got 'Stranger Things' off the ground. With your eye for talent, I have no doubt any project you choose will be a smashing success."

In the front seat, Mr. Kang's colleagues exchanged subtle glances, their thoughts unspoken but clear: 'Laying it on a bit thick there, boss.'

Within an hour of Lucas and Jennifer's arrival in South Korea, the internet was ablaze with news of their presence. Social media platforms like Naver and KakaoTalk were flooded with candid photos and videos of the couple's airport appearance, each one racking up thousands of likes and comments.

"Lucas Knight and Jennifer Lawrence in Seoul? What could they be here for?"

"Netflix is investing big in Korean content, right? Maybe they're scouting for new projects!"

"Forget business, I hope they go on 'Running Man'! Can you imagine them playing the games with Yoo Jae-suk and the cast?"

The online chatter quickly caught the attention of major news outlets, who began to speculate on the purpose of the visit and its potential impact on the Korean entertainment industry.

Meanwhile, in the offices of various TV networks and production companies, executives were scrambling to seize the opportunity. If they could get the Hollywood power couple to appear on one of their shows, the ratings would be astronomical.

Invitations began to pour in, each one more enthusiastic than the last. From popular variety programs like "Knowing Bros" and "Weekly Idol" to more intimate talk shows, everyone wanted a piece of Lucas and Jennifer.

Relaxing in their hotel room after a long day of meetings, Lucas scrolled through the growing list of offers on his tablet. While his primary focus was on reviewing scripts and moving forward with his K-pop investments, he couldn't deny the temptation of a little on-screen fun.

"What do you think, Jennifer?" he mused, angling the screen towards her. "Feel like playing some silly games on Korean TV?"

Jennifer, sprawled out on the bed, grinned up at him. "Could be a nice break from all the business talk. Plus, it would give the fans what they want."

Lucas nodded, his mind already weighing the possibilities. A guest spot on a popular show could be the perfect way to further endear themselves to the Korean public, to show a more lighthearted side of the Hollywood heavyweights.

But which invitation to accept? That was the question.
