Deadline
"The Green Lanterns is a visual spectacle unlike anything we have seen in superhero cinema, arguably since Avatar. The CGI work is absolutely flawless. Director Joseph Kosinski crafts action sequences that are both gorgeous and coherent, a rarity in modern blockbusters. This is space opera done right."

Hollywood Reporter
"The visuals are jaw-dropping, and the central relationship between Hal and John is expertly crafted, with Pine and Idris playing off each other beautifully. The action sequences are among the best in the DCU. However, Sinestro feels somewhat undercooked as a villain. We get glimpses of his complexity, but the film does not dive deep enough into his motivations. Still, this is a minor quibble in an otherwise stellar entry."

Variety
"Chris Pine and Damson Idris elevate The Green Lanterns beyond its spectacular visuals. Their chemistry is electric, and their contrasting approaches to heroism create genuine dramatic tension. The film earns its emotional moments, particularly in its handling of sacrifice and mentorship. Sinestro's presence looms large, and the setup for future conflicts is tantalizing."

The movie was spectacular. It was a love letter to Hal and a great introduction to John. Wow. Just wow.
u/DirtyRepertoire (4.2k upvotes):
Adler, you beautiful man. It is a fine meal you made for us.
u/vacantwaistcoat_28 (3.9k upvotes):
Wow. I was one of the haters of this movie because Hal was being sidelined as the main Lantern. But damn, son. How did they manage to balance both characters and make a movie this good?
u/mushy_staging (3.4k upvotes):
Sinestro felt underwhelming to me. Maybe it is just me. I think he needed more screen time.
u/observantequation_58 replying (2.1k upvotes):
I agree. This really should have been a Hal Jordan origin movie. Less John would have made more room for Sinestro. Do not get me wrong, the movie was great, but I feel like we missed out on really exploring Sinestro's fall and his relationship with Hal. The flashbacks were good, but I wanted more. They are clearly setting him up for something big, but in this movie he felt like he was just there to move the plot forward rather than being a fully realized character.
u/silly_semifinal (2.8k upvotes):
I was excited for Star Sapphire. BITCH, THERE IS NO STAR SAPPHIRE. They tricked us. Carol is barely in the movie.
u/slushy_custard replying (1.9k upvotes):
Maybe next movie? If that end credit scene is anything to go by… oh my. Hal Jordan fans, things are going to get…
u/quaintbowling5 (2.6k upvotes):
The motherfucking Batman cameo stole the entire movie from the Green Lanterns. He just keeps getting cooler and cooler.
u/StarchyBoldness (2.3k upvotes):
Did Adler cameo in the movie?
u/keen_accuracy replying (1.7k upvotes):
Yeah, he was the guy taking photos when Hal was fighting Sinestro.
u/SeparateTuning (2.1k upvotes):
I am raving about the visuals. Who does the VFX for DC? Damn, it is good.
u/SeparateTuning (1.8k upvotes):
My parents want to watch the movie again. I am telling you now, folks, a lot of people are going to be going back just to see the visual spectacle.
u/like_father_like_son (1.6k upvotes):
Damson was great. I am really looking forward to seeing him more in the future.
u/IncompleteMayor (1.4k upvotes):
Chris Pine and Damson really acted their asses off here. Damson is a future superstar. My son is happy that one of the superheroes looks like him. He has become a Green Lantern fan for life, I believe.

So about that end credit scene… FUCK.

The Green Lanterns Soars with $346 Million Global Opening Weekend
Joseph Kosinski's The Green Lanterns opened to a massive $346 million worldwide this weekend, delivering yet another blockbuster hit for the DC Cinematic Universe. The film earned $156 million domestically and $190 million internationally, marking one of the strongest openings of 2017 so far.
The film has been universally praised as a visual spectacle, with critics and audiences alike raving about the groundbreaking CGI that brings the cosmic world of the DCU to life. Chris Pine and Damson Idris's performances as Hal Jordan and John Stewart have been singled out as major highlights, with their chemistry driving the film's emotional core.
"This is what superhero filmmaking should be," said Paul Dergarabedian, senior media analyst at comScore. "The Green Lanterns combines stunning visuals with strong character work and an engaging story. It's firing on all cylinders."
The film's success continues the DCU's hot streak, following the seven films that preceded it. With overwhelmingly positive word of mouth and strong exit polls, analysts are predicting smooth sailing for the movie in the weeks ahead.
"We're already seeing repeat viewings," said one theater chain executive. "People want to experience those visuals again on the big screen. This film has serious legs."
Industry insiders are now projecting a final worldwide gross between $1.4 billion and $1.6 billion, which would make The Green Lanterns another billion dollar entry for the DCU as it heads toward the highly anticipated Justice League later this year.

The Green Lanterns fly in to a record-breaking second weekend.
Joseph Kosinski's The Green Lanterns is proving to have extraordinary staying power at the box office, posting one of the smallest second weekend drops in superhero movie history.
The film earned an estimated $278 million worldwide in its second weekend, bringing its ten day total to $624 million globally. The domestic hold was particularly impressive, dropping only 32 percent to earn $106 million, while international markets remained exceptionally strong with $172 million.
"This is unprecedented for a film of this scale," said box office analyst Shawn Robbins. "We're seeing Avatar and Superman level holds here. The word of mouth is just incredible, and people are going back for repeat viewings specifically to experience the visuals again."
The film's second weekend performance has industry insiders scrambling to revise their projections upward. What was initially forecast as a $1.4 billion movie is now being recalculated.
"If The Green Lanterns continues at this pace, we could be looking at $2 billion worldwide," said Paul Dergarabedian, senior media analyst at comScore. "That would shatter all expectations and make it one of the highest grossing films of all time."
The film's success is being attributed to several factors, including stunning visual effects that demand to be seen on the big screen, strong performances from Chris Pine and Damson Idris, positive critical reviews with an 85 percent score on Rotten Tomatoes, and enthusiastic audience response.
Theater owners report that IMAX and premium large format screens are selling out well into the week, with families, couples, and superhero fans all turning out in large numbers.
"This is a cultural phenomenon," said one theater chain executive. "People are not just seeing it once. We are tracking significant repeat business, especially among younger audiences who want to see it again."
The Green Lanterns' performance continues the DCU's dominance at the box office and sets the stage for an enormous year, culminating in Justice League this December.

Civil War is going to turn the tide. Just wait and see, DCtard.
"No, Kevin, this looks like a coincidence," I said, trying to hold my laughter as I read through Twitter posts about the similarities between the fight scenes in Civil War and The Green Lanterns.
Kevin sighed. "I guess you're right." He paused. "But they're going to have to make some last minute changes."
"Just leave it in, man," I said. "It's only three or four seconds where the choreography looks the same."
Feige hesitated. "I don't know."
"Look, I won't tell you how to do your job, but my opinion is to leave it in. People will see it as a fun coincidence, just like it is."
Feige said he was going to think about it.
I ended the call and laughed.

The Green Lanterns Closes Theatrical Run with Historic $1.9 Billion Worldwide
Joseph Kosinski's The Green Lanterns has officially concluded its theatrical run with a staggering $1.9 billion worldwide, cementing its place as one of the highest grossing films of all time and the second biggest entry in the DC Cinematic Universe.
The film earned $784 million domestically and $1.116 billion internationally over its remarkable run, making it one of only a handful of films to cross the $1.9 billion threshold.
What makes the achievement even more impressive is the timeline. The Green Lanterns accomplished this feat in just three to four months, an extraordinarily compressed window for such massive earnings. The film's performance was driven by unprecedented repeat viewings, with exit polls showing that more than 60 percent of audiences saw the film more than once.
"The visual spectacle was the main draw," said Paul Dergarabedian, senior media analyst at comScore. "People wanted to experience it again, and they kept coming back. We saw families, couples, and hardcore fans all returning for second and even third viewings."
Theater owners reported that IMAX and premium large format screens maintained strong sales well into the film's eighth and ninth weeks, a rarity for tentpole releases.
"This wasn't just a movie. It was an event," said one theater chain executive.
The success of The Green Lanterns has sent anticipation for Justice League, releasing in nine months, to an all time high. Industry experts are now predicting that the team up film could easily surpass the DCU's current box office champion, Superman, which earned $2.2 billion worldwide.
"Justice League has everything going for it," said box office analyst Shawn Robbins. "The DCU has delivered hit after hit, the characters are beloved, and the hype is at a fever pitch. If any film can break $2.5 billion, it's this one."
For Daniel Adler and the DCU, The Green Lanterns represents another monumental success in what has been an unprecedented run of box office dominance. With Justice League on the horizon, 2017 is shaping up to be the year the DCU cements its place as the premier superhero franchise in cinema.
