As long as the benefits offered were enough, the favors big enough, and the prestige high enough, that would suffice.
The only hesitation was whether it was appropriate to use favors and prestige, as well as vast benefits, to request the assistance of a Sub-Sage for dealing with Sha Chen. After all, there was no certainty that even a Sub-Sage's involvement would ensure success. But whether successful or not, the favor would still be owed, and the benefits would have to be given. To go to such lengths merely to confront Sha Chen seemed perhaps unjustifiably excessive.
