Chapter 7 - Synchronization

As Rohit held the crystal orb in his hand, a faint hum resonated through the clearing. The air grew heavier, as if the world itself had paused to observe them.

"Don't touch it too carelessly," Vansh said instinctively, though he didn't know why.

Too late.

The moment Rohit's fingers tightened around the orb, it began to glow—first softly, then blindingly bright.

"What the—?!"

A sharp pulse of light erupted from the crystal.

Suddenly—

The surroundings flickered.

The trees distorted.

The sky fractured like broken glass.

For a split second, Vansh saw something else entirely—

A different sky.A ruined city.And a figure standing far away… watching them.

Then—

Everything snapped back.

The clearing returned to normal.

The orb dimmed.

Silence.

Rohit staggered backward. "Did you guys… see that?"

Sawati clutched her head. "That wasn't imagination… that felt real."

Vansh didn't respond immediately.

Because something else was wrong.

Very wrong.

He slowly opened the scroll again.

The text… had changed.

"What does it say now?" Rohit asked.

Vansh swallowed.

"It wasn't like this before…"

He read aloud:

"Phase One Initiated.""Observer Detected.""Player Synchronization: 3%"

A cold chill ran down all their spines.

Sawati whispered, "Player…?"

Vansh's mind raced.

Game.AI.Story.Reality.

Everything was starting to overlap.

The clearing stood silent.

Not the peaceful kind of silence—but the kind that pressed against your ears, heavy and unnatural.

Vansh's eyes remained fixed on the scroll in his hand. The words still burned into his mind:

"Phase One Initiated.""Observer Detected.""Player Synchronization: 3%"

A cold breeze passed through the grove, rustling the leaves above them.

No one spoke.

"Say something…" Rohit finally muttered, his voice unsteady. "What does that even mean?"

Vansh didn't answer immediately.

Because deep down—

He already knew.

Or at least… he feared he did.

Before he could respond, the crystal orb in Rohit's hand pulsed again.

Once.

Twice.

Then—

A faint glow spread across its surface.

"Rohit… put it down," Vansh said, his tone sharper this time.

But it was too late.

The light expanded.

The ground beneath them trembled slightly.

And suddenly—

A translucent screen flickered into existence in front of Vansh.

It hovered in the air.

Glitching.

Distorting.

Yet… undeniably real.

[ SYSTEM INITIALIZING… ]

[ ERROR… RECONNECTING… ]

[ SYNCING… 5% ]

"What the hell is that?!" Rohit stepped back, nearly dropping the orb.

"I… I can see it too," Sawati whispered, her voice trembling.

Vansh's heartbeat accelerated.

This wasn't imagination.

This wasn't coincidence.

This was happening.

The screen stabilized.

[ WELCOME, CANDIDATE ]

[ PRIMARY USER IDENTIFIED: VANSH DEV ]

[ SECONDARY ENTITIES DETECTED ]

"Secondary entities?" Rohit frowned. "Are we… NPCs now or what?"

"Don't joke," Sawati snapped softly, though fear lingered in her voice.

Another line appeared.

[ OBSERVER STATUS: ACTIVE ]

Vansh's breath hitched.

Observer.

Again.

"That word…" he murmured. "It was in the scroll too."

The orb dimmed slightly.

But the system remained.

Watching.

Waiting.

Then—

A new prompt appeared.

[ DO YOU ACCEPT SYNCHRONIZATION? ]

[ YES ] [ NO ]

Silence fell once more.

"Don't press anything," Rohit said immediately.

"Wait," Vansh replied.

His eyes narrowed.

Every instinct told him this was dangerous.

But another voice—quieter, deeper—

Told him this was inevitable.

"If this is connected to everything…" Vansh said slowly, "then refusing won't stop it."

"Or it might save us," Sawati countered.

For a moment, no one moved.

Then—

The screen flickered violently.

[ WARNING: DELAY DETECTED ][ FORCED SYNCHRONIZATION IN 10… ]

"Are you kidding me?!" Rohit shouted.

9…

"Vansh, do something!" Sawati grabbed his arm, her voice trembling.

8…

Vansh's mind raced.

This was it.

The moment every story he had ever read had prepared him for.

The point of no return.

7…

Another screen appeared.

Different.

Smaller.

Colder.

[ ADDITIONAL CONDITION DETECTED ]

[ SECONDARY ENTITIES LINKED TO PRIMARY USER ]

Vansh froze.

[ SELECT MODE ]

[ SOLO PATH ] — Secondary entities will be disconnected[ SHARED PATH ] — Secondary entities will be synchronized

Silence.

Rohit frowned. "What does that even mean?"

Sawati tightened her grip on Vansh's sleeve. "We're coming with you… right?"

Vansh didn't answer.

His eyes remained locked on the screen.

He understood.

Too well.

If this was anything like the stories he had read—

Then this wasn't just a choice.

It was a responsibility.

Danger.

Unknown worlds.

Unpredictable consequences.

He looked at Rohit.

Seven years of friendship.

Laughter. Fights. Memories.

Then at Sawati—

Nervous. Brave. Trusting.

They didn't belong in this.

"…No," Vansh whispered.

"What?" Rohit stepped forward. "What do you mean 'no'?"

Vansh forced a faint smile.

A lie.

"If this is real… then it's not a game," he said quietly."And I don't know what's waiting ahead."

6…

"I can't drag you both into something I don't understand."

Sawati shook her head. "We'll figure it out together—"

"No," Vansh interrupted softly.

For the first time—

His voice carried certainty.

"If something happens to me… it ends with me."

Rohit's expression hardened. "Don't act like some hero. We've always handled things together."

Vansh looked at him.

Really looked.

"That's exactly why," he said.

5…

The screen pulsed.

Waiting.

His hand trembled slightly as he moved it forward.

[ SOLO PATH ]

For a brief second—

The system hesitated.

[ CONFIRM SELECTION? ]

Vansh closed his eyes.

"I'm sorry."

He pressed—

[ YES ]

4…

3…

2…

Nothing happened.

Rohit blinked. "What…?"

Sawati loosened her grip.

"…Vansh?" she whispered.

He didn't respond.

Because something had already begun.

A faint distortion spread through the air.

Like heat waves.

Rohit frowned. "Why does it feel so… strange?"

Sawati looked around, confused.

"Wait… why are we even here?"

Vansh's breath stopped.

Rohit stepped back slightly.

"…And why do I feel like we forgot something?"

The world began to blur.

Not for them.

For him.

The system's final message appeared—

[ SECONDARY ENTITIES DISCONNECTED ][ MEMORY ADJUSTMENT IN PROGRESS ]

Vansh tried to speak—

But no words came out.

Rohit glanced around once more.

"…We should go," he said slowly. "Feels like we came here for nothing."

Sawati nodded faintly.

"…Yeah. Let's leave."

They turned.

And walked away.

No hesitation.

No memory.

No Vansh.

The moment they crossed the edge of the clearing—

It was as if he had never existed.

Silence.

Complete.

Vansh stood alone.

For the first time—

Truly alone.

Then—

1…

Everything went white.

A voice echoed.

Cold.

Absolute.

"Synchronization Accepted."

Pain exploded through his body.

He collapsed.

Fragments flooded his mind—

Fire.

Ruins.

The girl.

The shadow.

The watcher.

And then—

Darkness.

When Vansh opened his eyes again—

The world had changed.

A screen appeared.

Clear.

Final.

[ PLAYER INITIALIZED ]

Name: Vansh DevClass: UnassignedLevel: 1Synchronization: 10%

He looked around.

No Rohit.

No Sawati.

No trace.

Only silence.

His hands trembled.

"…So this is the price," he whispered.

Far in the distance—

Something moved.

Watching.

Waiting.

Vansh slowly stood up.

This wasn't a game anymore.

It was survival.

"…and I chose this."
