Aliena couldn't move.
Sebastian stood before her.
At least…
he looked like Sebastian.
The same black hair.
The same face.
The same body.
The same wings.
But those eyes were wrong.
One was completely black.
The other burned crimson.
And when he smiled at her, there was nothing familiar in it.
No warmth.
No teasing.
No quiet affection.
No Sebastian.
Only something ancient.
Something that had been waiting.
Aliena took another step backward.
"Sebastian…"
He tilted his head.
"You're afraid of me."
His voice was calm.
Too calm.
Aliena swallowed.
"Who are you?"
The smile disappeared.
For a moment, something almost human flashed across his face.
Then it vanished.
"You know me."
"No."
"You loved me."
Aliena's heart pounded.
"Sebastian?"
The man stepped closer.
"That's the name they gave me."
He reached toward her.
Aliena immediately stepped away.
"Don't."
His hand stopped.
The expression on his face changed.
Hurt.
Real hurt.
