...

Cena gained the upper hand, backing the taller Scotsman into the ropes. He whipped Drew across the ring, lowering his head for a back body drop, but McIntyre read the maneuver perfectly. As Drew rebounded, he delivered a sharp, running knee directly to Cena's face, snapping the champion's head backward. Cena stumbled, completely dazed. Drew grabbed him by the back of the neck, hooked his arm, and effortlessly hoisted the two hundred and fifty one pound champion into the air, dropping him with a beautiful, high angle stalling suplex.

Drew hooked the leg.

"ONE!"

"TWO!"

Cena kicked out forcefully, rolling his shoulder off the mat.

"The sheer power of Drew McIntyre is something you just can't prepare for," Cole noted, shaking his head. "He is six foot five, two hundred and sixty five pounds of pure muscle, and he moves like a cruiserweight."

Drew didn't let the kickout frustrate him. He dragged Cena up by his arm, twisting it sharply behind the champion's back, and drove his knee brutally into Cena's spine. Cena cried out in pain as Drew applied a standing armbar, wrenching the shoulder joint with terrifying torque.

"Systematic destruction," JBL praised. "Drew is targeting the shoulder and the back. He wants to take away John Cena's power game. If Cena can't lift him for the Attitude Adjustment, Cena has zero chance of retaining that title."

Cena gritted his teeth, fighting against the immense pressure. Feeding off the vocal, polarizing energy of the crowd, the champion slowly fought his way out of the hold, throwing heavy elbows backward into Drew's ribs. The grip broke. Cena hit the ropes, building momentum for his signature flying shoulder tackle.

But Drew was a step ahead. As Cena launched himself into the air, McIntyre sidestepped the attack. He caught Cena out of mid air, wrapping his thick arms around the champion's waist, and threw him forcefully overhead with a breathtaking release belly to belly suplex!

Cena went flying across the ring, crashing awkwardly near the turnbuckles. He rolled under the bottom rope, tumbling out onto the ringside floor to catch his breath.

Drew wasn't about to give him a moment of peace. The challenger slid out of the ring, stalking Cena like a predator. He grabbed the champion by the back of the neck and slammed his face brutally into the hard, unforgiving surface of the steel ring steps.

The sickening thud echoed through the front rows.

"Come on, Drew, take it easy!" Lawler winced. "You're going to break his nose!"

Drew ignored the commentary team. He grabbed Cena by the arm, Irish whipping him with maximum velocity directly into the steel barricade. The impact nearly bent the safety railing backward, sending Cena crumbling to the thin blue mats covering the concrete floor.

The referee leaned over the top rope, beginning his ten-count.

"ONE!"

"TWO!"

Drew grabbed Cena by the hair, dragging the groggy champion up, and rolled him back under the bottom rope. Drew slid in right behind him, instantly dropping a heavy, driving elbow drop squarely across Cena's chest.

"ONE!"

"TWO!"

"NO!"

Cena pushed his shoulder up, his legendary resilience keeping him in the fight.

For the next ten minutes, the Scottish Psychopath put on a masterclass of ruthless, grinding dominance. He dictated the pace, slowing the match down to an agonizing crawl. Every time Cena tried to build a flurry of offense, Drew found a way to cut him down.

Drew trapped Cena in a grounded crossface, wrapping his thick forearm under Cena's chin and pulling back violently. The champion's face turned a deep shade of crimson as he struggled for oxygen.

"Listen to the crowd," Cole observed over the noise. "Even the fans who normally boo John Cena are starting to rally behind him. The sheer brutality of Drew McIntyre is forcing this audience to respect the champion's heart."

Cena refused to quit. He planted his hands on the canvas, slowly pushing his upper body up. With an agonizing groan, Cena powered his way to a vertical base, carrying the two hundred and sixty five pound challenger on his back. Cena backed up rapidly, driving Drew into the turnbuckles to break the suffocating hold.

Drew stumbled backward, clutching his ribs. Cena hit the ropes, looking for a desperation clothesline, but Drew caught him with a devastating, spinning spinebuster that shook the foundation of the ring!

Drew scrambled into the cover, hooking both legs deeply.

"ONE!"

"TWO!"

"NO!"

Cena kicked out just a fraction of a second before the three-count.

Drew sat up, running his hands through his sweat soaked dark hair. The sadistic smile faded, replaced by a look of intense, boiling frustration. He grabbed Cena by the chin, hauling him up to a kneeling position, and began slapping the champion disrespectfully across the face.

"Stay down!" Drew yelled, his voice picked up clearly by the ringside microphones. "You're nothing! Stay down!"

The slaps didn't break Cena's spirit, they woke him up.

Cena's eyes snapped open, a fierce, burning determination flashing in his gaze. He blocked the next slap, grabbing Drew's wrist, and pushed himself up to his feet. Cena threw a massive right hand. Drew staggered. Cena hit the ropes, ducking a clothesline, and delivered two rapid fire, flying shoulder tackles that finally knocked the big Scotsman off his feet.

The Philips Arena erupted as Cena went into his legendary sequence of moves.

Drew popped up blindly, swinging a wild punch. Cena ducked under the blow, planted his feet firmly on the canvas, scooped McIntyre up, and planted him with the spin out powerbomb!

The crowd roared in anticipation. Cena stood over the fallen challenger, raising his hand in front of his face.

"You can't see me!"

Cena bounced off the ropes, brushing dirt off his shoulder, and dropped the Five Knuckle Shuffle cleanly across McIntyre's forehead.

"Cena is dialing it up, gentlemen!" Cole yelled, his voice cracking with excitement. "The champion is looking to put this match away!"

Cena waited in the center of the ring, watching Drew slowly stagger to his feet. As McIntyre turned around, Cena ducked under his arm, hauling the massive Scotsman onto his shoulders for the Attitude Adjustment.

But lifting a fresh, two hundred and sixty five pound brawler is entirely different from lifting a tired one. The damage Drew had inflicted on Cena's lower back early in the match came back to haunt the champion. Cena's knees buckled under the immense weight.

Drew sensed the weakness immediately. He threw a series of sharp, desperate elbows to the side of Cena's head, forcing the champion to drop him. As Cena stumbled forward, Drew grabbed him, locking his arms in a double underhook.

"Watch out!" JBL warned excitedly. "He's got the arms locked!"

With a feral roar, McIntyre lifted Cena and drove him face first into the canvas with a devastating, bone shattering Future Shock DDT!

The impact was sickening. Cena's body folded awkwardly, and he lay completely motionless on the mat.

The crowd gasped in unison.

Drew hooked the leg, wrapping his arm tightly around Cena's neck.

"ONE!"

"TWO!"

"THRE—NO!"

Cena's shoulder shot off the canvas at the absolute last possible millisecond. The Philips Arena exploded into a massive, collective sigh of relief and sheer disbelief.

"He kicked out!" Lawler screamed, clutching his headset. "How in the world did John Cena survive the Future Shock DDT?!"

"Because he is one of the greatest champions of all time, King!" Cole shouted proudly. "You have to practically kill John Cena to take his championship away!"

Drew rolled off the champion, a look of sheer, unadulterated shock frozen on his face. He stared at the referee, holding up three fingers, demanding an explanation. The official shook his head firmly, confirming it was only a two count.

The shock in Drew's eyes slowly morphed into a dark, murderous rage. He realized that traditional wrestling maneuvers were not going to be enough to keep the franchise player down. He needed to take the champion's head completely off.

Drew retreated to the corner of the ring. He leaned against the turnbuckles, his chest heaving, his eyes locked onto Cena's broken body. He began slapping his thigh, stomping his heavy boot on the canvas in a slow, rhythmic beat, signaling for his most devastating weapon.

"Three... Two... One..."

Cena slowly pushed himself up to his hands and knees, completely unaware of the danger closing in.

Drew exploded out of the corner, launching his massive frame into the air, swinging his heavy boot forward with maximum velocity for the catastrophic Claymore Kick.

But Cena's elite in ring awareness saved his title.

Sensing the incoming strike, Cena dropped flat onto his stomach at the exact right moment. Drew flew completely over him, crashing awkwardly onto his back in the center of the ring.

Before Drew could even process the miss, Cena scrambled to his feet. He grabbed McIntyre's leg, stepping through the massive limb, and violently locked in the STF submission hold!

The crowd lost their absolute minds!

"He's got it locked in!" Cole shrieked. "The STF is locked in dead center of the ring! Drew McIntyre has nowhere to go!"

Drew screamed in agony as Cena leaned back, applying excruciating pressure to the challenger's neck, back, and knee. Drew clawed frantically at the blue canvas, his eyes wide with panic. The ropes were miles away.

"Don't tap, Drew! Do not tap!" JBL begged from the desk, standing up from his chair.

Drew refused to quit. Operating purely on adrenaline and a burning hatred for the champion, Drew planted his hands on the mat. Inch by grueling inch, he dragged his massive frame forward. The sheer strength required to drag a two hundred and fifty pound man clinging to your back was unbelievable.

With one final, desperate lunge, Drew extended his arm, wrapping his fingers tightly around the bottom rope.

The referee instantly stepped in, forcefully counting to five, demanding Cena break the hold.

Cena let go at the count of four, collapsing backward onto the canvas, his chest heaving with sheer exhaustion. The match had crossed the twenty minute mark, and both men were operating on fumes.

Drew rolled out onto the ring apron, clutching his knee and his lower back, gasping for air.

Cena slowly pulled himself up using the ropes. He looked at the challenger on the apron. Knowing he couldn't afford to give Drew time to recover, Cena climbed out through the middle ropes, joining McIntyre on the hard, unforgiving edge of the ring.

Cena grabbed Drew, looking to deliver an Attitude Adjustment right on the apron, a move that would undoubtedly end the match.

But Drew fought back with everything he had. He delivered a heavy headbutt, a signature Glasgow Kiss, that caught Cena flush on the forehead. The sickening crack echoed through the arena. Cena's knees buckled, and he leaned back heavily against the ring post.

Drew wiped the sweat from his eyes. He looked down at the ringside floor, then looked up at the corner turnbuckle. A dark, reckless idea formed in the Psychopath's mind.

Drew grabbed Cena, hauling the dazed champion up the turnbuckles. Drew climbed up to the second rope, locking his arms around Cena's waist, looking to deliver an earth shattering superplex to the outside floor.

"Oh my god, no!" Lawler yelled in pure panic. "Don't do it! They'll both break their necks!"

Cena realized the extreme danger. He threw heavy, desperate right hands to the side of McIntyre's ribs. Smack! Smack!

Drew's grip loosened. Cena shifted his weight, sliding underneath the Scotsman, and trapped Drew between his legs on the top turnbuckle.

The crowd rose to their feet, realizing what Cena was attempting to do.

Cena slowly, agonizingly, climbed up to the second rope. He ducked his head under Drew's arm, hoisting the two hundred and sixty five pound monster onto his shoulders while balancing precariously high above the canvas.

"He's got him up!" Cole screamed, his voice cracking with sheer disbelief. "From the second rope! The sheer power!"

Drew threw frantic elbows, trying to escape, but Cena's grip was absolute. With a mighty, echoing roar, John Cena leaped off the second rope, driving Drew McIntyre violently into the canvas with a devastating, earth shattering Avalanche Attitude Adjustment!

The ring physically shook from the sheer force of the impact. Both men bounced off the mat, their bodies lying completely motionless in the wreckage.

The Philips Arena erupted into a deafening "HOLY SHIT!" chant that completely drowned out the broadcast commentary.

"What a move!" Lawler yelled over the noise, throwing his hands in the air. "Cena put it all on the line to keep his championship!"

It took Cena a full ten seconds to recover. He slowly rolled over, draping a heavy arm across McIntyre's chest.

The referee dropped to the mat.

"ONE!"

"TWO!"

"THREE!"

But the referee's hand never hit the mat for the third time.

At the absolute last possible millisecond, Drew McIntyre thrust his thick shoulder off the canvas, breaking the pinfall.

The crowd let out a massive, collective gasp of disbelief, clutching their heads in shock.

"HOW?!" Cole yelled, practically jumping over the announce desk. "How in the hell did Drew McIntyre kick out of a Super AA?! The man is not human!"

"He is the Scottish Psychopath!" JBL roared in triumph, a massive smile spreading across his face. "You cannot kill this man! He is an unstoppable force of nature, and he wants that United States Championship!"

Cena sat up, looking at the referee with wide, disbelieving eyes. He ran a hand over his face, shaking his head. He had thrown his absolute best weapon, a move that had put away legends and hall of famers, and the challenger simply refused to stay down.

But Cena was a veteran. He knew he couldn't let the frustration consume him. He looked at Drew's broken body and realized the impact of the Avalanche AA had done immense damage to the Scotsman's back.

Cena scrambled over, grabbing Drew's leg, and ruthlessly locked the STF right back in, dragging Drew into the dead center of the ring.

The crowd cheered, fully believing this was the end.

Drew screamed in absolute agony. The pressure on his damaged spine was unbearable. But the Psychopath refused to tap. He clawed at the mat, his eyes wide and bloodshot. Finding a reserve of strength fueled purely by rage and adrenaline, Drew planted his hands on the canvas.

He didn't crawl to the ropes this time. Instead, he violently twisted his body, rolling over and using his massive leg strength to forcefully kick Cena off him.

Cena tumbled backward, breaking the hold.

Both men scrambled to their feet simultaneously. They were running on pure instinct, operating long past the point of exhaustion.

Drew bounced off the ropes, building terrifying speed. He saw Cena turning around and launched himself into the air, fully intending to take Cena's head off with a final, desperate Claymore Kick.

But Cena was ready for it.

With incredible agility for a man his size, Cena sidestepped the attack at the absolute last millisecond. Drew flew past him, his heavy boot catching nothing but air. The momentum carried McIntyre violently forward, and he crashed terribly onto his injured back in the center of the ring.

Before Drew could even open his eyes, Cena pounced.

The champion dove onto the fallen challenger, immediately wrapping his thick arms around Drew's neck, trapping the leg, and violently locking the STF back in for the third time!

"He's got it again!" Cole shrieked. "Cena caught him! The STF is locked in tight, dead center of the ring!"

Drew was trapped. The physical toll of the Avalanche AA, the missed Claymore, and the grueling twenty five minute war had finally caught up to him. He screamed, fighting the hold, clawing desperately at Cena's forearms, but the champion's grip was like a steel vice.

"Don't tap, Drew! You are right there!" JBL pleaded, his voice laced with desperation.

Drew McIntyre's face turned a deep, frightening shade of purple. Saliva flew from his lips as he refused to give up his pride. He reached his hand out, blindly searching for the ropes, but they were impossibly far away.

Cena gritted his teeth, pulling back with everything he had left, maximizing the torque on the challenger's neck and back.

Drew's struggles began to slow. The frantic clawing turned into weak, uncoordinated swats. His eyes fluttered, rolling back in his head as the oxygen supply to his brain was completely cut off by the immense pressure.

His hand, once desperately reaching for salvation, slowly dropped to the canvas, completely limp.

The referee dropped to his knees, getting right in Drew's face. He grabbed McIntyre's arm, lifting it into the air, and let it go.

It dropped limply to the mat.

The referee didn't bother checking a second time. Seeing the challenger completely unresponsive, the official immediately waved for the bell.

DING! DING! DING!

The upbeat, triumphant horns of The Time is Now hit the stadium speakers, washing over a crowd that was giving both men a massive, well deserved standing ovation.

"He did it! John Cena did it!" Cole yelled, his voice rough with exhaustion. "Drew McIntyre never tapped out! He never quit! He simply passed out from the pain! John Cena retains the United States Championship in an absolute classic!"

"What an unbelievable war of attrition!" Lawler praised, applauding from the desk. "Drew McIntyre proved tonight that he is an absolute monster, an unstoppable force. But John Cena proved why he is the franchise! He found a way to survive!"

"Drew lost nothing tonight!" JBL argued passionately, though he couldn't hide the disappointment in his voice. "He didn't quit! He went out on his shield like a warrior! He pushed the greatest champion of this generation to the absolute limit!"

Inside the ring, Cena slowly released the hold, rolling off the unconscious challenger. The champion collapsed against the bottom rope, his chest heaving, his body covered in sweat and red welts.

The referee retrieved the star spangled United States Championship, bringing it into the ring. He handed the gold belt to Cena and raised the champion's arm in victory.

Cena accepted the title, holding it tightly against his chest. He looked exhausted, battered, and bruised, but a look of intense, quiet pride shone in his eyes. He slowly pushed himself up to a vertical base, holding the championship high above his head as the Atlanta crowd showered him with respect.

Cena looked down at the fallen body of Drew McIntyre. The Scottish Psychopath was just beginning to stir, medical personnel rushing into the ring to check on him. Even in defeat, Drew had proven that his dark, violent transformation made him one of the most dangerous men on the roster. The broadcast camera captured the iconic visual of John Cena standing tall, his championship secured after a legendary defense, while the shadow of a the psychopath monster loomed large over the future of the WWE.
