House Twelve met the bridge with a cupboard tied across its missing wall.
From Ty's cradle, one half of the city sat beneath him while the other crossed overhead on a second roadback. People walked on both. Their boots held to different streets, and neither group appeared interested in falling into the other's market.
The bridge between them had a floor only as far as its midpoint cage. Past that cage, the underside became the walking deck and continued toward the upper roadback.
Holl stopped the cradle at a blue rail. He checked the wrap around Ty's handless left arm, then pushed two fingers under the shoulder strap.
"The bridge may change direction, but this shoulder carries no load."
"My bones have heard worse advice from people carrying cleaner hooks."
Holl tightened the strap anyway. Todd's short piece of Nana's cord rested across Ty's ribs. Two links above the copper clasp, the white future call ring stayed cold near his jaw.
