Chapter 194 - Waking in the Light of Primara (193)

Aeron's words painted a picture in her mind—Atlas, his scales gleaming like diamonds, resting just outside the door, eyes fixed on her. It made her smile, even in her weakened state. "I can't wait to see him again. I hope he's not sulking."

"He might be a bit grumpy," Aeron teased, a light grin breaking through. "But he's also keeping watch, just like I promised. You'll be back on your feet soon. I know about that."

Starfania took a deep breath, finding comfort in their exchange. "Thank you, Aeron. For everything you've done."

The gratitude in her voice was sincere, each word weighed with meaning. He shrugged, trying to downplay it. "It's what friends do. Now, really try to rest. I'll bring Atlas in as soon as you're up."

With that, he stepped out, leaving her in a moment of quiet reflection. The soft sound of the door clicking shut brought a sense of solitude. She sank further into her pillows, imagining Atlas's familiar presence beside her. This thought alone gave her strength, fueling her resolve to heal and return to the life she knew, and to her beloved dragon.

The following morning, she awoke feeling refreshed, the throbbing pain that once haunted her head now completely gone. A wave of calm energy washed over her, and for the first time in what felt like ages, clarity filled her thoughts. Starfania welcomed the sunlight filtering softly through the windows, stretching gently as she took in the quiet serenity of the room. A quick glance to her side and Violet was no longer there. She assumed she had gone with her brother, Aeron. Letting out a soft sigh, she leaned back into the bed, allowing herself a brief moment of stillness. That's when she noticed Atlas resting peacefully on the floor near her bedside. His breathing slow and deep, blanketed the room with a tranquil aura. Her heart melted at the sight.

Rising slowly, she padded over him, crouching down beside his slumbering form.

" Thank you, " Starfania whispered, her fingers threading through his scales. " For saving me…for never leaving me. "

He let out a low, affectionate rumble in response and slowly opened one eye. As their gazes met, his tail gave a lazy wag before he rolled on his back, presenting his belly in the most shameless display of trust and happiness. A chuckle escaped Starfania lips as she indulged him, giving Atlas the belly scratches he clearly craved. Several peaceful minutes passed as she showered him with affection, her heart full from his quiet companionship. Eventually, she stood, brushing back a strand of hair.

" Come on, Atlas, " Starfania said with a smile. " Let's see if we can find the others. I need to stretch after resting for so long. And you probably want to stretch your wings as well. "
