"Hey Janet! Are you okay?"
Chris gently nudged Janet a few times. Janet, in a daze, sat up and glanced at Chris.
"Who are you... Are you here to get my contact?" Janet seemed to realize that the person beside her wasn't her familiar friend Peggy, blinked her eyes, and asked in a muddled tone.
Chris was taken aback. As one of the founders of S.H.I.E.L.D. and in some sense, the superior of Janet and Hank at S.H.I.E.L.D., he didn't expect Janet not to recognize him.
But upon reflection, it wasn't surprising. He had always been a figurehead, attending only a few high-level meetings, not really fulfilling his duties, just aiming to enjoy the privileges of S.H.I.E.L.D. in the future. He hadn't crossed paths with Janet and other members like her much.
With a change of mind, Chris had an idea: 'Yeah, I'm also drinking here. You have a nice aura. I thought I'd come over and make friends with you!'
Chris immediately showcased his playboy nature, looking at Janet 'sincerely.'
'Tch!'
Janet scoffed, showing disdain, but didn't refuse. After all, she had encountered such situations many times while going out.
'Care for a drink, beautiful?'
Chris picked up a glass of wine that Janet hadn't touched yet, waved it in front of her, and Janet glanced at it, then raised her own glass to clink, drank it down, and even shook her head afterwards.
Oh, getting dizzier and dizzier! Janet thought to herself.
Actually, Janet had previously rebuffed approaches from men trying to strike up conversations. So why didn't she refuse Chris? It was because she was feeling troubled and had come out to drink with Peggy to ease her inner turmoil. She just didn't expect Peggy to leave midway. However, this man wasn't bad, didn't make any inappropriate advances right away, seemed polite. Plus, he was quite handsome, had a good aura, and looked decently dressed. Sitting together and having a drink seemed harmless enough!
The main reason Janet came out for a drink was because she had noticed that recently Hank, who had been claiming to research subatomic particles that can increase or reduce mass as well as density and strength, had been interacting more frequently with a few female research assistants.
Initially, Janet thought their interactions were normal for research purposes. But recently, after accidentally getting hold of Hank's phone, she discovered that apart from research, Hank's private chats with these women were becoming more frequent and inappropriate. They even exchanged some dirty jokes and flirted with each other, which Janet couldn't tolerate.
However, due to the escalating Cold War and Hank's increased missions at S.H.I.E.L.D., he was practically living at the agency lately. Janet understood the situation but didn't confront Hank about it yet. The suppressed displeasure was starting to affect her mood more and more. That's why she had arranged to meet Peggy for a drink today.
Chris could sense that Janet wasn't in a great mood, the way she drank her alcohol with force, as if venting some emotions. But he wasn't curious about the specifics, only knowing that Janet needed an emotional outlet at this moment, and he had inadvertently found the best time to approach her. Moreover, she didn't recognize him and probably didn't have such a strong guard against him, thinking he wasn't part of S.H.I.E.L.D.
Looking at Janet's exquisite makeup and seductive appearance, accentuated by the alcohol, Chris envisioned what might happen if he succeeded, and a strong desire ignited within him."
