Chapter 1039 - Chapter 1039: Providence

The group pressed through a patch of forest before Coulson, staring at his coordinates, called out, "We're here."

"There should be something here."

"Stay alert. Keep your eyes open."

"There's definitely something nearby."

Triplett asked, "How long do we stay before heading back?"

Coulson, scanning the surroundings, replied, "We're not going back until we find whatever Fury wanted us to find."

Triplett pressed further, "What about the satellite?"

Coulson glanced at Triplett and responded firmly, "That doesn't matter. The Airbus used up all its fuel flying here."

Simmons froze at the revelation, her eyes wide with shock as she demanded, "You knew that before we flew to this desolate place?"

Turning to Fitz, Coulson said, "It was the right call."

"Fury gave us these coordinates for a reason."

May asked bluntly, "And what reason is that?"

Coulson, frustrated, admitted, "I don't know, May!"

"I don't know!"

"But there's something here!"

Holding up his S.H.I.E.L.D. badge, he continued, "This means something—it has to mean something!"

"The world needs us. Hydra is out there!"

"We can't let them win. We can't let them define who we are."

"Do you understand?"

Looking around at his team's doubtful expressions, Coulson raised his voice, "We're not nameless agents—we are S.H.I.E.L.D. agents!"

"That name still matters!"

"What we've been through—it mattered!"

The team exchanged uncertain glances but remained silent.

At that moment, Killer Bee, observing the area carefully, broke the tension, "Yo, listen up, fellas. I've found something off."

"Coulson wasn't wrong—there's a base here."

Everyone turned to him sharply, "Where?"

Fitz frowned and muttered, "That's impossible. My equipment hasn't detected anything."

Coulson, his hope reignited, asked eagerly, "Killer Bee, what did you find? Where is it?"

Killer Bee pointed toward a massive stone wall in the distance and explained, "With my sensing abilities, I can tell—it's hollow behind that."

"If it's a base, it'll have defenses."

Without hesitation, he picked up a rock from the ground and hurled it toward the stone wall.

Suddenly, a hidden machine gun turret popped out from beneath a nearby pine tree and opened fire, tearing into the rock.

"Rat-a-tat-tat!"

Seeing the turret spring to life, May shouted urgently, "Get down! Get down!"

"Take cover—now!"

However, after firing a few rounds at the rock Killer Bee had thrown, the machine gun stopped.

Fitz, hiding behind a boulder, exclaimed excitedly, "Looks like we found it!"

"Ha! I told you Coulson's instincts wouldn't be wrong!"

Simmons shot him a surprised glance, recalling how he'd been far less confident with her earlier.

Coulson observed the machine gun mechanism and said, "This is S.H.I.E.L.D. technology."

Triplett, skeptical, remarked, "Shoot first, ask questions later? Doesn't really seem like S.H.I.E.L.D.'s style."

Coulson replied firmly, "This isn't Hydra—it's Fury reaching out to us."

May, still cautious, added, "But we have no way to be sure of that."

Killer Bee offered, "Want me to take it apart? Won't even take two seconds."

Coulson shook his head, "No, I have a better idea."

With that, he stepped out from cover and faced the machine gun directly.

The gun aimed at Coulson but didn't fire. Instead, a voice echoed, "Identify yourself."

Coulson calmly responded, "Phil Coulson, Agent of S.H.I.E.L.D."

The gun barrel retracted, and the weapon system disappeared, "Welcome, Agent Coulson. We've been expecting you."

Suddenly, a hidden door in the rock wall slid open, revealing a passageway inside.

Coulson turned to his team with a smile, "See? I told you Fury gave us these coordinates for a reason."

With renewed confidence, he led the way inside. The team followed him into the concealed base.

Triplett, looking around curiously, asked, "What is this place?"

A man stepped forward to greet them and answered, "This is one of Fury's secret bases."

"I call it Providence, but officially, it doesn't have a name—because it doesn't officially exist."

"Follow me, everyone."

The group was led into a spacious room resembling a dining hall, "Nice place, isn't it?"

Coulson asked, "Sorry, but who are you exactly?"

The man smiled and introduced himself, "Eric Koenig, Level Six Agent of S.H.I.E.L.D."

He extended his hand.

"Phil Coulson," Koenig grinned excitedly.

"I know. I've heard all about you."

"It's an honor to meet you, Agent Coulson."

"Sorry about the entrance—the remote defense system is programmed to destroy anything moving too fast."

Turning to Killer Bee, he continued, "And you must be the Cloud ninja, Killer Bee, the team's special consultant."

"It's an honor to meet you—I've heard of ninja for years, but never thought I'd see one in person."

Killer Bee chuckled, "Oh, so you've heard my raps too?"

Koenig nodded enthusiastically, "Yeah, that's one of the few things that keeps me entertained. I've listened to every one of your songs dozens of times."

"When's your next album dropping? My friends and I can't wait."

Delighted, Killer Bee stepped closer and replied, "Ha! Next time I throw a concert, you'll have a front-row seat!"

Koenig gave a thumbs-up and turned back to Coulson, "I'll issue you a new badge shortly—it's your only way to move around here."

"As for the rest of your team, they'll each get one as well, in due time."
