Chapter 16 - Chapter 8 (Pt 2)

I had to ask. "How did you find out about me? I mean me being a girl."

In my mind I repeated all my interactions with this guy.

My arrival, which of course ended up resulting in my punishment. On the jogging tracks, the training area, sometimes in the mess, and recently in my room.

I didn't do anything that could tell about me being a girl, except for that kiss. But how can a kiss tell the difference between genders?

Can it?

"I'm not going to tell you unless you tell me your name." The general tried again.

Even if he doesn't tell me it doesn't matter, I am already caught. For the time being I can live without knowing this. Still, why? Why do we keep ending up on the 'What's your name' question?

Me once again, "What will you get by knowing my name?"

I'm literally tired of being asked this same damn question. I'm afraid to tell him my name for unknown reasons.

He opened his palm in front of me, a gesture of peace. "I won't hurt you. I won't tell anyone. I'm not your enemy. Now can you please tell me?"

I gave him a 'not telling' kind of expression.

He sighed.

"Then at least tell me, what sort of relationship do you have with that Rosen?" He had given up on the first question, only to backfire with the next.

Now this is a new question, and I know this shouldn't be asked either.

Of course not. I am not telling him my name, so why should I tell him this?

I've been hiding my identity for quite a lot of years, and I know now's not the time to reveal it.

"So, you're not going to tell me this either. Then let me guess." He's backing away...

Go ahead. Take your shot.

"Is he your boyfriend?" He quirked at me.

I really wanted to laugh at that guess.

When he said it, I noticed something in those dark eyes of his. I couldn't say exactly what it was, but I could have sworn I saw a brief flash of something there.

"Nope."

I simply shrugged.

That one little word was enough to make the flash disappear.

Wow.

So, if I answer a question the way he wants, he's perfectly fine. But the moment I say something he doesn't like, then out comes that intimidating glare.

I really wanted to roll my eyes at him.

Actually, let's test this.

Let's see what happens to that expression of his.

"What if I say he's my boyfriend?"

The flash returned to his eyes.

"Then I'll just kill him."

You dare.

He had just poked at the one place he absolutely shouldn't have. He had crossed a line.

"How dare you?" I snapped. "I'll kill you if you ever look at him with those intentions."

He seemed to struggle to find the right words, but I wasn't about to give him the chance to say a single one.

I had heard enough.

"Untie me. Now."

I shouted at him, and, surprisingly, he actually untied me.

The moment I was free, I pushed him away and ran, putting as much distance between us as I could.

How dare he say something like that right in front of me?

The thought alone made my blood boil. He had no right to talk about him like that, let alone threaten him while looking me straight in the eyes.

I didn't bother looking back.

I just kept running, needing to get as far away from him as possible before I said or did something I might regret.

"LOGAN" ------------------------------------------------------------------------

 What did I do?

Why did she glare at me like that?

She looked at me as if I had already killed that idiot, Bastard Rosen.

Still an unknown person, she remains.

Why is she so afraid of me that she still hasn't told me even her name?

District 1 had good relations with every district except District Ten. That was mostly because Father had told, or more accurately, fed everyone the story that District Ten had killed thirty of our innocent people.

District Ten had admitted to killing them, but they had never admitted that our people were innocent.

Soon afterward, District Ten announced that they wanted no war with any other district. It was meant to be a message of peace to everyone except us. They made it clear that they would not maintain any kind of relationship with District One.

And just like that, District Ten had declared itself an enemy of District One.

According to everything I had been told, the fault was theirs. They had killed our people first. We had only managed to kill one of theirs, someone we know almost nothing about.

If anything, I should have been the one hating her for what her district had done.

Yet here she was, looking at me as though I were the one responsible for everything.

The hatred in her eyes was intense. It wasn't ordinary anger, either. It went far deeper than that.

But even after knowing the entire story, I couldn't understand it.

This alone couldn't be the reason for that kind of hatred.

There had to be something else.

Something I didn't know.

Something that had happened long before we ever met.
