The next morning dawned with deceptive serenity. Sunlight streamed through my bedroom window, washing the walls in a warm golden glow. Birds chirped cheerfully outside, their bright songs clashing sharply with the turmoil still churning inside me.
I lay in bed for a long moment, staring at the ceiling, replaying my conversation of last night.
With a soft sigh, I pushed back the covers and swung my legs over the edge of the bed. The floor was cold beneath my feet, a bracing reminder that reality waited just beyond the fragile safety of my room.
I dressed quickly in a simple dress and wrapped my scarf around my shoulders. When I glanced at my reflection, the dark circles beneath my eyes stood out clearly. It was silent proof of too many sleepless nights.
