Each movement has a precursor and subsequent movement. When watching someone you subconsciously predict what's next. By "skipping" the movements in between, you can fool the perception of your opponent.
This is the unique fighting style of the 94th ranked, Klaren thought as he watched a fight between two players.
Saint Liment in his white armor was appearing and disappearing as he attacked. It was a simple but effective use of invisibility. A few corpses laid on the ground, a product of the fight between Klaren, Limen and players from a player guild.
Limen glowed with light green aura when he became visible. The player fighting Limen was the last surviving member of the enemy squad. Clad in red armor which was cracked, cut and broken in several places, the player was retreating from the merciless attacks of the top player.
Limen's white sword collided with the opponent's mace and it released a small visible shockwave. The swordsman leapt back, landed then took a step forward, went invisible and reappeared in front of the opponent, kicking him in the side, sending him away. The swordsman was sometimes stopped and parried even though he was seemingly blinking in and out existence in the other player's point of view. At the level of these two players, eyesight wasn't the always the best and primary sense in fighting.
But the main reason why the player in red armor received so many blows is due to the absurd, confusing and constant switch between using the sense of sight and the sense of aura to perceive the enemy who alternated between visibility and invisibility. It was very hard to keep up, but not impossible.
Limen's opponent deflected another blow and yelled, and in that instant, a dozen of bright small explosions in the air between them sent Limen backwards twenty meters. Before the light subsided, Limen dashed left, dodging a devastating blow to the head. He sent an aura slash so powerful and bright that Max's couldn't come close to comparing. The enemy deflected it and spun around, sending a massive and fast tornado of red aura at Limen who dashed again.
He was tracked by the mace wielder and was forced to dodge backwards to avoid a brutal impact, but as he retreated, a giant hammer made of green aura manifested in his left hand with which he struck right after barely dodging, once he planted his feet.
It hit the enemy and then Limen took a step forward. Right in that moment, he disappeared. His opponent retreated quickly, trying to delay the incoming attack as much as possible, to give his sense of aura enough time to adjust.
Then Limen reappeared again, in his white armor glowing green, before the mace wielder, who expected a melee strike. A burst of powerful green aura blasts hit the enemy and sent him flying. Aura attacks were especially effective against opponents with broken armor.
Shaken and disoriented, the last surviving player received a blow to his exposed left side from the invisible Saint. He responded with a mace strike to the head, which Limen dodged under and then stabbed the player's bare skin with a summoned aura blade in his left hand.
Limen dashed back and sent an aura slash which landed. The opponent, barely standing, roared and bolted towards the unharmed player. His glowing red mace aimed for brutal concussive strikes. Limen went invisible and clashed with the player. This went on for one more minute and the player in red armor toppled over, dead on the ground and drowning in his own blood.
Klaren watched this whole event. Limen had told him that he wanted to fight this player one on one, so he just sat back and relaxed.
"Good stuff," he said.
"Thanks. These scouts of Priam's, we didn't manage to extract information from them. The last guy was berserk."
"It's fine, their main objective are the ruins in the pillar desert. Whatever this is, it's not something worth worrying about," Klaren replied.
Limen nodded. "So, we'll make the NPCs go to war with the players? The countries?"
"Yeah, that's what we'll focus on now. What better way to fight the players than with the NPC armies and Transcendents? The ruins are where the Glecan church sealed a terror long ago, I heard. We'll report them to the church, and the rest will be taken care of. The investigation will happen. Countries might get involved, since most are under the influence of the church. Let them fight the world if they won't stop."
The two walked under blue trees, next to a small river on their left.
"You think Priam will be able to fight them?" Limen asked Klaren, who responded quickly.
"He won't be able to. Even if he could, the only person left standing in his guild would be him. Priam won't commit that far."
"At the very least, they'll stop and listen to the church's orders to prevent war," Limen said afterwards.
"Yeah, but they won't be able like that forever. Eventually they'll want to break out. Clear this floor. The players will ally against the NPCs and there will be an all out war. That's what we have to prepare for. I have a few ideas. We could unseal the terror in the middle of the war, if the NPCs start losing," said the guild master of Salvation.
"You know, we could also ally with some players and guilds that are passive. I know many who wouldn't mind staying in the game," Limen said with a yawn. "But we make a good team Klaren, I have a feeling we can do this. Heaven is here and now, and we'll keep it that way."
"I appreciate you, Saint. You're the one of the best gifts I've received in my miserable life."
"Thanks. Hopefully, we'll both get more in this God's gift of a game."
"Amen," said Klaren with a slight smile. "I have a kid on the way. My girl's pregnant."
Limen chuckled. "Now you have another reason to keep fighting. Congrats brother."
