In exchange for more detailed information about the North, they gave temporary increases in northern people's purchase limits or contribution points, depending on their preferences. Alterran goods were universally seen as superior products, and there was no loss in hoarding any of them.
Doing this had several layers of advantages for Alterra. They gathered information using these products, which had a very high selling value while costing them only a bit of money.
