A staff glowed, light spreading into his veins. The boy gasped, still alive thanks to the brooch barrier that had stopped the venom from reaching his heart.
The healer's hands trembled. All around her, students staggered in with burns, gashes, roots sticking from their flesh.
"It's so cruel. Aren't they going a bit too far?"
A senior medical staff member heard her murmur and patted her shoulder.
"Rookie, just get used to it. This is the world's top academy, from which the true elite fighters emerge. Weak can't survive here."
