On this nameless mountain peak, Terrance released all of his Pokémon.
Altaria, Arcanine, Gallade, Castform, Carbink, Vulpix, and Pupitar.
The seven Pokémon, without Terrance giving any specific orders, each began doing their own thing.
Altaria flew to a rock, slowly landed, and closed its eyes. It looked as though it were asleep, but around it, one could clearly see the faint glow of Fairy Aura radiating outward.
Although it appeared to be resting, Altaria was in fact constantly training its control over Fairy Aura and life energy.
As the Fairy Aura spread, Carbink and Little Vulpix ran to Altaria's side. Bathed in the Fairy Aura, they began to relax comfortably, but after enjoying it for a short while, the two Pokémon didn't dare waste such a good opportunity, and quickly threw themselves into training.
As for Arcanine, it teamed up with Gallade. One charged, the other struck back with its blade; their back-and-forth was also a form of training.
Meanwhile, Castform stood nearby, instructing the newly evolved Pupitar on how to use air currents to control sandstorm, combining the two perfectly.
"All that's left now is to wait for nightfall."
Terrance looked up at the sky. It was still a while before dusk. With nothing else to do, he picked up a few books and began to read.
At the same time, Rotom Pokédex and Troy began their "treasure-hunting" journey.
Giving Troy the directions on how to train Toxic was Terrance's way of tempering him.
While gathering herbs, there were two goals: first, to improve Troy's teamwork with Beedrill and deepen their bond; second, to continue observing Troy's behaviour through his every word and action.
"Judging by the soil on this mountain, there's a good chance we'll find white snakeroot, Roto," said the Rotom Pokédex.
"White snakeroot…" Troy said, "Is that the long white plant that looks kind of like a white Ekans?"
Rotom Pokédex nodded.
Troy swallowed nervously! Smack! The Rotom Pokédex hit him lightly on the head.
"When entering the wild, always release your Pokémon to accompany you. That's the best way to ensure your safety!"
"Ah, I understand, Teacher Rotom!" Troy was startled, then quickly responded, releasing Beedrill to follow at his side.
"Teacher Rotom, what should we do next?"
"Don't ask me everything, figure it out yourself."
Following Terrance's instructions, the Rotom Pokédex had now taken on the role of a strict teacher, never missing a chance to correct Troy's mistakes.
Fortunately, Troy reacted quickly. He was able to correct himself right away whenever reminded, so they didn't waste much time on the way.
As they continued, guided by the Rotom Pokédex, Troy grew more and more impressed by this "Teacher Rotom." In just a short walk, he had already learned so much knowledge that could never be found in books.
If only he'd had such a knowledgeable teacher since childhood, he might already be an excellent Trainer by now…
Troy thought to himself.
"Teacher Rotom, are you also a Pokémon?"
After walking for a while, Troy couldn't help but ask out of curiosity.
"To be precise, I am a fusion of Pokémon and technology. But at my core, I am the Pokémon Rotom." The Rotom Pokédex floated upward, looking at him. "Do you know what kind of Pokémon Rotom is?"
"No, I don't." Troy shook his head blankly.
With an expression that said "just as I thought," the Rotom Pokédex bared its teeth and its screen began to shine.
"Listen carefully, Rotom, an Electric and Ghost-type Plasma Pokémon has the special ability to travel through electrical appliances as ions! And I am the strongest Pokédex, formed by the fusion of a Pokédex and Rotom, Roto!" Rotom Pokédex laughed wildly.
"A fusion of Pokémon and Pokédex… the strongest Pokédex?" Troy was stunned, suddenly realizing how little he actually knew about the world.
No wonder… no wonder he couldn't last even a single move against Mr. Gym Leader. He really is an incredible Trainer. To think he even possessed the strongest Pokédex! He had never even heard of such a thing.
"Teacher Rotom, Mr. Gym Leader must be a very powerful Trainer, right?" Troy asked eagerly.
"Powerful…" Rotom Pokédex fell into thought, unsure of how to answer him.
After hesitating for a moment, Rotom Pokédex shook its head and said, "He is extremely powerful. If you could become even one-tenth as strong as Terrance, you'd be able to win the Indigo Plateau Conference."
"So, you need to take things more seriously and train harder, Roto."
Startled, Troy immediately nodded. But then his eyes flashed, and he suddenly pointed ahead. "Teacher Rotom, look, isn't that white snakeroot?"
Not far off at the edge of a cliff, a branch jutted from the rock wall, with several loops of white vine coiled tightly around it. Troy examined it carefully. It looked exactly like the white snakeroot he remembered.
Rotom Pokédex observed it carefully and immediately used its camera function to analyse it, then quickly reached a conclusion.
"It is white snakeroot. Let's go, Roto."
With that, Rotom Pokédex flew forward first, and Troy and Beedrill followed closely behind.
The white snakeroot grew on the cliffside and was quite difficult to pick. Rotom Pokédex made no move to help, instead hovering nearby to "watch the show." After thinking for a moment, Troy decided to rely on Beedrill's assistance.
"Beedrill, use your stingers to cut through the spot where the white snakeroot connects to the branch, but make sure not to damage the branch," Troy ordered.
Since Beedrill could fly, it easily reached the plant. After flying to the location of the white snakeroot, it carefully severed the white snakeroot and wrapped it around its twin stingers.
After a short while, only a bare branch was left.
"Teacher Rotom, if I remember correctly, as long as the branch isn't damaged, the white snakeroot will regrow later, right?" Troy asked.
"That's correct, Roto," Rotom Pokédex nodded.
"That's good. I think white snakeroot has detoxifying properties, it might be useful for helping other Pokémon someday." Troy tapped his head. "Glad I remembered that right."
"This kid…"
Rotom Pokédex was slightly taken aback. It had only given Troy a brief overview of thirteen types of plants, yet he'd not only remembered their names and appearances, but even remembered some of their medicinal effects… His mind really was sharp.
"All right, let's go to the next location."
Rotom Pokédex shook its head; perhaps it was just a coincidence! As soon as Beedrill flew over, the Rotom Pokédex immediately spoke up, intending to assess him through another method.
"Yes!" Troy replied.
From then on, Troy and Beedrill carefully searched the mountain for those thirteen special plants. Rotom Pokédex followed them, both guiding and secretly recording their performance for Terrance. It wasn't until evening approached that Troy and Rotom Pokédex finally returned to Terrance's side.
"How did it go?"
Terrance asked when he saw Troy return.
"Mr. Gym Leader, I found two kinds of plants, but it was thanks to Teacher Rotom and Beedrill that I could pick them," Troy replied. Both plants were growing in dangerous, hidden spots; without Beedrill's ability to fly, he might not have been able to retrieve them.
"Two, huh? That's not bad." Terrance nodded, then looked at Troy and Rotom Pokédex. "Since you're back, it's time for the main event."
Main event?
Troy blinked in confusion, until he followed Terrance's gaze.
It was the full moon.
Terrance had mentioned before that there would be a full moon tonight.
