As the moon's light entered through the windows and cast my shadow against the wooden door. There was someone knocking incessantly on my door, they would knock three times before pausing and then continuing again.
I looked through the peephole and saw Lilith staring at me through the peephole.
"Hey! I know you are awake open up!"
I opened the door and once I did she started complaining about how l long I kept a lady waiting. She told me that the reason she had come this late at night was due to she sensed malice.
When I asked her what she meant by malice she simply shrugged me off and said that human malice leaves a indistinguishable terrible aftertaste in her mouth.
She insisted on staying in my room for tonight and sat down on my comfy sofa and took out a bottle of wine she had stashed in her clothes.
I tried to shoo her off telling her that she shouldn't be in the same room as a stranger.
"My, are you gonna try something on me?"
She pulled her body back in sarcasm and covered her chest with her arms.
"Kyaa~ please I'm just a pure innocent little girl, don't hurt me," she looked up at me and opened one eye trying to see my reaction.
She pouted as she saw my tired face which didn't care for her sarcasm.
"How do I know that you won't pull anything will I sleep?"
She puckered her lips and suggested a contract. A soul binding contract that would punish the one who broke it.
"I won't bother you or hurt you in any way or form. As for your contract you just need to do what you usually do at night. I will just stay in your room."
"No. I'm not having a stranger be in the same room as me while I sleep."
She sighed heavily and cracked open the wine bottle and started to chug it.
She wiped off droplets of booze from her lips before telling me that someone had been assigned to assassinate me. And how she knew that it was gonna be today was due to the bloodlust she tasted in the air. Her face flushed red as she continued downing her wine that was halfway finished.
"As — yuwour guiedee I neewd two tafe care of you!"
Was it someone from the Fivindus that wanted me dead? Rei? Etros? I didn't know, Etros wouldn't kill someone who had connections to Devina casually.
I looked at the girl who was hiccuping and eyes drooping as if she was going to fall asleep any second. Was she really gonna protect me while I slept? This drunkard?
The clock struck 2 am and I continued to stand in front of Lilith who smiling at me as she chugged down the rest of the bottle.
"You wanna know something?" She said slurring.
"What is it now?"
"Taadaaa…" she presented another bottle of wine that she had stolen.
"Fine, if the only thing you gonna do is sit there and drink booze then I can accept your contract."
I was too sleepy to even care anymore and I sensed no malice from her. When I used my eye to look at the color of her soul, it was a pulsating purple flame. This contract, I learned from school that these punishes your soul if you break the legal contract. I sighed the contract she had pulled out and she softly laughed.
"Fu Fu… finally made up your mind?"
I went back to bed without saying anything to her and threw my blanket over me. When I occasionally peeked up from the covers I could see her peacefully doozing off. So much for being a guide.
My eyes closed as exhaustion crept in with every moment I stayed awake.
The morning sun shone through the blinds and made me wake up. I stretched and yawned and looked around to see where Lilith was. She wasn't on the comforty chair and all of her alcohol bottles were gone.
When I opened the door to go get some breakfast Lilith was standing patiently with her hands behind her back.
"Did you sleep well?" She asked smiling.
"I was too tired to even remember. Did that assassin or whatever you said come to try kill me?"
"That isn't a concern anymore, you don't need to worry," she said smiling enthusiastically.
She was probably just saying that to earn my trust. We walked together to the restaurant where I ordered breakfast and she just sat there watching me eat my food. With her chin resting on the palms of her hand and her head swaying back and forth she asked me if I was enjoying my stay.
"Asides from all the weirdos I have met then yes."
"Fu Fu… surely you don't consider me in that batch of people?"
"I do."
"Aughh, my heart! My delicate and fragile heart has been fractured by your harsh remarks," she said dramatically.
"Say Lilith, what is with the Yunestra family and Fivindus family."
"You want me to spill the secrets to my family and my contractual family? Such a bold request, surely you have something in return for that information?"
"What do you want then?"
"Hmm. How about a word of gratitude first, for watching over you all night. Then I want you to go challenge Rei to a battle and beat her."
"Uhm… why specifically Rei?"
"No reason at all."
"So, you willing to accept these terms?"
I thought about how Rei have been treating me and the terrible reception I got from her and Lukas. It would be my way of revenge on those two. But after watching Lukas' fight with Rayel I was kinda hesitant to fight any of these guys.
"My, you aren't thinking that they are too strong are you?" Lilith egged on me.
"Don't worry, I will personally let you train with me. fu fu fu."
Well as long as it was a friendly spar then I had nothing to lose. The worst that could happen was that I got my ass whooped. If I manage to win not only will she tell me information about the Fivindus family but also the Yunestra family.
I accepted her terms and she beamed with excitement.
"Firstly, I expect the most sincere and heartfelt compliments for guarding you while you were most vulnerable."
"Thank you for watching over me."
She pouted and told me to say it again with more feeling.
"Thank you Lilith for watching over me sleep."
"Not like that! Put your heart in it!"
"O great Lilith, girl of Nihility, I gratefully thank you for your presence and helping me get a good night of sleep."
"That's more like it." She booped my nose and then told me it is time for her special training lessons to beat Rei without breaking a sweat.
