With the supplies I gathered being a good start to keep us going for a few days, especially with the water I collected. I gave Nora one of the rifles while she handed me back her other pistol so she could keep the Cryolater on her side while keeping the rifle on her back.
"So you guys should head down to Concord, Nora if anyone had seen the people who took Shaune then they would have gone through Concord at the very least." Codsworth spoke and I saw how Nora nodded before stilling and speaking softly.
"Good, thank you Codsworth. I need you to stay here and try to fix the house up if you can. I will need somewhere safe to bring Shaun back after all."
The machine saluted in agreement with it saying proudly. "Of course madam! I will get right on it and with you here and having given approval I will render down the metal of the collapsed houses and make new walls for our old house!"
With that Nora gave Codsworth a pat on its metal body before she turned around and looked at me before saying. "Alright Jake, I suggest we get going. We don't want to burn whatever daylight we have left."
I gave a nod of agreement and followed behind Nora as we began walking towards the end of the subdivision that would be known as Sanctuary in the future and we remained silent, mostly just keeping an eye out in the surroundings until like fifteen minutes later once we hit the Red Rocket gas station I began looking around.
As I wanted to meet the bestest boy Dog Meat. And as we came around the back of the gas station, I asked aloud. "Should we loot the gas station to look for supplies?"
To which Nora shook her head and said firmly. "Its a good idea... But right now we don't even have a backpack beyond that golf caddie and beyond some gun repair tools if this world is as bad as half the apocalypse novels and movies I am sure we have both seen. Then we need to be traveling light beside the supplies."
I shrugged but then a loud woof rang out and I looked over to the side and saw him.
A large German Shepard mix maybe slowly walked over to us and I saw Nora palming her Cryolater as the dog came closer. But I held out a hand towards the dog I remembered from the game and whispered in a baby voice.
"Ohhh who's a good boy, you the goodest boy." And I saw Dog Meat pause, as he looked between me and Nora and then I saw a smile break across his canine face as he trotted over to me and I let him smell my hand before I went right for the money shot.
Giving some firm pats on the lower half of Dog Meats' back that made crisp patting noises with Dog Meat giving a happy sharp bark as he spun around to seek my hand to place back there when I went to scratch behind his ears.
"Alright Jake, we gotta move." Nora said with fond amusement and looking at the dog I tilted my head to the side and said.
"Alright... But I am naming you Buttercup."
I heard Nora groan as I stood back up with her muttering. "Don't get attached Jake... It has to have like. Literally all the fleas after living out in the wild."
But I only shrugged and followed beside Nora with the woman giving a sigh of exasperation as Buttercup followed right beside me as we continued walking.
And I was reminded all too quick that this world was a good deal bigger than the game was, as Concord was a couple of miles away from Sanctuary. Which meant that it was going to be a good forty-five-minute walk with how we were carrying a good bit of weight on us.
But eventually, we made it to Concord... Well, we realized we were getting all to close when the sounds of gunfire began which meant that we would be running into the events of the Minutemen's last stand with their leader Preston Garvey.
Who was trying to resist the bandit gang who were trying to capture the group's weird old grandma who was a seer basically when you hopped her up on meth.
"Sooo... I assume the guy with a laser rifle is a good guy with how he is wearing a military uniform and the psychos in rusted armor with literal skulls mounted on spikes are bad guys." I said with a drawl.
Nora gave a calm 'Uhuh' in agreement before she said coldly. "We are going to clear this building that's uphill and has an overview of the surroundings, I saw there was a roof access while we were making our way here. Once we get on top of the building we can take out the other rooftop snipers with our superior position."
I nodded and as we came to the building I saw it was already well looted at this point with nothing but a mess and rotten... Well, everything being in here. But either way, the building was a sort of townhouse with four bedrooms that people once probably rented and after getting to the third floor Nora broke open a window to the fire escape and then we quickly made our way to the top of the building.
And through the sounds of chaotic gunfire Nora shouted. "Go for the other rooftops alright?"
I nodded and then after a moment of thought I ripped a piece of some socks I collected and pushed the cloth into my ears to shield them as I quickly took off the scope off the rifle And then myself on my knees and the rifle properly held against my shoulder. I lined up the shot with the iron sights.
As I knew that fucking scope hadn't been sighted in, for literally centuries. But I focused in on a raider who was literally wearing armor that was spray painted orange and following all the knowledge I had of hunting I squeezed the trigger as I hit the raider that was only some twenty-five yards probably on another rooftop.
The rifle went off with a loud bang and my shot which I followed the logic of aim small, miss small, was right on the money as I was aiming directly for the middle black buttons on his chest plate of metal he was wearing.
And I saw a splash of red gore shoot out his front as the thin metal plates he had across his back and chest only made the bullet spin wildly inside his body before exiting out his front plate.
I pulled back the action lever shooting out the casing and I snapped it back forward with myself bringing the gun back up as I saw the Raider's obviously wondering what the hell was with the bigger caliber gun shooting.
But then Nora shot and I saw a raider's head fucking explode like a watermelon that had a firework stuffed into it.
And then the Raiders on the other rooftops pulled away from the edges where they were shooting at the main Concord museum building where Preston Garvey and his survivors were held up.
'Fucking christ... Nora, has VAT's doesn't she?' I mused as Nora without missing a fucking beat snapped the rifle's action, back, readied a new round, and with only two seconds to acquire another target, another head literally exploded basically.
'Wait... I know Nora is a badass who was in the war, but besides being in Power Armor, what else did she do?' I thought before remembering Nora mentioning how she used to raid the bunkers of the enemies to get their supplies.
To begin with, there were only six raider's on the rooftops and before they had even realized it we had killed half of them by the time I sighted in on another and took him out with another upper chest shot. Nora killed another with what looked like a neck shot and then Nora pulled her 10MM pistol and with a three-round burst she nailed another that was like thirty meters away making him fall off the building and hit the ground like three stories below.
"Fucking christ Nora. It's not like we made a bet or anything." I muttered with Nora calmly putting another five rounds of 308 into her rifle before she shouldered it.
"We are going into the streets on the side, stay behind me. We are going for the guy I shot with the pistol he had a shotgun I want." Nora said calmly.
And so we quickly made our way down the fire-escape with us looping around the side of the town square and entering the alley where the guy who was taking potshots into the windows of the museum had fallen.
I swallowed down some bile seeing the man whimpering on the ground as he covered his bleeding guts with one hand... And the other was shaking over his leg, the leg that had thumb-sized splinters of bone piercing through his skin and leaking blood.
"Please... Ple-" Without a word Nora silenced the man by stomping on his throat and then she slammed the small bayonet spike of her rifle through his eye socket.
'So this is a Fallout character who slaughters everything in their path.' I thought as I held in my reaction as Nora picked up the trench shotgun from where it had thankfully landed on a tire which broke its fall on its softer rubber.
"Twelve gauge, Slam fire. Can you use it Jake?" Nora asked and I smiled wryly.
"Give me the war crime stick Nora." I said putting my pistol into my side holster as I bent over and grabbed a bag... That looked like it was fucking made out of human skin that was filled with shotgun shells.
With the aforementioned war crime stick of a shotgun in hand I held it upside down and quickly loaded up the undercarriage before cocking it and getting ready.
"We are going to suppress the main road and then we will push into the museum, on the count of three... You ready?" Nora spoke.
I nodded while I honestly was thinking. 'Holy shit, she has gone full ptsd mode and is thinking I am one of her soldiers or something.'
And with that she verbally counted down as she pulled out two of the 10MM pistols and then as we sprinted outwards she sprayed down the road with all the bandit raiders hunching over as the quick spray of rounds shot over their heads.
But in the five seconds, they hunched over... We had run with Buttercup following us inside the museum though I had to ignore the laser rifle near the front door as the sounds of bullets began to be shot in our general direction.
Once we were inside the museum I pulled us sideways as the second floor had more raiders in there and there were open staircases where they could see us.
And they did see us as I heard a man with a raw voice yell. "More guys incoming! Watch the stairs!" But then that same voice screamed as a laser shot out from another window upstairs where I imagine Preston nailed the bastard.
"Ok... Time for the war crime stick." I muttered with a quick inhale as I was already feeling a bit winded with all the excitement.
