Slaying the Three Corpses is a step that the Immortal of the Eastern Universe must complete before becoming a Saint.
What is referred to as the Three Corpses in the culture of the Eastern Universe are actually the Three Corpse Bugs.
The Upper Corpse Peng Ju loves treasures, residing in the brain palace; the Middle Corpse Peng Zhi loves flavors, residing in the reception hall; the Lower Corpse Peng Jiao loves lust, residing in the stomach.
The three together are called "Peng Corpse," also known as the three worms, Three Peng, with the names Qing Gu, Bai Gu, and Blood Gu.
Immortals believe these Three Corpse Bugs are the source of all worldly desires and the embodiment of the three great evil thoughts: greed, anger, and ignorance. As long as the Three Corpse Bugs remain, one cannot escape desire and thus cannot attain true Great Ease and Great Freedom, nor become an exceptional Saint.
