"The rumours are flying that she's going to be named the next Branch Director," Jax whispered, looking dejected. "If that happens, this city is going to become a police state. She's arrogant, she's ruthless, and she hates anyone she considers 'low-tier.'"
The idea of Elissa sitting in the Director's chair made Thomas want to vomit. It was the worst possible outcome. If she took control, any chance he had of using the power vacuum to his advantage would be scrutinised by a woman who looked at people like him as insects.
"But here's the kicker," Jax added, nudging him. "Because her department is intact, she isn't hiring. The Villain Hunter department—the one everyone usually fights to get into because of the high pay and the status—is closed for business. All the survivors who were hoping to 'level up' in the wake of the disaster are crushed. Their luck is as bad as mine."
