The farther they walked into the market, the more crowded the streets became.
Kui had thought the little town looked charming when they arrived that morning, but now that everyone was awake, it seemed like an entirely different place. Nearly every house had been decorated for the celebration.
Long ribbons in red, pink, and gold were tied around wooden pillars and stretched between rooftops, fluttering whenever the wind swept through the narrow streets. Some families had hung small bells beneath their eaves, and their soft chiming mixed with the music coming from the center of town.
There were flowers everywhere too. Fresh branches covered in tiny blossoms had been tied beside doorways, while small woven baskets filled with petals sat outside many homes.
