The soft, unexpected voice from the tent entrance drew every man's attention.
It belonged to the commander's young wife, now standing at the flap, her usually gentle features set in rare severity.
She stepped forward despite the weight of their stares. Having overheard enough of their heated debate, she had rushed in—fearful of the innocent lives that might soon be condemned.
"My lady, what are you doing here?" Eli asked, rising to his feet.
As a civilian, she had no place in a military council, nor any authority to interfere in matters of command.
"I have something crucial to tell you!" Anna declared, moving towards the table.
"You shouldn't be here, my lady," Damon said firmly. "Please return to your tent. I'll escort you back."
He rose swiftly, and in just a few large strides, he was already in front of her, blocking her path.
"No—wait! Hear me first! I have a suggestion that could help!" she insisted.
