Benedict was waiting for the weekend to go out for his wand. Initially, he had bypassed his magic using tome magic to get a similar effect to that of this world's magic.
Tome magic was easy to remember as their spell had a self-explaining effect, which gave him an edge along with his abundant magicka. Also however fluent he had been in Latin and English, those languages remained of foreign nature.
But this world's magic is more versatile, as each effect had a lot of ways to be achieved, and each different way of achieving that effect held different properties.
For example, Tome magic had destruction-fire, now Benedict had not been a proper mage per se in his previous life, but he knew that magicka-powered fire magic had the same properties as common fire known to man, the spells just controlled the shape, and size or the range of the attack.
While there, the fire could be conjured by the ways of transfiguration sub-topic conjuration, there is floo powder-powered fire which doesn't seem to harm the user but is capable of transportation, there is dark magic powered Fienfyre and potion which "make fire", different from those of the likes of flammable liquid.
Their versatility had roped Ben in to learn the subjects being taught and till now he had been excelling, with the Want being factor in his magic studies.
