Chapter 24 - chap 24

Finally, sorry for the long wait (for those who were asking about this fanfic), but I had some trouble to deal with.

Now, enjoy!

Forks — 30 Miles West Road

Three men and three women appeared out of nowhere, glancing around at their surroundings.

"Finally, we're here," said a tall, white-haired man with sky-blue eyes, grinning.

Leo breathed in the crisp forest air, the scent of pine and rain tickling his nose.

The smile soon turned into a frown—not just on his face, but on the others' as well.

For two reasons.

First, the natural forest air was mixed with a faint, rotten smell.

Second, all of them felt their clan tattoos begin to shine with a blinding light.

"Sonia, what's going on?" Leo asked as the glow intensified. He felt oddly restrained.

"The tattoos had another function," Sonia replied. "They conceal and withhold your power, adjusting it to a level acceptable to the current universe."

Meaning they possessed power far beyond what this world's rules could withstand, so restrictions were imposed.

"So… we get nerfed?" Leo murmured with a sigh.

Looking around, the rest were already aligned with his thoughts. They could sense what was happening.

"But that doesn't make sense," Leo said, turning back to Sonia. "I originate from this world, right? I existed here before being sealed."

"Origin does not mean belonging," Sonia answered calmly. "And even if it did, the strength you accumulated in the Ancient Forest placed you on a tier higher than this world's consciousness itself."

Leo may have spent his years sealed away, but simply existing there had been like standing inside a strengthening capsule.

By the time he exited the forest, he was already strong enough to erase his past self from existence with a sneeze.

"We'll figure it out later," he said, shaking the questions aside as he turned to the group.

"Let's head to the house first."

After checking the vicinity, they summoned their vehicles and sped toward Forks' main town.

Along the way, Leo began to see strange threads in his vision—red and golden lines floating through the air. One of them was wrapped around his pinky, stretching from him all the way to the horizon, not far from Forks.

Realizing what they were, he concentrated harder—and, to his surprise, more and more floating threads appeared across the sky.

After figuring out how to trace them, he began following his family's thread of fate.

The Thread of Fate was an ability he had gained after completing the Ancient Forest mission. Now, he finally understood what it truly meant for.

Simply put, it allowed him to see fate threads—or fated partners.

"Hey guys, you'll find this surprising," Leo said with a smirk over the comms while riding in his vehicle. "I can see mate connections."

"Eh? Really?" one of the twins exclaimed as Ruby pulled her bike up beside Leo's car.

"Can you see ours?" Lapis asked from her back seat.

"Yeah," Leo replied. "Except for me, you two, and the old man—we're linked to space itself."

Viola and Kali, on the other hand, had small golden chains linked around their wrists.

"Also, get back in your lane," Leo added, glancing at the twin riding beside his car. "This world has rules too, you know."

After reminding the twins to slow down, Leo continued explaining.

"What I see are red threads floating in the sky, their ends stretching in different directions. Mine heads toward the horizon," Leo said. "Same for the Mishif cats—but the old man's thread breaks into space not far from here."

"So his mate is back in the forest?" Kali concluded, recalling how he had met Viola.

"Not necessarily the Ancient Forest," Leo said. "But yeah—that's the gist of it."

The sudden silence that followed spoke volumes.

"You mean there are dimensions like ours out there?" Viola asked, just to be sure of their guess.

"Not only that," Leo replied. "Other worlds exist, too."

That revelation truly shocked them, but it also stirred something exciting inside.

"Now this is interesting," Flint piped up. "Can we visit them somehow?"

The question surprised even Leo—let alone the rest. After all, the dwarf wasn't usually the adventurous type.

"We'll figure that out later," Leo said, then added with a raised brow, "but honestly, you were the last person I expected to ask that."

Before Flint could defend himself, the others beat him to the teasing.

"He's probably after alcohol," Kali snorted.

"True," the others said in unison.

"Hey!" Flint protested. "Just because I want to test other worlds' drinks doesn't mean it's my main goal!"

His drunken-sounding rebuke earned laughter from the rest as they finally reached the entrance to Forks.

By the time they entered the main streets of their new town, they were stopped by a police car.

"Good morning, sir. How can I help you?" Leo asked, stepping out of the lead vehicle.

He knew it wasn't about speeding—he had been well within the limit.

"Just a routine check," the officer said. "Not every day you see a parade like this in such a small town."

He looked Leo over with clear surprise. His height alone was unusual, let alone his well-trained physique and the clearly customized giant car he was driving.

"New in town, I presume?" the officer asked, noticing the packed back seat.

"Actually, yes," Leo replied, recognizing the man. He handed over a paper with an address.

"This should be our new address. From the instructions I received, it shouldn't be far. Could you verify it for me?"

"Hm." The officer read it, then nodded. "Looks like we'll be neighbors. Nice to meet you—Charlie Swan, current chief of police."

"Nice to meet you, Officer," Leo said. "Alexander Ragheart. Just call me Alexander."

Leo had changed his name and hair color to black while driving, just to avoid unwanted attention. After all, there were still some old bastards alive who might recognize him.

"Take a right turn and keep going," Charlie said, pointing. "Your workers did a brilliant job—you'll recognize the house right away. I'm actually next door, so I guess I'll see you later."

After a few pleasantries, Charlie returned to his car and drove off.

Leo was mildly confused by the man's curiosity, but he let it go and continued toward the house.

Surprisingly, despite being in such a remote area, the house was—by far—the best he had ever seen. Ancient Forest included.

After inspecting the house and assigning rooms, the family gathered once more in the living room.

"So, what happened?" Kale asked. "I did a quick check on myself. I can still shift into half and full forms, but my magic and shadow control are restricted to basic energy and elemental manipulation."

Kali nodded, explaining his own condition. Judging by the others' expressions, they all felt the same.

"Yeah," Leo sighed. "Apparently, we're too strong for this world to let us roam freely."

"Also," Viola said, looking around as she searched for the right word, "is it just me, or does the air feel… disgusting?"

"I find this world itself strange," Flint said, taking a sip from his bottle. "It feels… dirty. I didn't notice it at first, but now I can literally sense the rot in the air and soil."

"Right," Viola said thoughtfully. "Like corpses buried all around the place."

She didn't realize how close she was to the truth.

"Well, we do have walking corpses as neighbors," Leo said dryly.

"So we've got shapeshifters and sparkling walking corpses that feed on blood?" Ruby said excitedly.

"I want to meet them!" Lapis added eagerly.

"Yeah, me too—but before that," Leo said, turning to Kali, "call Loyed. Have his clan run an investigation on this world. Something doesn't feel right."

"Noted," Kali replied. "So what do we do now?"

"What do you mean?" Leo raised a brow, as if Kali expected him to change how they acted from now on.

"Not that," Kali sighed, rubbing his temples. "What do we do in this world?"

Knowing Leo, Kali was sure he would definitely go after those who had sealed him—if they were still alive.

"For now, we wait for Loyed's report," Leo said, standing up.

"You all start work tomorrow. I've got to take the girls to school, so go get some rest."

Groans followed.

"Hey, don't growl at me," Leo added. "I've got a mountain of paperwork waiting in my office. You're welcome to help if you don't want to rest."

At the word paperwork, everyone except Leo vanished on the spot.

Leo went to his office and started processing the stacks waiting for him.

Despite the background being magically constructed, he still had to deal with seven years' worth of corporate records, side companies, and published books—and none of it had simply appeared out of nowhere.

According to the documents, the businesses had been actively operating for years. Anonymous works, unknown authors, and backing that rose through publishing and industry at rocket speed—yet somehow remained low-profile.

Leo understood immediately.

Sonia had done all of this to make them perfectly invisible.

As a result, anyone who investigated them would find nothing more than a wealthy family—and nothing else.

At least, that was what Leo thought.
