The journey to Kaldir was uneventful, now the Zerg leviathan arrive on the orbit of the planet, within it house the possibility of a future or a destruction.
Kerrigan watched as the frozen hive cluster that is laid in silence.
"Seemed like nafash is away ..." Kerrigan muttered.
"The faster you get your brood, the faster you can end this charade." Alexander voice spoke behind her.
"You..." She paused as if she noticed something was wrong... He seemed more.. robotic. He was dressed in a soldier uniform and coat that was akin of taking a vacation than heading to a planet that have temperature that is equivalent to the temperature of space
"Look Kerrigan, it's your path, your story, and I don't want any problems in the final war. Get suited up, Raynor is at the cockpit, heating up the engines." He spoke as he left.
She wanted to question it but... The person before her is more... Erratic, something in him is slowly crumbling.
As Raynor Dropship arrived a few distance from the Zerg cluster.
Izha provided some Zerglings to aid Kerrigan journey. Though it was not that much, Raynor and Alexander knew how fast they can rip flesh apart.
"My Queen, Bioforms detected to be active vicinity, Kaldir flash freeze eminent, seek out their essence to strengthen the swarm.'" a uncaring tone appeared in her head.
It was her Zerg armourer and gene sequencer Abathur, when Kerrigan first met him, he was like a culmination of all the Zerg DNA coursing through its veins.
She knew he was a powderkeg, especially when he wanted to opened her and check what's wrong with her using a mortal shell.
For now he have his uses.
The first flash freeze swept. And she felt the bone chilling swarm swept over her. She used her psionic to keep her body long enough to keep her mind from being frozen.
She looked at where Alexander and Raynor and she was shocked that he was simply just sitting on a frozen rock with a coffee mug that is frozen, frustrated that his coffee mug was frozen solid than the actual cold itself.
While Raynor was covered by some sort of shield bubble that prevented his body from being frozen.
The roars of the local wildlife echoed in the distance, it was hungry, and it found food.
5 meter tall creatures, coated in white fur and armored carapace arrived at their location.
"Native bio signature designated for consumption to withstand the flash freeze, must consume for the swarm." Abathur spoke in her mind.
She silently gave the orders to her Zerglings and they rushed in such a speed that the natives roared in horor.
They never met a predator that were fast as the Zerglings.
Their prided armor frame was torn to shred and Raynor and Alexander got the front row seat of how the Zerg does things.
"Damm, that fast huh?" Raynor muttered as the Zerglings she controlled, killed the Natives in such a ferocity.
"Yeah, why else I fought against her without a command tank or a mech, the Zerg would definitely rip it apart." Alexander spoke as he reach in his coat and found that his thermos was frozen solid as well.
"The faster we get away from this bloody weather the faster I get to drink something good!"
The journey to nafash hive was arduous as in their path is filled with chasms and ice bridges that cracked apart with a single touch.
The native attacked them at everything single opportunity and each time they absorb so much essence that Sarah and her Zerglings was akin to a living heater alone.
But along in their path something made Kerrigan worried.
Feral roaches stood frozen, leaderless as they have no link to the hivemind.
"This is bad, these roaches gone feral." She spoke to the group.
"A feral Zerg colony is akin to a problem, and this is near Protoss space..." Alexander muttered as he placed his flask filled with frozen Amasec on one of the Zerglings back that heat up and drank it.
As she taken the roaches under her banner the leader of the natives mastodons roared as if determine to kill the outsiders.
The frame of the hulking beast stood before them that it was a joke that a Imperial War dog would contend with that.
Alexander simply just stepped aside as she fought with her roaches that tanked the Ursadon matriarch blows while the Zerglings nipped chunks of flesh apart.
As the last gasp of the Ursadon fell before her. She gained a boon.
"Esssence assimilation completed, Native bioform that is lesser would heed your call."
"Great, free reinforcements."
As they arrived in nafash hive, it was silent, frozen as if time just stopped. The ice covered most of the Zerg structure as if to encased whatever work the former Brood mother left behind.
But Kerrigan sense it, it was feral.
As she attempted to reconnect to the hive.
Explosions and gunfire occured in the distance, despite the blizzard that flush towards them, the psychic screams can be heard..
"Wait..." Alexander spoke.
"Protoss distain guns, That's Bolter fire, I recalled there's no Imperium Forces out here..." He recalled every forces that he owned especially the infiltration forces, there is no sense to antagonize the Protoss further.
Then his eyes widen.
Kerrigan and Raynor never saw the man that serious before.
He reached in his pocket that produced a glowing green cube and activated it that spawned several metal automatons.
"Kerrigan, better get the hive cluster ready, as fast as you can... You get to see a part why I never intended to replace you, why you must be aware of..." He glance at the horors ahead.
"My Father Sin..."
Several Protoss rushing in the near vicinity of the Frozen Zerg Base.
They were just researchers, colonist to see if this planet can be Terraform to suit their habitation.
It was yesterday that these armored Terrans that clothed themselves in Black and Gold arrived in a portal and began slaughtering anyone in their path.
Their alien tongue was translated from the Imperial translators they were given and it was shown they had no love for the Imperium, as they called themselves the Black Legion.
Protoss Warriors rushed to meet their enemies and these foes is wrapped in a sort of corruption that even the frozen land beneath them is pulsating flesh and corruption.
Psychic screams bashed into the psyche of the warriors as their shields were slowly evaporated and gunned down.
And what is scary is that the teleporter protocol that carried their wounded away from battle was somehow turned off and their corpses is lain on the soil.
Even their targeting hud was filled with static and figures appeared in the shadows of the snowstorm glimmered like wolves in the night.
And these black legion used their brethren remains to summon... These "entities".
They were akin to ghost, and the only way was to kill them with photon canons and more heavier ordinances. And their psyblades can deal damage to these ghosts but these monsters can also damage them as well.
It caused a panic in the civilians as if they fall they could be used as a fodder for their enemies to grow. They fled to the evacuation point that were riddled with defenses and hoped they held out.
The remaining colonist that were unable to reached their evacuation sites scattered in the wind and one of them reach to the Frozen Zerg Base in hopes they could use the ruins to hide from their pursuers.
Only to met a active hive that is pulsating with life. And Zergs now roam the premises.
"By the Khala... There's enemies in the front and back!?" One of the escapees groaned.
They knew what the Zerg can do.
And there's Terrans behind them that want to kill them.
They noticed three humans stepped out of the base. They recognize the two man that was walking beside the female.
These men helped them more than what is needed. In fact they heard that they brought down the queen of blades.
"Are you... Jim Raynor and Alexander Solair?" One of the leaders asked. Hoping in their minds that they were not infested by the Zerg virus.
"Yes, and we are the real deal." Raynor spoke.
"And I am the High Lord of the Imperium, Alexander Solair, And if your worries of us being infested, be at ease, we are on a... Field Test."
"If your words are true, can you help us?" One of the scholars garment in the group spoke
"Scholar, what is the issue? Your warriors have no problem defeating any enemies..."
"These foes are beyond our understanding. They used things as using our dead to summon these creatures beyond this galaxy.
It taken all our warriors in our colony to contain the threat... But this is beyond our understanding... They even cut off our connection to the Khala."
"They claim that they despise the Imperium..."
"I see... Seemed like they learned while they..." Alexander spoke but said nothing more.
The sense of unease swept over them and amidst the raging blizzard that tried to hide from the madness, giant figures walked out.
They were indeed clad in gold and black as the ashes on the ground they tread.
Armed with weapons from a bygone age as they simply watched from the periphery of the Zerg base. Silence as they gaze upon the people that stood before them... Until they saw Alexander.
"Corpse Emperor...." One hissed as his voxcaster blared in the blizzard.
"..." He glance at the army before them.
"Brothers! Kill the Corpse God dog that taken our father And Plunge this galaxy to despair!" The chaos marine bellowed as his followers bellowed in rage as they sprinted towards the group.
Kerrigan ordered her Zerg as they began to swarm the legionaries of old.
"What in the warp is this!?" One of them scream as they swung their chainswords and axes as the Zerglings swarmed before them.
The black legion to Alexander eyes noticed that they were recently arrived in the galaxy.
Because had they stayed in the brood wars, they would be scared of the monsters before them.
Everything that died would simply recycle as biomass and what they learn would implemented throughout the hive.
Alexander watched as his former nephews fired upon the unending mass of Zerglings. And only devoured alive. Seemed like Kerrigan managed to make the Zerglings to have acids to melt the ceramite... When he get back he better convene the mechanicum to fix the glaring issue.
Alexander watched their corpses not with hatred but with remorse as there were souls... Or husk of themselves unable to redeemed themselves...
As the last of the legionaries that attacked Kerrigan swarm died. Alexander placed a table at the mouth of the base as to negotiate with the surviving Protoss.
As it turn out fate had a funny thing to mess with him.
Lasarra was the leader of this escaped group.
The very same one had Kerrigan went on the vengeance crusade to korhal, she stuffed Lasarra with a Zerg Parasite and let the Protoss evacuate her in her expedition ship to be infested and caused more unknown factors in the end.
The Protoss before him noticed a sense of pity and concern from his eyes. Because Lasarra mistaken that his thoughts were the current issues at hand instead of her original demise.
"So... You saying that this... Current queen of blades is under control?" Lasarra spoke.
"In your terms, yes, right now we have a more threat that is coming before all of us ..
More than the swarm."
"I highly doubtful of your... Concerns but what she done can never be redeemed, l lost plenty of my brethren towards that... Thing." She gesture to Kerrigan whom is upset.
"The swarm is more of a lesser threat that you think. As long as we human can keep her contain, the swarm will be a contained threat, and if you force her to go in the darkness you and I have bigger problem." Alexander spoke.
"Tell me High lord, what is Black legion? When we first heard from them, they had no love for your Imperium." Lasarra asked.
"It's a long story, you want to know?" Alexander asked.
"Any information would be needed to fight against that thing."
"Your Probes have already seen our attempts in the brood wars? The Astartes?"
"You mean those people? They looked like Terran marines to us" Lasarra spoke.
"We came from a different galaxy... Different from the Terrans we have here. We are called humans. In that galaxy... We never had the notion of peace, we had endless war. Before you, I'm a High lord of the Celestial Imperium, in that Galaxy, The High Lord of the Imperium of mankind."
"What do you mean you never had peace?" Kerrigan asked.
"Before the endless war... We were like Protoss, the golden age of humanity... We touched the stars, touched the fabric of time and space, we were apex of what any race could defy... But in our arrogance, we invited the demons disguise as gods. I was there. I seen it's downfall."
"How exactly old are you? You look like in your late twenties?" Raynor spoke.
"I lost count past 40k, hard to keep track when your priorities is to save humanity at all cost."
"You are old..."
"But there is someone older... He... Was the definition of a god, a true God, my stepfather. He created my stepbrothers and the Astartes that followed them to unify terra and the galaxy, for almost 200 years, we wage war against the Xenos, the traitors and the demons.
He had a hatred to aliens because every aliens that promise and assured us peace, turned us into cattle, slaves or worse.... Food."
"We almost attained peace, mountains of blood and corpses as our foundation we hoped that we were free... Truly free.
There, in our pride come the fall, the Emperor of Mankind didn't mention about the Astartes future. They were weapons, tools to be disposed that were spoken by our nobility, they had not a place for them in a empire of peace...
And the fear, something that even into the minds of supersoldiers cannot erased, were the catalyst to be exploited.
The version of what we used for psionic in that Galaxy, is literally hell. A realm of souls that been tortured and broken from the dawn of our species awakening.
Monsters dwell within, false gods, tempted our salvation to peace, tempted and caused half of my brothers and their Astartes to betrayed us and our dream...
I was there... I was there as the ashes and wreckage of what was my home burn because of fear... The fear of being left alone. Of being forgotten...
The ashes of our ruined galaxy birthed these... Fallen. They called themselves as the black legion, because they believe that my father... My home... Our ideals, Betrayed them. They worship the false gods and these demons...
They twisted their followers, turned them into abomination, their sacrifices allowed their followers into reality.
These abomination... Are simply demons that hide within the souls of ages past. Something that Protoss technology unable to comprehend."
"We been fight unkillable robots, weaponized fungi that loved war, gods, demons, traitors and xenos that would torture you without a care, some of my people can be highly xenophobic because of that."
"What happened... If we fall?" Lasarra asked fearfully.
"You ever believe in souls?" Alexander spoke.
"The moment you worship their false gods, you be damned to hell. You may die under their service... But you be damned for all eternity. Your souls be crushed and used as a plaything, never to be reborn."
"So... What's your solution?" Lasarra spoke.
"We have to take the fight to the enemy. You must ensure that this taint never reached Shakuras. They will sacrifice enough corpses to let the false gods aware of this realm, dooming us all. My stepfather been distracting them for how long, even I don't know..."
Alexander placed a Holo map that spread across the Kaldir, Lasarra saw the colors of the factions in here. Yellow for Protoss, Zerg for purple, Terrans for blue.
And the black legion tag was akin to a cracked icon with pulsating crimson veins. That even the Holo map didn't stop her fears.
And she realized that more of the black legion is growing.
"How..."
"They are everywhere... Seemed like they sacrifice quite a number of your people to the false gods...." Alexander spoke.
"What's the evacuation protocols in the event you are under attack?" Alexander spoke.
Lasarra pointed several points, that were congested with the colors black tags.
"If our people were overrun, we should hold the shuttles bays to evacuate to Shakuras... But... If facing that many..." She muttered.
If they reached Shakuras, then what horors could be inflicted upon them.
"Let the Zerg handle it." Alexander spoke.
Both Kerrigan and Lasarra looked at him in horor.
"Look, the golden armada is too spread out to even help as Artanins is focused on taking back Aiur, Imperium ships would take hours before they arrive. By the time they arrived, this world would be a beacon for whatever the hell I tried to prevent entering this galaxy...
And we have a ready force to assist."
"How can I explain to my people?"
"Nothing, just say feral Zerg was fighting against the black legion since we are simply taking the brood away from the planet leaving you alone." Alexander spoke.
"So basically you just help us defeat the black legion and leave us alone?"
"It's what I could atone even for a bit..." Kerrigan spoke.
"I don't remember the time when I was the queen of blades, just fragment of what I once was...I help whatever I can to help." Kerrigan added.
"Then you shall have a voice of your redemption in the Daelaam council... If we survived this...." Lasarra spoke.
This was the most unlikely alliance of sorts.
Zerg and Protoss... Joining forces.
Alexander knew that if this continues on, even the realm that the emperor is waging across his reality would be dragged here.
Especially the large amount of psionic xenos that would attract the actual chaos gods.
His summoned automatons would retake the portal bays for the Protoss to escape. While the Zerg be take the brunt of the attack.
(Black legion pov)
The black legion found themselves in this galaxy, a virgin galaxy ripe for conquest.
After their lost of their Primarchs they were akin to a feral dogs without a leash.
But they had a new leader.
Not Horus, that turned traitor to them
No Abaddon that was weak.
But the one...
He gave them something what they truly want.
Purpose, they were truly what they were, weapons of war.
After their last clash with Alexander, they been sent to other franchises that their master control, to sharpen their blades, hone their rage.
Replenish their numbers.
It was no longer legions strength....
It was a horde of madness and insanity.
They were indeed given better weapons, but they distain it as it was not... "Honorable" in their sick twisted sense.
When they arrived this forsaken planet these xenos before them, they were a hunt to be made, their targets have the strongest psyker powers that they been through and they would make a perfect sacrifice to allow the four chaos gods to gaze upon this galaxy.
But never would they imagine that their target of ire is walking upon this frozen ball.
"Alexander Solair"... They hissed in their voxcoms.
Their chains of agony trembled.
Their daemons howled.
They want him dead, they want his soul pounded into dust and shat out into the warp.
But... Never would they imagine that they found a foe that followed him...
Upon eating the brains of one of the Xenos they search for their memories, these bugs were called Zerg .
By the time they realize, hundreds of thousands of this... Abomination of a xenos flood their huds.
Every one that died, a hundred took their place.
They witness something instant what Alexander taken years to Prepare for the swarm.
Their dreadnoughts were powerful.
Their sorcerers were powerful.
Quantity was a major factor.
Something that even they forget sometimes their Primarchs can get overwhelmed.
Their ammo ran dry, their link to the warp wavered and the Zerg were endless.
They recently arrived and their logistics were horrible.
They lost several bastions and outposts that surrounded the Protoss holdouts.
Now they saw something that dreaded them.
In the blizzard stood formations of silver ash robot figure that marched towards them.
Necrons.
Their hated foe actually summon Necrons into this debacle and they knew how horrifying to fight against something that were the bane of their existence.
The first lash of green light already proven their identification. And as the flash freeze ended, the sight was a terrifying to behold.
Monoliths and doomsday ark's simply waited in the snow.
Their incursion was strangled before it was born fruit.
"Retreat!" Was their first thought before they realize their sorcerers cannot connect to the warp.
In the midst of soulless automatons stood a figure they despised and fear.
A man bore the halo of their false emperor.
His golden halo was already a third consumed by grey and it was more terrify to them, was the fact something is corrupting the man they despise.
As they knew that the shard of the emperor was impervious to corruption.
But the being before them is more closer to being something more worse and somehow corrupted it..
"You are not allowed to escape..." A chilling voice echoed in their minds.
As if this planet was plucked from reality and the sea of souls, and all of them were placed in a cage, unable to flee to the warp and report their expedition.
Their pleas of mercy went silent as they were being gunned down.
Their last sight before evaporated into atoms.
Was the madness in their eternal foe eyes.
Ready to devoured their souls if they had one.
And a incubation of a more dreaded monster...
(3rd pov)
The battle was over.
With the last death of the Black legion sorcerer killed, their incursion didn't brought back news of the fact they were going to face a bigger monster.
The Protoss was surprised of the Zerg incursion. And the fact that they escorted the remaining Protoss stranglers was a weird sense to gesture.
But as promised, Kerrigan simply took the brood away from Kaldir while Alexander cleanse the planet from the taint.
She felt the screams and never was one so malicious towards Alexander.
When she heard a bit about his past... She shuddered.
She looked through the eyes of her Zerglings when they fought the Black legion.
Monsters was apt in her eyes.
What kind of a father that Alexander willingly follow would make them in the first place...
No... more specifically, What kind of a galaxy he left that caused them to be made?
She looked at the man before her with a subtle fear in her heart.
As he ratified the negotiations with the Protoss, he taken some of their captured lifeform for the swarm for evolution. In exchange the Protoss ignore the Zerg and left them to handle on their "human affairs."
And ensure that not a soul told their incursion. After all, a black legion would never let go of the targets they hunted. And Amon is a lot more on their plate...
And the Protoss colonist would simply turn a blind eye to Kerrigan getting all the broods into her leviathan as she set off into the darkness of space. Her actions attracted some of the swarm queens and request acceptance to the swarm.
But one such creature followed behind her leviathan.
A Protoss ship silently slipped into her ship and Kerrigan and Alexander sense his presence.
"Zerathul..." Kerrigan muttered.
From the darkness of the corridors, a aged Protoss appeared before them.
"Friend Raynor, Friend Alexander and Kerrigan... I come to bring news..." He spoke.
"She is needed more than ever.. I have a chart to where her powers can be... Amplified..."
"Which place partner..." Raynor spoke
"Zerus, the home planet of the original Zerg. Untouched by Terrans or Protoss, in there you seek the power to defend those you love... Kerrigan." He looked at Kerrigan.
"Is it enough to destroy Acturus?"
"Is your love strong enough to handle the powers of the ancient?" Zerathul spoke.
She glance at Raynor and nodded.
"Then the call to Zerus awaits." Zerathul shown the image of the planet in her mind.
And the Leviathan plotted a new course.
