Chapter 187 - Chapter 188: 4 stones claimed

The world was too quiet.

Not gentle-quiet. Not peaceful-quiet.

But the kind of quiet that exists right after something enormous dies.

The last fragments of the Storm Citadel dissolved into the churning abyss below, lightning flickering one final time before fading like a candle snuffed out. The storm clouds above had stopped screaming. The thunder no longer rolled. The winds had fallen into an unnatural stillness, as if even the sky was holding its breath.

Danny knelt on the fractured remains of the lightning platform, golden aura dimming with each breath. He felt hollow—yet full. Exhausted—yet awake in a way he had never been. Creation pulsed beneath his skin like a second heartbeat, steady but unstable, humming faintly in his bones.

Beside him, Shadeclaw cradled Mira gently against his chest. She wasn't fully conscious; her eyes fluttered open for only seconds at a time, then slipped shut, as if her mind kept sinking and resurfacing from a dark ocean. Her shadow aura flickered unevenly, making the black markings on her skin pulse with light that wasn't hers alone.

The Wolf King stood tensely near the edge, scanning the storm-warped expanse. His fur was scorched in places, patches of glowing ember still clinging to his mane. Blood—not his—dripped from his claws. His chest heaved in slow, controlled breaths, but his eyes betrayed something else: fear for his pack.

Even Solmara, composed as ever, seemed different. Her silver armor, usually immaculate, reflected the damage of the battle—a crack along the left pauldron, a scorch mark across the stomach plate, tiny fractures spiderwebbing her gauntlet like a web of mistakes. Her hair was wind-tossed, her eyes shadowed. She looked… mortal.

But her voice was not.

"It is done," she said softly. "For now."

Danny tried to stand. His legs buckled. Solmara grabbed his arm in a flash of silver, steadying him before he tipped over the edge.

"No sudden movements," she warned. "Your resonance is unstable. You pushed yourself farther than any untrained creation-born ever should."

Danny wiped the sweat from his brow. His fingers shook. "I'm fine."

Shadeclaw barked a weak laugh. "Bruh… you're glowing through your shirt."

Danny looked down.

Small gold rings shimmered beneath his skin, swirling slowly, rhythmically—visible even through the fabric. The Wolf King noticed and stepped closer, nostrils flaring. His deep voice rumbled with concern and awe.

"You are awakening too quickly. Your flame outruns your body."

Danny swallowed. "I didn't have a choice."

Solmara shook her head gently. "No. You chose correctly. But your body is still adjusting to what your soul has accepted."

Mira stirred weakly in Shadeclaw's arms.

Her voice was barely a whisper.

"Shade…?"

Shadeclaw dropped everything. His breath hitched. "I'm here. Right here." His clawed hand cupped her cheek softly. "You're safe."

Mira blinked up at him, eyes unfocused. "…You… came…"

"Of course I came." Shadeclaw leaned his forehead against hers. "I would tear down one thousand citadels to reach you."

Her lips twitched upward, for just a moment.

The Wolf King watched the two with a look that blended pride, respect, and a father's fierce protectiveness. His tail thumped once—a king's approval.

Danny forced his legs under him, rising slowly. Creation rings flared again, forcing Solmara to grip his arm tighter.

"Danny," she said sharply, "stop resisting. Your flame is reacting to fear of your own awakening."

Danny clenched his jaw. "I'm not afraid."

She raised an eyebrow. "Then why is your aura shaking?"

Danny looked down.

The gold energy vibrations were uneven, unstable—quivering like a heart beating out of sync. Breath by breath, he tried to steady it, but creation didn't obey him. It responded to him.

He closed his eyes.

A memory flickered—a small apartment, a family he'd tried to build, a life cut short by a mysterious old man. A different life, another attempt to start over, shattered again. Rage. Pain. Loss. Over and over.

Creation pulsed wildly under those thoughts.

Danny exhaled slowly.

He pushed the memories aside—not forgetting them, not burying them, but letting them float for now, like fallen leaves on a stream.

His aura steadied a fraction.

Solmara nodded. "Better."

Shadeclaw lifted Mira carefully, adjusting her weight so her head rested on his shoulder. Her breathing was slow but steady. Each breath made her shadow aura flicker, but the rhythm was stabilizing. Danny felt his chest loosen just seeing her alive.

Solmara scanned the horizon. "Tempestron's domain has collapsed. That means Terragorn will next assume central authority over the Elemental Lords."

Danny's eyes shot open. "Terragorn…?"

"Hades," Solmara clarified. "Earth. Death. Reinforcement. Strategy. The most patient among us. And the most dangerous when provoked."

The Wolf King's ears flicked. "He will come for retribution."

"He will," she confirmed.

Shadeclaw growled quietly. "Let him."

Mira weakly grabbed Shadeclaw's fur. "…No… no more fighting… not yet…"

Her voice cracked. Shadeclaw instantly softened, pulling her closer.

Danny stepped toward her. "Mira, we're going home. We're taking you back to HQ. You'll be safe there."

She nodded faintly, trusting him without question.

The storm was dissolving around them, leaving the sky unbelievably clear—so clear it felt wrong. The air was too still, too crisp, like the aftermath of a forest fire where even nature forgets how to breathe.

Danny sensed something—a pulse. Faint. Distant. A signature he knew.

A beacon.

Jake. Swift. Jade. Bumble.

Solmara sensed it too. "Your Arrowhead is approaching. Extraction is imminent."

The Wolf King bristled with confusion. "Your allies track you through the storm?"

Danny smiled faintly. "We leave breadcrumbs."

Shadeclaw blinked. "You left breadcrumbs?"

Danny shrugged. "Creation breadcrumbs."

Shadeclaw stared. "…Okay, yeah, that tracks."

The Wolf King snorted.

A beam of silver-blue light cut through the thinning clouds as the WhistleDawn descended, engines roaring with familiar power. Its sleek arrowhead silhouette glinted against the clearing sky.

As it landed on a stable section of shattered bridge, the hatch blew open, and three figures sprinted out—Jake in bronze-scaled humanoid draconic form, Swift in silver, Jade in human but heavily armored gear. Bumble rolled behind them, screeching chirps of excitement.

Jake reached Danny first.

He slammed into him with a hug so tight Danny saw stars. "BRO. YOU ARE AN IDIOT. DON'T EVER DO THAT AGAIN."

Danny wheezed. "Love you too, man."

Swift's eyes widened at Danny's aura. "Uhhh… Danny? You're glowing like a busted reactor."

Jade pointed at the still-golden rings beneath Danny's torn shirt. "My guy, you look like a walking religious experience."

Bumble beeped wildly and spun in circles, projecting a hologram of Mira's vitals. The bot scooted to Shadeclaw and scanned Mira repeatedly, chirping distress.

Shadeclaw growled, "Back up, tin can!"

Bumble beeped indignantly and projected a giant red heart symbol over Mira's face.

Jake burst out laughing. "Buddy, I think he's trying to diagnose her."

The Wolf King's low growl silenced everyone. Even Bumble stopped spinning.

Swift swallowed nervously. "Is… is that the Wolf King?"

Jade whispered, "Why is he so big?"

Danny nodded. "He helped us."

The Wolf King stepped forward, towering above the younger dragons. "Your commander did well," he stated. "Without him, the storm would still stand."

Jake blinked. "Commander? Danny?"

Danny blushed. "Please don't say that."

Solmara stepped into view.

Swift and Jake instantly stiffened. Jade reached for a weapon.

Danny held out his hand. "She's with us."

Swift opened his mouth. Closed it. Opened it again. "You… brought another Elemental Lord onto the ship?"

Solmara bowed her head slightly. "I stand against them now. And with you."

Bumble cautiously beeped a greeting.

Solmara almost smiled.

Jake's hand trembled. "Danny. Dude. This is… This is a lot."

Danny nodded. "I know."

Mira stirred again, and Shadeclaw repositioned her as gently as possible. "Can we please get her to the med bay? Now?"

Jake snapped out of it. "Yes! Yes, absolutely—Swift, grab the med harness—Jade, get the cabin prepped—Bumble, stop hovering over her face!"

Bumble beeped an apology and rolled out of the way.

Danny placed a hand on Shadeclaw's shoulder. "Let's get her home."

They boarded the WhistleDawn.

As the ship lifted off, the last fragments of Tempestron's domain collapsed behind them, swallowed by the abyss.

None of them looked back.

Only forward.

To HQ.

To healing.

To answers.

To war.

And to the truth of what Danny was becoming.

The WhistleDawn's engines roared as the ship rose above the dying storm. The hull hummed with energy, the interior lights flickering momentarily as the vessel adjusted to the sudden change in atmospheric pressure. Inside the hold, the air was thick with fear, relief, exhaustion—and a quiet, rising determination that marked the aftermath of every great battle.

Jake hurried ahead to open the med-bay doors, Swift already at the panel to activate the Magic Water Baby–infused medical gel tanks. Jade rushed to secure the cabin, kicking away loose equipment that had rolled free during their rough docking landing.

Bumble zipped around in mechanical excitement, chirping frantically as it projected Mira's vitals onto the wall: elevated heart rate, unstable shadow aura, cellular fatigue. The little bot made a distressed buzzing sound and projected a digital frown.

Shadeclaw growled softly. "You're not helping, Bumble."

Bumble beeped an offended boop and rolled back a few inches, though its single glowing eye remained locked on Mira.

Swift adjusted the med harness. "Shadeclaw, hand her to me—gently."

Shadeclaw held Mira protectively tighter. "No."

Swift froze, understanding instantly. His voice softened. "Okay. You carry her. I'll stabilize the tank."

Mira stirred in Shadeclaw's arms, her eyes fluttering open just enough to see the silver dragon hovering near. She blinked, confused.

"Swift…?" she whispered faintly. "Where… are we…?"

"We're on our ship," Swift said gently. "You're safe now."

Her eyes drifted shut again.

Shadeclaw didn't breathe until he heard her next exhale.

Danny walked behind them, one hand on the wall for support. His legs felt stiff and heavy, his steps unsteady. Every movement made his creation aura ripple beneath his skin in uneven waves. He tried to hide it, but the others kept glancing back with growing concern.

Jade whispered to Jake, "He's flickering like a broken neon sign."

Jake whispered back, "He's leaking creation energy. That's… probably not great."

Solmara followed behind Danny silently. She watched him closely—not with fear, but with analytical precision.

"Your resonance is still unstable," she said quietly.

Danny didn't look at her. "Yeah, well, so is everything else right now."

Solmara didn't smile, but her eyes softened. "You speak like someone who has survived a great trial."

Danny gripped the wall harder. "I survived because Shadeclaw, Mira, the Wolf King, and you were there. Not because of… this stuff inside me."

Solmara touched two fingers to the glowing rings beneath his shirt—not touching his skin, but the air above it.

"This 'stuff' is awakening," she said. "What you choose to do with it will shape everything."

He didn't answer.

He couldn't.

The Wolf King entered behind them, taking up a third of the hallway. Every cadet on board instinctively stepped aside as he passed. His aura radiated command, flames still glowing faintly along his mane. Even injured, exhausted, bloodstained—he looked unstoppable.

Jade whispered, "He's like… if a volcano had legs."

Jake whispered back, "And fangs."

Swift added quietly, "And trauma."

Jade nodded. "Yeah. Big trauma vibes."

The Wolf King stopped beside Shadeclaw and Mira. He lowered his head, sniffed Mira gently, then let out a low rumbling growl of approval.

"She will survive," he said. "Her scent is bruised, not broken."

Shadeclaw exhaled shakily. "Thank you, my king."

Danny watched the exchange, marveling at Shadeclaw's transformation. Weeks ago, Shadeclaw had been a lone assassin with a cold heart and colder instincts. Now he held Mira like something sacred, trembling not from rage but from fear of losing her.

Danny felt a painful warmth in his chest at the sight.

Swift finally opened the med tank. The interior glowed a bright turquoise, swirling with thick healing gel infused with distillations from Magic Water Baby—liquids capable of regenerating flesh, bone, and even small fragments of soul essence.

Shadeclaw stepped inside with Mira, lowering her into the gel. She gasped faintly as the cold substance enveloped her body. The gel pulsed around her, immediately analyzing wounds, adjusting chemical balances, rehydrating cells damaged by Tempestron's experimentation.

As her body floated weightlessly, tubes connected to the tank pulsed steadily, pushing healing essences into her bloodstream.

Shadeclaw didn't leave her side.

He sank onto his knees, hands pressed against the glass. His forehead rested there too, his breath fogging the surface. Danny felt the emotion rolling off him like waves—relief mixed with a fury that had no place to go.

Jake put a hand on Shadeclaw's shoulder. "She's going to make it. You got her out."

Shadeclaw didn't look up. "I should have gotten her before she was taken."

"Yo, bro," Jake said, squeezing his shoulder, "don't do that. You tore through a storm fortress to save her. That's… that's beyond anything any of us have done."

Jade added, "And you became a badass shadow wolf. That's pretty metal."

Shadeclaw's breath stuttered. "I… I can feel her emotions. Even when she sleeps. She's afraid."

Solmara approached him carefully. "Her shadow transformation is still raw. She will cling to any anchor she has." She touched the glass. "You are her anchor, Shadeclaw. That fear you feel is simply her reaching for you."

He swallowed hard. "…Thank you."

Solmara stepped back, watching the gel work on Mira's wounds. The Wolf King moved to stand beside her, shoulders sagging as adrenaline finally faded.

"We must leave quickly," he said. "When Tempestron rises again—and he will—he may track the remnants of his storm energy."

Jake blinked. "Rises again? You mean he's not, like… dead?"

Solmara shook her head. "Elemental Lords do not die easily. Tempestron was shattered. But not destroyed. He will return—with allies."

Danny leaned against the wall, breathing shakily. "Solmara… the other Lords… they're not going to stop, are they?"

She turned toward him slowly. "No."

Her voice was quiet.

"Tempestron's fall unbalanced them. Terragorn will assume leadership. And he does not tolerate failure."

Jake exhaled. "Great. The earth guy is in charge now. That's not terrifying at all."

Jade nudged him. "Bro, you punch people with fire and bronze claws. You'll be fine."

Swift didn't look convinced. His silver eyes were fixed on Danny. "Danny… are you sure you're alright?"

Danny opened his mouth to lie, but his body betrayed him. Creation flickered violently across his chest, sending a shockwave through the wall. Bumble beeped in alarm as tools rattled off shelves.

Danny stumbled. Solmara caught him.

The Wolf King approached, sniffing the air around him. "Your flame is singing too loudly. Your body cannot contain it yet."

Danny gritted his teeth. "I don't know how to shut it off."

Solmara placed a hand over his chest—not touching skin, but close enough for creation rings to distort around her palm.

"You cannot shut it off," she said. "You can only learn to breathe with it. To align. To resonate with your own nature."

Danny clenched his fists. "I don't even know what my nature is."

The Wolf King's reply was gentle, surprising even Danny.

"You are creation," the King said. "But you are also heart. And heart is what brought Mira back. What saved Shadeclaw. What threatened Tempestron."

He placed a clawed hand on Danny's shoulder.

"Do not fear what you are. Fear what you become if you stop caring."

Danny's breath caught.

He had feared becoming a monster.

A weapon.

A force of destruction he couldn't control.

But maybe… maybe creation wasn't something to fear.

Maybe it was something to choose.

The ship's comms crackled.

"WhistleDawn, this is HQ docking control. Prepare for hyperspace window."

Jake rushed to the cockpit. "Strapping in!"

Jade grabbed a support bar. "Buckle up, everyone, we're about to punch reality."

Swift yelled down the hall, "Danny—sit before you fall!"

Danny sank onto a bench, still trembling. Solmara remained beside him. The Wolf King stood guard. Shadeclaw stayed at Mira's tank, watching her breathe.

Bumble climbed onto Jake's shoulder, plugging into the navigation console with a proud chirp.

The hyperspace alarm sounded.

Danny closed his eyes.

Creation hummed.

Swift whispered, "Here we go."

The WhistleDawn jumped.

And the storm was left behind.

Hyperspace wrapped around the WhistleDawn in a rush of white-blue streaks, a tunnel of bending stars and shivering gravity. The ship vibrated—just a little—as it transitioned, settling into the smooth glide of interdimensional travel. The storm was gone. The battlefield was gone. Only the hum of engines and the faint echo of the storm's aftermath lingered in everyone's bones.

Inside, silence.

Not peaceful.

Not empty.

A silence shaped by the exhaustion of survivors.

Danny rested against the wall, eyes half-open, head gently knocking forward until Solmara caught it before he hit the metal. His breathing was slow and uneven—like someone floating halfway between waking and collapse.

Solmara adjusted his posture. "Lean back. Not forward. You'll bruise your forehead long before your aura stabilizes."

Danny let out a weak breath. "Sorry."

"You do not need to apologize for surviving," she said quietly.

He blinked up at her. "I feel… weird."

"That is called existing as what you are," she replied.

He snorted softly. "Feels like a fever."

"No." Her gaze was steady. "What you feel is growth. And growth is always disorienting."

Across the med-bay, Shadeclaw hadn't moved from Mira's tank. He sat cross-legged on the floor, muzzle inches from the glass, watching every pulse of the gel, every rise of her chest. His fur occasionally shifted between full shadow form and patches of normality, as if even his body wasn't sure what it was supposed to be anymore.

Swift grabbed a chair and dragged it over, plopping down beside Shadeclaw.

"Hey. You holding up?"

Shadeclaw didn't look away. "She's… so pale."

Swift nodded. "She nearly died, man."

Shadeclaw flinched.

"But she didn't," Swift added. "Because you were there."

Shadeclaw's voice cracked. "I… wasn't fast enough."

Swift leaned forward, elbows on his knees. "Shadeclaw. Bro. You tore across a storm fortress after she was kidnapped by a god. You faced a lightning labyrinth and lived. You fought guardians of literal elemental power. You reached her before anyone else could."

Shadeclaw swallowed, jaw trembling.

Swift poked his arm. "She's alive because of you. So shut up and let the tank work."

Shadeclaw's breath hitched. Then he nodded slowly.

"Thank you," he whispered.

Swift shrugged. "I'm a silver dragon. We're required to say at least one wise thing every three days."

Shadeclaw almost smiled.

The Wolf King stood behind them, watching Mira with the intensity of a guardian deity. A rumble reverberated deep in his chest—not threat, not warning, but a protective resonance. He touched the glass gently with one claw.

"She is pack now," he said. "She fought shadows and storms. She lives. She will rise stronger."

Shadeclaw lowered his head. "I just want her to wake up."

The Wolf King nodded. "She will."

Jade approached Danny with a bottle of electrolyte gel. "Yo, Danny. Drink. You look like someone microwaved a glow stick and dared you to chug it."

Danny blinked. "That's… oddly specific."

Jade shrugged. "My metaphors slap."

Jake jogged in from the cockpit. "Alright, team. Hyperspace window to headquarters is stable. We'll hit the approach vector in five minutes."

The Wolf King's ears perked. "The great station of your people?"

Jake grinned. "Yep. Buddy Headquarters. Biggest structure this side of the galaxy."

Shadeclaw raised an eyebrow. "How big?"

Swift gestured dramatically with his hands. "Like… a planet that somebody turned into a government building."

Jade added, "With guns."

Jake beamed. "And waffles."

Danny groaned. "Jake… please don't remind Jimmy about waffles."

Bumble beeped an enthusiastic waffle emoji.

The Wolf King tilted his head. "What is a waffle?"

Jade slapped a hand over their mouth trying not to laugh. "Oh, buddy. Do not ask Jimmy that question unless you want a forty-minute lecture."

Solmara stood quietly beside Danny. She had removed her helmet, revealing a sharp jawline, long silver hair braided tightly down her back, and eyes like polished steel. She looked tired—an unusual, human kind of tired that made Danny wonder how long she had been carrying her doubts alone.

He studied her. "You okay?"

She raised an eyebrow. "You are the one glowing uncontrollably, Daniel."

"I mean emotionally," he clarified.

She hesitated—surprisingly long for someone who usually responded in seconds.

Then she said, "Tempestron's fall has consequences. Among my kind. Among yours."

Danny tilted his head. "Are you… scared?"

Her eyes sharpened. "I do not fear for myself. I fear what Terragorn will do next."

Danny straightened slowly. "Terragorn. That's the earth one, right?"

"Yes. Strategist. Builder. Keeper of the subterranean realms. And Tempestron's opposite—in every way except ambition."

Jade whistled low. "So… bad news?"

Solmara nodded. "Terragorn has no patience. He will not tolerate Tempestron's failure. His retaliation will be swift, organized, and brutal."

Jake folded his arms. "He can try. We're Buddies."

Solmara turned to him, serious. "He will not attack you first."

Swift frowned. "Then who?"

Solmara looked at Danny.

"Whoever he thinks you care about."

Danny's blood ran cold.

The creation rings beneath his skin throbbed, glowing hotter.

Jake put a hand on his shoulder. "Dude. Hey. Breathe."

Danny forced out a shaky exhale.

The rings flickered, stabilizing.

Barely.

Mira stirred again in the tank. A small, quiet gasp. Her fingers twitched. Shadeclaw leapt to his feet, pressing his hands to the glass.

"Mira? Mira—can you hear me?"

Her eyes fluttered open.

This time, she stayed awake.

Shadeclaw's entire body shook. "Hey… hey, you're safe. You're safe now."

Mira blinked slowly, her pupils shifting between human and wolf. "…Shade…? Where…?"

"We're on the WhistleDawn. You're okay."

She reached toward the glass with trembling fingers. Shadeclaw pressed his hand against hers through the barrier.

Danny felt tears burn behind his eyes. Relief. Pure, overwhelming relief.

The Wolf King bowed his head in respect, murmuring a quiet blessing in ancient lupine tongue.

Solmara watched silently, her expression unreadable, but her posture softened.

Jake wiped his eyes discreetly. "Not crying. Just… sweating from my eyeballs."

Swift sniffed loudly. "Yeah. Allergic to emotional reunions."

Jade nudged Bumble, who was projecting a heart animation again. "And you—stop being cute."

The ship shuddered.

Jake's voice came over comms. "Approach vector locked. We're coming up on HQ."

Everyone turned toward the viewport.

Danny forced himself to stand. The others joined him.

Through the window, space unfolded into a breathtaking sight:

The B.U.D.D.I.E.S. Headquarters.

A colossal superstructure the size of a small planet—part space station, part artificial world, part fortress. A glowing ring encircled it like the crown of a god-machine. Docking arms stretched for miles. Defensive arrays glittered like constellations.

Lightning storms from Tempestron's domain reflected off its armor plates as if saluting the returning heroes.

Shadeclaw whispered, "It's… huge."

The Wolf King growled in awe. "A metal world."

Solmara's eyes narrowed. "Impressive. Even by Elemental standards."

Danny felt something warm in his chest that wasn't creation.

It was home.

Jake spoke over the intercom again, excitement bubbling. "Let's go say hi to Jimmy."

Danny groaned. "If he hands me a waffle—"

Swift smirked. "You're eating it."

Jade added, "Or I am."

The ship slid into the docking corridor.

The lights of HQ washed over them.

And for the first time since the storm, Danny felt a sliver of safety.

But only a sliver.

Because war was coming.

And creation was still waking inside him.

The WhistleDawn glided into the docking tunnel, magnetic rails guiding its descent with a soft hum. External clamps latched onto the ship's hull with a deep mechanical thunk, the engines powering down one by one until only the steady heartbeat of the ship's core remained.

Lights shifted from blue to green.

Docking complete.

For a moment, no one moved.

Everyone seemed suspended in that thin space between relief and dread—the fragile quiet after surviving something terrible, knowing the world outside hasn't slowed at all.

Then the ramp hissed and lowered.

Warm, filtered air drifted into the cabin. It carried scents of metal, ozone, sterilized hallways, and something else Danny recognized instantly.

Waffles.

Danny groaned. "He's waiting with waffles, isn't he?"

Jake laughed. "Bet your glowing ribs he is."

Shadeclaw gathered himself, pulling away reluctantly from Mira's tank. The gel continued pulsing around her, steady and strong. She watched him through half-lidded eyes, exhaustion still powerful but no longer dangerous.

"Shade…" she murmured. "Go. I'll… be here."

He touched the glass gently. "I'm not leaving this room."

"You should," she whispered. "You… need help too."

Shadeclaw stiffened, ready to argue, but the Wolf King placed a massive paw on his shoulder. The pressure was gentle but immovable.

"She is safe," the king said. "And you must breathe."

Shadeclaw swallowed, then nodded once. "I'll be back the moment they clear me."

Mira smiled weakly. "I know."

The Wolf King stepped aside, letting Shadeclaw rejoin the group. Solmara lingered by the tank for a moment, her hand resting above the glass—not touching, yet close enough that the gel responded with faint ripples of light.

"Your shadow synchronization stabilizes more rapidly than expected," she said softly. "You have a strong anchor."

Mira's eyes drifted toward Shadeclaw's retreating form. "Yeah… I do."

Solmara nodded and turned away, her posture shifting from healer to warrior once more.

Danny moved slowly down the ramp. His legs trembled, his golden aura flickering like a candle flame bracing against wind. Jake stayed beside him, one hand ready to catch him if he stumbled.

The corridor beyond was massive—bigger than a starship landing bay had any right to be. High ceilings arched overhead, reinforced beams gleaming with polished steel. Hundreds of personnel bustled through the lower walkways, but all froze when they saw who was stepping off the WhistleDawn.

A murmur swept through the hall like an incoming tide.

"Is that—?"

"The Golden one."

"That's the Wolf King!"

"Shadeclaw survived?"

"Is that an Elemental Lord?"

"Why is Danny glowing?"

"Holy—look at the creation rings—"

"Who's the silver-haired woman?"

"Jade's still alive?"

"Is that Bumble? He's back!"

Bumble beeped proudly and extended its arms like it was taking a bow.

Swift elbowed Jade. "See? The bot has fans."

Jade muttered, "So do I," but the faint blush undermined the bravado.

As Danny stepped fully into the corridor, the murmurs grew louder. People began to part instinctively, giving him room—not out of fear, but reverence, awe, and something deeper.

Recognition.

Danny, despite being exhausted, tried to manage a casual wave.

The creation rings pulsed too brightly.

Five cadets fainted.

Jake sighed. "Dude. Tone it down."

"I'm trying!" Danny hissed.

Solmara stepped up beside him. "Do not suppress your aura. It will destabilize further."

Swift added, "Yeah, Danny—just… breathe. Preferably not in a way that blinds people."

They continued through the corridor, with Shadeclaw and the Wolf King flanking the group like silent guardians.

Then—

"Well look what the recycling bot dragged in!"

A cheerful, nearly musical voice echoed down the hallway.

Jimmy.

He strode toward them with a plate stacked so high with waffles it might have had its own gravitational pull. Papers were tucked under his arm. He had a pen behind each ear. His tie was crooked. His hair was a chaotic mess. His smile was radiant.

He looked like a bureaucratic hurricane.

And he was beaming at them.

"Danny! My shining golden headache! You're alive!"

Danny tried not to collapse into a hug. "Barely."

Jimmy waved dismissively. "Pshh. Barely is still alive. That's practically a Tuesday!"

He handed Danny a waffle. Danny stared at it like it was a bomb.

Jimmy blinked. "Why are you looking at it like that?"

Danny whispered, "Is this… one of the magic waffles…?"

Jimmy gasped, clutching his chest. "How dare you suggest I would wield waffle-based power irresponsibly! That was ONE time!"

Swift snorted. "Dude, it made you prophetic."

"AND constipated!" Jimmy snapped. "Don't remind me!"

Jake choked from laughter. Jade wheezed against the wall. Even the Wolf King looked amused.

Jimmy turned to Shadeclaw and the Wolf King. "You two look like you slaughtered a pantheon."

They both nodded.

Jimmy's grin widened. "Good. They deserved it. Proud of you! And Shadeclaw—your med report says you're missing a ton of calories. Eat a waffle."

Shadeclaw blinked, confused. "I do not—"

Jimmy shoved the waffle into his hand. "Eat food. You're a wolf. Food good. Eat."

Shadeclaw looked bewildered. Jake whispered, "Just… do it. Trust the process."

The Wolf King crossed his arms. "Where is my waffle?"

Jimmy blinked up at him. "You want a waffle?"

"Yes."

Jimmy narrowed his eyes. "How many?"

The Wolf King considered this deeply. "Twenty."

Jimmy beamed. "I like you!"

Solmara stepped forward.

The entire corridor went silent.

Her presence carried the weight of storms, strategy, and old power.

Jimmy's smile faltered—but didn't disappear.

"Well," he said thoughtfully, "you're new."

Solmara bowed her head. "I am Solmara. I stand with them now."

Jimmy's gaze sharpened subtly, cosmic awareness flickering behind the mundane façade. But he nodded. "Welcome aboard. No killing my staff unless they deserve it. And no touching my waffles."

"A reasonable rule," she replied.

Bumble zipped forward and hugged Jimmy's leg. Jimmy scooped him up with a fond sigh.

"Yes, Bumble, I missed you too. No, I will not let maintenance wipe your memory. Yes, Jake is your primary human. Yes, you can have syrup later."

Danny blinked. "He… understood all that?"

Shadeclaw whispered, "He's scarier than Solmara."

The Wolf King nodded. "He is older than he appears. I smell… time."

Jimmy's smile didn't falter. "Let's get you all debriefed, fed, healed, and maybe not glowing uncontrollably."

Danny winced as his aura pulsed again. Soldiers backpedaled.

Jimmy put a hand on Danny's arm. "Hey."

Danny looked at him.

"You did good," Jimmy said softly. "Real good."

Danny swallowed. "…Thanks."

The group continued walking, guided toward the medical wing.

And as they moved deeper into Headquarters, into safety, into rest—

Danny felt something settle in him.

Not fear.

Not pain.

Not conflict.

But purpose.

Creation hummed in his chest like a promise.

The storm was done.

But the war had only begun.

And Danny was no longer running from what he was.

He was running toward it.
