Chapter 114: Rumble Beneath the Stone

The last tremor rolled through the subterranean chamber like a receding wave, loosening pebbles from high in the ceiling and sending a thin veil of dust drifting down upon the fighters. This tremor felt different. Softer. Final. The kind that came after a storm, not before one. No mana veins surged or flickered. No floating platforms glitched or rattled. The arena had finally calmed.

Swift let out a long, controlled breath, frost curling from the edges of his lips. His silver-dragon eyes scanned the chamber, confirming what his instincts already told him. "It's over," he said softly.

Jake sagged in relief beside him, bronze scales dimming from anxiety. "So… no more earthquakes? No more magic explosions? No more giant holes opening underneath us and swallowing half the arena?"

Swift nodded. "The last aftershock. Magic Kid's influence is fully gone."

Jake raised both fists in victory. "Yes! I didn't think I had a third screaming fit left in me!"

Jade Killington cracked his chi-charged arms with a pair of loud CH-CHNK shotgun sounds, grinning ear to ear. "Good. Great. Finally, we get back to doing what we're here for—smashing our way to the top."

Shadeclaw snarled approvingly, claws glowing faintly with residual power. "The distractions were irritating. Now it's a real fight."

Across the cavern, Ember Claw smirked as he ignited flames along his forearms. Tundra Lynx exhaled frost calmly, fog swirling around his feet. Mira-the-Silent stood upon a broken stone slab, motionless as a shadow cast by moonlight. Giga-Ronin stared forward like a steel monolith, absorbing the now-steady ambiance as if charging from it. And Sedge Hat, ever cheerful, adjusted the brim of his hat with dangerous glee.

Above them all, Danny stood at the precipice of the upper ledge, silent as a statue, watching with unreadable patience. Wolf King prowled opposite him, golden eyes narrowed, claws scraping lines in the stone. With Magic Kid's influence finally severed, the entire arena felt… normal. For the first time in chapters.

And that meant only one thing.

The fighters turned back to each other.

And the real battle resumed.

A fighter lunged toward Swift with a runed hammer raised high. Swift sidestepped the blow in a blur, frost swirling around his claws. He slashed once—clean, precise—and the hammer froze solid mid-swing. The frost spread down the haft, locking the warrior's hands in ice. Swift kicked the frozen mass, shattering the weapon and knocking the man into the wall. A teleporter beam pulled the fighter out before he hit the ground.

Jake pumped his fists. "Swift! Toss me!"

Swift blinked. "What?"

Jake sprinted forward. "TOSS ME!"

Without hesitation, Swift grabbed him by the collar, pivoted, and hurled him like a crackling lightning missile.

Jake screamed the entire flight. "WHY DO I KEEP ASKING FOR THIIIIS—!!"

He slammed into a fighter's raised shield, electricity detonating outward in bronze arcs. Four fighters were flung backward and teleported out.

Swift nodded. "Good."

Jake groaned from inside the crater he left in the shield. "Okay… maybe I asked for that one."

On the opposite side of the chamber, the Sable Fang Brothers—wolf-like twin warriors with mirrored movements—charged at Jade and Shadeclaw in a blur of claws and teeth.

One brother lunged low at Shadeclaw's legs. Shadeclaw countered with a brutal grapple, twisting and flipping the wolf-fighter across the stone. The fighter recovered instantly, claws raking the ground in a sharp turn.

The other brother descended from above toward Jade.

Jade blocked the slash with his armored forearm, then unleashed a thunderous chi-boom uppercut that launched the attacker several meters straight into a teleporter beam.

Shadeclaw engaged the remaining twin in a whirlwind of slashes and grabs. Jade joined the fray with a chi burst to the wolf warrior's back, and Shadeclaw followed with a savage pounce, slamming him hard enough to trigger the exit flash.

Jade stretched his neck. "Nice warm-up."

Shadeclaw grumbled. "I was enjoying that."

A hail of spiral projectiles streaked across the cavern—an attack from the Tempest Circle. Ember Claw and Tundra Lynx turned as one. Ember Claw melted half the incoming shots with a sweeping arc of flame, while Tundra Lynx erected an ice wall that redirected the survivors. Steam filled the air, masking them.

Moments later, the steam exploded outward as the duo blitzed through the mist, eliminating the entire Tempest squad before they even realized their barrages had failed.

On the far end of the battlefield, three fighters rushed Sedge Hat at once. They figured the stable arena would weaken his trap dependency.

They were wrong.

Sedge slid under the first punch, tapping a tile on the way. The tile popped upward, launching him into a graceful flip. He dropped a concussive bead mid-air. It detonated the moment he landed, blasting all three attackers into teleporter beams.

Sedge dusted his hat, pleased. "Predictability breeds elegance."

Julian shrieked from the commentary booth, "STOP MAKING ART OUT OF MAYHEM!!"

Jade shouted back, "He can't hear you! Even if he could, he wouldn't stop!"

Veltrion the Blade-Savant rushed Mira in a blur of spinning runeblades. His strikes were a cyclone, fast and flawless—a master swordsman by any measure.

Mira stepped aside.

Veltrion's blades cut nothing but air.

Mira tapped his wrist with two fingers.

Veltrion's entire body seized up. His blades clattered to the ground. He teleported away unconscious.

Jade whispered, "Nope. Not fighting her."

Shadeclaw nodded. "Smart."

Giga-Ronin squared off with Hammermaw, a brute wielding a colossal hammer. Hammermaw roared and slammed the head of the hammer directly into Giga-Ronin's chest. The shockwave echoed through the cavern.

Jake screamed. "SWIFT—HE DID IT—HE BROKE THE UNBREAKABLE—"

Swift simply grabbed Jake and stepped aside.

Giga-Ronin stared down at the cracked spot on his armor for one silent second.

Then he punched Hammermaw.

The punch landed with the weight of a mountain. Hammermaw teleported instantly.

Jake whined. "Why is he allowed to exist?!"

Swift nodded. "He is dangerous. Stay away."

The scoreboard above the arena showed the number of remaining fighters ticking downward rapidly. Jimmy cheered into his mic. "WE ARE HEADING STRAIGHT TOWARD TOP 150, FOLKS!"

Julian wailed, "THESE FIGHTERS ARE COMMITTING VIOLENCE WITH NO HESITATION! I'M TERRIFIED AND I'M NOT EVEN IN THERE!"

Jimmy laughed. "Swift and Jake—solid Top 100 material!"

Julian nodded frantically. "Sure—if they don't get pulverized by Jade and Shadeclaw first!"

Jimmy continued. "Ember Claw and Tundra Lynx are still dominating! Giga-Ronin is a nightmare! Mira is a whisper away from assassinating the world! And Sedge—"

Julian screamed, "STOP SAYING HIS NAME!"

The number continued to fall as the arena became a blur of technique, power, and desperation.

Swift froze a trio of fighters with one sweep.

Jake shattered that ice with an electrified punch.

Jade dented the ground with a chi explosion that knocked two out.

Shadeclaw slammed another fighter into a wall.

Ember Claw unleashed a flame vortex.

Tundra Lynx shattered a giant icicle into razor shards.

Mira erased a group so quietly they didn't notice until the teleporter beams stole them.

Sedge chained six traps into a perfect reaction.

Giga-Ronin knocked down four with one charge.

Numbers fell fast.

172

165

160

157

154…

A hush fell.

Only one more elimination until the threshold.

Jade cracked his knuckles.

Shadeclaw snarled softly.

Swift steadied his stance.

Jake swallowed a lump of fear.

Mira exhaled without emotion.

Ember Claw ignited one hand.

Tundra Lynx's claws frosted the stone.

Sedge fiddled with a new bead.

Giga-Ronin simply stood there, a titan among mortals.

Above, Danny lowered his chin a fraction—interested.

Wolf King grinned, teeth flashing like gold in the dim light.

One fighter swung a wild punch at Swift.

Swift stepped aside.

The fighter slammed into a pillar.

A teleport beam whisked him away.

The scoreboard flickered.

150.

The cavern roared with the noise of the crowd above.

The fighters stared at each other, chests heaving, eyes burning.

The next phase of the Battle Royale had begun.

Fighters Remaining: 150 / 500
