Gwen was deep in thought when the rope snapped. She blinked herself back into reality and took a deep breath. She'd deal with this whole Louis situation later. Right now , they needed to get out of this alive.
" Dad , what the hell is he talking about ? Are you two responsible for mom's condition ? " He was surprisingly calm.
Ryan sighed. I had no idea what he was planning , son. I swear." His face softened.
" I was wrong. I'm sorry. "
Alec's face was stern. He fought back the rage and emotion that was tearing through his skin. He shut his eyes and a single teardrop slid down his face.
" Richard , I am going to kill you. " He was sure about that.
" Oh well , " Richard walked to Alec and placed his gun right between his brows. He turned to Ryan.
" I never wanted things to end like this. I wanted so much more in life. Now look , I have to murder my own brother and father. "
" I'm a monster. " He shrugged his shoulders. He put his finger to the trigger.
Gwen's heart was pounding. She wasn't even thinking when she just pounced on Rick and dug her fingers into his eyes. She was quick to grab his gun and shoot him in the leg.
Richard was caught off guard. Before he could turn his gun to Gwen , Alec threw himself towards him. They both tumbled to the floor and Richard accidentally dropped his gun.
Ryan hurried to grab the gun and put it point blank in his face. Richard didn't move.
Gwen ran to Alec and quickly freed him. Her hands were trembling and her eyes were watering. Her face was burning up.
" Are you alright ? " Alec cupped her face and kissed her.
She didn't know what to do. Tears came down her face. She was too angry.
" What the hell was that? Were you just going to accept death like that?"
" Calm down. " Alec smiled. " Calm down."
" Bitch. " She wiped her tears and helped him up.
" Rick is one of my guys. He would have gunned Richard down immediately. " He held Gwen's hand.
" I am so sorry. " Gwen's mouth fell open and a wave of shame covered her. " That won't leave a scar...I hope. "
Rick winced on the ground. " The gunshot wound or my eyes?"
" That's definitely leaving a scar. " Alec laughed. Gwen rolled her eyes.
" Don't get so happy just yet. I'm sure my men are storming here after that gun shot. You're all dead! " Richard barked from the ground.
Just then , multiple gunshots were fired.
" There's a secret passage in study. Alec pull back your favourite book and a passage will open. Leave ! Now!" Ryan stood at the doorway.
" Come with us. " Gwen suggested. She knew that's what Alec would want. His anger was just clouding his mind. " Please. "
" No need to get yourself killed to get any sympathy from me. It won't work." Alec pulled the gun away from him. " You're too weak . You'd just be a hindrance. "
" He doesn't mean that...we'll most of it. " Gwen helped him to a seat. " You should get out first , we'll hold out for a while. "
" You're pregnant. You should put yourself first. " Ryan showed what seemed to be...care. Gwen blinked awkwardly.
" I..."
" Derrick and the rest must be here already. If I'm not wrong , they must have fired those shots right now. " He paused to catch his breath. He was starting to sweat.
" But just incase I'm wrong , we should get to the study. "
Alec didn't say anything.
" Well , we'll take that as a yes. " Gwen pulled him back.
More gun shots followed and Derrick came storming in.
" Alec! I'm glad you're safe. " He nodded at Gwen and Ryan. " We were able to take down most of the men but more keep showing up. We have to leave. "
" You're all going to die here. " Richard burst into laughter.
" I say we throw him out the window. " Derrick said as he kicked him in the stomach.
" To the study. Now!" Ryan led them with slow heavy steps. He was getting weaker.
Gwen came to his side and supported him. He glanced at her for a second and looked away.
" I'm sorry." He whispered.
Gwen didn't say anything back. She just squeezed his arm gently and smiled.
Alec did as he was told and pulled back his favourite childhood book. TheAnimal Farm.
A secret door opened up.
Derrick dragged Richard in ahead of the rest at gun point. Alec and Gwen supported Ryan as they followed.
" The police will get here anytime soon." Derrick subtly announced. " Your sister and nephew have been removed from the property. I can't believe you'd let a child stay in such a place. "
Richard didn't say anything. He was glad Katherine was out of this.
They walked for a while before there was any sign of an exit.
" I think I see something ahead. " Gwen squinted her eyes in the dark. " It's something like a giant rusty door. "
Alec moved forward and kicked at the door. It took five more kicks until it finally budged.
" I think I hear sirens. " Gwen tried to focus her mind on the sound. " The police are here."
Alec kicked the door harder and it screeched open. They had to be cautious. They weren't sure they were in the clear yet.
" I think we're safe. We're far off from the chaos."
" Al...Alec..." Ryan clutched his chest. He was extremely pale and dripping with sweat. Gwen tried to hold him but his weight was too much on her.
Alec rushed to help just in time as Ryan lost consciousness.
" We need to get him to a hospital !" Alec checked his pulse. It was weak.
