The scrying mirror remained a stubborn, featureless grey, a mocking testament to the young man's skill.
"I told you; this kid isn't simple," Kong remarked, his eyes gleaming with the kind of excitement he usually reserved for a high-stakes duel.
"I already know that," the headmaster replied, his face showing a rare expression of deep interest. Gone was the patronising air of an elder watching a student; in its place was the wariness of a grandmaster facing an enigma.
"I bet he is going to do something big, and doesn't want us to see. If it was up to me, I'd go and ask him to tell me everything he wants to hide. We are the masters of this academy; we shouldn't be locked out of our own guest house."
