Chapter 31 - Chap 23-7

Winning the race by a dozen seconds in the lead, Yuki was already off his upper gear and starting to roll a smoke.

"That thing is cheating!!" Mark called upon Yuki, pointing out, "that's not even a bike anymore! I hit almost 300 k/h and you still leave us in the dust!?"

Ji Long, in third place, stopped his car on the side. Exiting, he was laughing loudly despite losing, going to his truck and retrieving a small freezer packed with beer.

"That's my friend, when a mad scientist looks at a high-end engine and re-makes it scientifically?" Ji Long said, putting an arm around Mark's shoulder. "If I am not wrong, the last sprint he somehow managed to break the sound barrier."

"Sound barrier? Wasn't that only after Mach 1?" Mark's eyes widened, and he looked back at Yuki. "How did you not end up in the skies? Wait, why didn't I hear the boom of the barrier breaking?"

"Well, in the last part, I tried a new thing I added to the bike," Yuki added, pointing at the wheels. "Try to pick them up."

Mark humored him, and was shocked he couldn't, no matter how he tried. He didn't even succeed in moving the wheel.

"I see, magnetism," Ji Long commented. "As long as the wheels are stuck to the land, you won't end up flying up. But what about the boom?"

"Because I didn't break the sound barrier, but cut through it," Yuki smirked. "The barrier breaking is relative to the speeding mass. The wider the contact surface, the harder it is to break."

"But for a bike, it's more like swinging through the barrier," Mark finished, understanding. "That's cool! And who taught you…"

The three men sat on the side of their rides, casually discussing things about cars and speed, with drinks and smokes.

Mark and Ji Long's casual setup and Yuki's bike gear, they created a unique Saturday 'bros' night.

They attracted most of the people stealing glances from time to time.

But soon the 'bros' time stopped. Their attention was caught by a loud engine voice. Not as loud as their own, but it was clear to professionals they were racing cars.

"Aren't those…" Mark remembered the cars from the race and pointed it out. Soon, the cars stopped on the lot beside them: a black Dodge, a Nissan, and a green one (Fast and Furious cars).

From the black car, Toretto (Dominic), the Nissan, the brain (O'Conner), and Letty emerged.

Looking up from his laid-back position on top of the bike, he almost dropped down, recognizing the people getting closer.

'Now this is interesting, the Toretto family.' Regaining his composure, he smirked and got his excitement in check.

"Crazy ride you got there. What top speed can it get?" Toretto looked at Mark's ride and asked, thinking he was the leader.

Mark raised an eyebrow, looking at Yuki, while Ji Long smirked, looking at him too. The latter just shrugged his shoulder.

"As much as you can handle. I can push her to 300," Mark answered, getting Yuki's meaning, looking past Toretto to his Dodge. "That Dodge really packs a punch under the hood, just from the voice."

The reaction didn't get past the group's observation. Looking at Yuki, puffing smoke and not minding them, Toretto frowned, getting the gist of it. And Letty somehow smirked at the fact that Yuki didn't really mind Toretto for the first time.

"Yep, best of our craft, but I have a question," the mad scientist of Toretto's group got closer, not really minding the group's 'don't bother us' vibe. He looked straight at Yuki's direction. "Where did you get that stuff? Just the smell of it has me salivating, man."

Yuki froze for a second, looking at the excited face of him. He, along with his team, exploded in laughter.

"That's your kind alright, Yuki," Mark laughed, hitting his thigh. "He just saw a car and bike pass him by leaving them to eat dust, and his main question is what you're smoking?"

"Hey, a man has to know his property," the mad scientist retorted, causing Yuki and the others to burst into laughter (under the influence).

"Man, this one is crazier than you," Ji Long said, looking at Yuki for a command.

Despite all the easygoing and good relations they had, some principles wouldn't change: they wouldn't make a move or interaction without him leading.

Meaning he had to define their next action.

"Well, let's start it from the top. My name is Yuki," with a two-finger salute. "The guy in red is Mark, and the black car is Ji Long."

"If I am not wrong, you're the Torettos, the top street racers around here." Getting a Corona beer, he stretched his hand to hand it to Toretto. "This is your poison, I presume."

Toretto was surprised at how accurately he knew him, but nevertheless accepted the beer. "If you know me, you must know the others."

Pointing his beer at his group after taking a sip, "Letty the crazy rider, the mad scientist of the group, and finally my sister Mia."

"I assume you're new to them?" Yuki shook his head, passing the joint to Mark, who shied away, saying, "No thanks, if you had the normal stuff, then please."

Looking at him for a second, Yuki remembered what he was smoking before saying, 'Right,' and retrieving something from his bike, throwing it to Mark.

That surprised the whole group, and let the mad scientist's eyes get excited. Yuki sighed and threw another item in his direction.

"Are you a dealer or something?" Letty smirked at what happened, as it was eerily similar to what she described.

"Nah, they just can't handle my dose," he smirked and pointed at Mark. "Last time he tried, he couldn't even stand straight."

"Hey, that was Alex, not me!" Mark commented.

"Well, you didn't, but you run now from it?" Yuki said before getting back at Toretto.

"By the way, is the Desert War still running?" Yuki asked him, surprising Toretto, who nodded and asked how he knew about it.

"Well, a friend lost his treasure car to you and never stopped talking about it." Yuki clarified and stood up. "It was great to meet you, but we have to go."

"Here," Yuki took a card and handed it to Toretto. "If you need anything, give me a call. I will start an engine store and workshop soon."

"Oh, and is that only for normal cars, or our type?" Letty asked, with genuine interest in Yuki.

Yuki smirked at her before starting his bike and revving the engine, as if asking for her opinion.

"OK, got it," raising her hand playfully, putting her hand down as Mark and Ji Long started their cars.

"I will be in touch," flashing him the card she somehow took from Toretto, and waving it.

Finding it odd, but he nodded and waved before accelerating, leaving the station with Mark and Ji Long on his tail.

"That was interesting," Toretto said, looking at Letty. She nodded, her eyes still on the road they took.

"That's new." Toretto looked at Letty and smirked. Raising her along with Mia, this was probably the first time she showed interest in a man.

"What... it's not that?" Letty denied. "It's not every day you find a man into bikes to the point of customizing them."

Letty, despite her car family background, was more into bikes. Sadly, with no one sharing the passion, she tended to work more with cars, as was the norm in the family. It was more a way to blend in.

Letty lost her family in an accident, and with the close ties they had with Dominic's father, he took her in. Sadly, not two years later, he died, leaving the crew for his son.

And thanks to that, Letty tended to act more boyish as a way to show her independence. Throughout her 20 years of life, she never showed interest in men, and more into cars, engines, bikes, and races, as a way to help the family.

And now, for the first time, they saw her show interest. This made Mia and Dominic happy, at least.
