"What?" Hearing the words whispered in his ear, Charles almost thought he'd misheard. He lowered the bottle he had just raised to his lips.
Having confessed what was in her heart, Margaret no longer hesitated. She stepped forward, her eyes staring straight into Charles's. "Charles, you should know how I feel. I love you, and I want you to be my husband."
Hearing this, Charles let out a quiet laugh. "You're being very direct this time."
"Some opportunities are too precious; you must seize the moment." The girlish shyness was gone from Margaret's eyes, replaced by a burning hunger for her goal.
She moved closer and stretched out her arms to embrace Charles. But just as her pale, clean fingers were about to touch his body, Margaret felt something unseen bind her in place.
"Better not. It might have been fine before, but not anymore." Charles used his transparent tentacles to wrap around Margaret, pushing her back to the cabin door.
