Amidst the applause that crashed like ocean waves, Charles and his companions seemed completely out of place. The one-eyed Captain turned to look at the young female crew member beside him. "Can you tell me, was this intentionally staged, or did the lead actress just improvise after messing up?"
Before the shocked Grace could respond, a plump woman in a long dress and spiderweb gloves answered his question. She held a fan over her mouth, curiosity lighting her eyes as she looked Charles up and down in his Captain's Uniform. "This is what makes this Opera House so amazing! No one really knows what's real—the more you want to know, the less they'll tell you."
Charles thought for a moment and nodded, rising from his seat. "Let's go. I've seen enough; it's time to head back."
"Don't rush off, that was just the first story! The later acts are sure to be even more exciting." No sooner had she finished speaking, the curtain was drawn open again.
