With grim expressions, Charles and Tuba arrived at the center of Well City. Every leap the Paper Rabbit made sent it soaring a considerable distance through the air.
He looked down at the strange city below. The buildings were bizarre; most weren't upright but leaned in every direction, as if they were exhausted from standing and wanted to lie down at any moment.
It seemed some creatures lived in Well City, crawling back and forth like ants. The distance was too great for Charles to tell what they were, but they certainly weren't human.
"Those are 'them.' They're the original inhabitants of the great tree, surviving by absorbing what little divine energy emanates from the God, which is why they settled here," Tuba explained.
Charles withdrew his gaze and looked deeper into the well. There was only chaos—no sign of the Central Computer at all. "How much longer? We've been in here for half an hour already."
