Anna, lying on the white sofa, pinched the palm-sized slip of paper between her fingers. The paper, which should have been damp, dried instantly with a twist of her hand. The once-smudged markings on it quickly sharpened into clarity.
"Mm. This side has my portrait, and the other has a message Dad left. He secretly shoved it inside a fish and scared it into fleeing the Foundation's territory."
"The Foundation's domain is weird. It's like it can block my senses. Otherwise, I should have sensed it the moment Dad drew this picture."
Anna squinted slightly, carefully examining the note in her hand. The writing was minuscule, but through this scrap, Charles had managed to detail everything he had gone through: the Foundation's relationship with the Heike Clan, the No. 3 Doomsday Plan, and his current predicament.
