It was unclear what the Foundation had used, but the sun formed by Lai Jie soon fell from the sky. As the point of light gradually vanished, the receded seawater surged back in. Darkness reclaimed its hold, and nothing had changed.
Tears slowly slid from Lily's eyes down her furry face. She was crying. Lily tried to wipe the tears away with her small paws, but they only flowed faster.
"Mr. Charles, why am I crying? I don't feel sad at all," Lily said, pouting.
With a complex expression, Charles gently stroked Lily's fur. Lai Jie was dead. By rights, the death of a monstrous villain who slaughtered 80% of the Abyss-Sea's population ought to have been a cause for celebration. Yet Charles couldn't feel happy at all, only a faint regret. They had been enemies and allies. Faced with Lai Jie's death, his emotions were deeply conflicted, especially now that he had sacrificed himself to save others.
"Shanshan, let's go. We're going home." With a flash of white light, everyone vanished.
