When Charles arrived at the battlefield at 1189-1, where he had fought earlier, the scene before him was a complete mess. The stench of blood, gunpowder, and burnt flesh mixed into a nauseating odor that filled the air.
The once-empty tunnel had mostly collapsed. The survivors huddled on the other side, lying among the dead—an utterly miserable sight.
While Charles was inside the Spider's body, the others outside had paid a painful price to restrain the colossal monster. Now, less than half of them remained alive, and the Narwhal's crew had once again dwindled to the single digits.
The less severely wounded crew members, under the guidance of the ship doctors, helped those with serious injuries. They simply had no time to deal with the dead.
When the Narwhal's crew saw that Charles had actually returned, they were all overcome with emotion.
Deep, covered in bruises, threw himself at Charles, tears streaming uncontrollably down his face. He had thought his Captain was truly dead.
