After a few agonizing minutes, the floor the woman had chosen arrived. When the elevator doors opened, it was pitch black outside.
Under everyone's watchful eyes, the woman slowly walked out, and the elevator doors slid gently shut behind her.
As soon as she was gone, everyone let out a huge, collective sigh of relief. Whatever she was, the ordeal was finally over.
After a few seconds, Audric turned to Charles to share his discovery. "Captain, that woman had no blood on her. There wasn't even the faintest smell of it."
Charles glanced at him, wiping a smear of blood from his face. "Do those animal-headed things upstairs have blood?"
"Yes. Even though their heads are those of animals, they all have blood. Human blood."
Charles put his bloody finger in his mouth and sucked gently. The rich, metallic tang instantly filled his senses. It was definitely human blood.
